A truly talented actor with great range. He was captivating in pretty much every role he was in, regardless of the overall quality of the film. I particularly enjoyed his performances as the Sheriff of Nottingham (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), Severus Snape (Harry Potter) and Dr. Lazarus (Galaxy Quest). What a loss.
I'm privileged to say I have worked with him and people have always said he is a good man as well as a fantastic actor.
Agree but would have to add Hans Gruber (Die Hard) to that list. Glad to hear those who were lucky enough to meet him confirm that the impression he gave, of being a thoroughly decent man, was a true one. RIP.
As a kid Robin Hood was my favourite movie. At one point I could probably say the whole script off by heart. Very sad to hear he passed away. 2016 has started off like a game of thrones book.
