Lionel has signed a permanent deal with us. 2½ years strikes me as a shortish deal for a talented young player - but fair enough - we don't know if he's good enough. Also - the timing of this announcement is odd. Why announce it today - they must have know from the start of the window.
C+P From Club Site: - AINSWORTH SIGNS Sat 05 Jan 2008 LIONEL Ainsworth has today (Saturday) completed his permanent move to Vicarage Road, signing a two-and-a-half year contract after joining the Hornets on loan in late November. The 20-year-old moved to Watford after attracting the attention of boss Aidy Boothroyd with a number of influential displays for League Two side Hereford United. He starred for the Bulls alongside loan Hornets Theo Robinson and Toumani Diagouraga. Ainsworth impressed throughout for Hereford and netted eight times, scoring two hat-tricks and the solitary goal that knocked Leeds United out of the FA Cup. That goal-scoring appearance rules him out of Watford's third round tie with Crystal Palace, as he is cup tied. Ainsworth The former Derby trainee made his debut for the Golden Boys against Barnsley at Oakwell and started for the 'Orns against Plymouth at Vicarage Road before Christmas. Ainsworth has also represented England at Under-17 and Under-19 level, and is well known for his lightening-quick pace on the wing.
Looked sharp when he played. Better than Waankanuff IMO. But bet he becomes Maccas best mate in the reserves.
i think ainsworth looked lively and could become a very good player in the futre imo although he might need a bit of work on his crossing
:]] I bet that is the end for Macca - cheerio, cheerio, cheerio. Serves Macca right for showing Jordan how to do a step over.
I can't wait to see Ainsworth start again. Hopefully today. I thought he was superb. Problem is Smudger looked poor on the left wing
Aidy seems to think he's a massive prospect... was banging on about what a lovely lad he is... Could he be another Ashley Young? What concerns me a little is why did Derby let him go?
I think Ainsworth leaving Derby was sort of mutual as he wanted more chances of playing and was not going to get that in the premier league. I have heard he has cost us 425k, which seems a little high if so, as he only had a year contract at Hereford.
reminds me of booza and ash what was the fee?? probably as most transfers nowadays undisclosed:dismay:
I heard one rumours which was around 400k or so. A lot of money for a league 2 player but if he is as talented as reports suggest, he will turn out to be a bargain.
Are you serious for that parks player.... Deport him back to Czech as we could have him under the trades description act as he claims he plays football.. I have seen players try harder at Non League Tivvy level... and thats even including Steve Flack....
Agree that Ainsworth looked good against plymouth before Aidy made another of his monumental substitutions...He's playing well, better take him off before he shows the rest up! I believe that decision probably cost us the points....not all the Bang bang stuff as the club have mentioned...great prospect, and as mentioned Aidy has said some good things..(I will say some Cherrys m8's of mine said he was lazy when on loan to them last season) ps..lol..at send priskin back to Czech'..lmfao....Hungarian International....clue..lol
No a £200,000 `Bargain` According to Goal: c/p AINSWORTH IN WATFORD DEAL 08:00 - 07 January 2008 Watford have completed the signing of winger Lionel Ainsworth from Hereford United for a fee of about £200,000, with extra payments dependent on appearances and performances. Ainsworth, who has represented England at Under-19 level, has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Championship club. Ainsworth scored eight goals for the Bulls before joining Watford on loan in November - and grabbed Hereford's winner against Leeds United in the FA Cup.
To be honest - at 200k he seems a bargain. The add-ons only come into effect if he is a success in which case - he'd still be a bargain.
As long as the fee is under 500k, i'm happy. Aidy's signings have been very hit an miss (more miss that hit if you ask me), but from what I have seen, he has flair/agility and a lot of talent, so hopefully the 200k or 400k price will prove a bargain. Then again, Hoskins etc. have hardly proved they are worth a penny, let alone the price we paid for them.
