    The Watford family

    Hi everyone,

Right, here we go. I don’t imagine that any of you would expect me to speak about anything other than Al Bangura today.

Suffice to say that all of the players mean a lot to me, and to you, but we all know that in Al’s case he means a whole lot more to everyone.

I don’t need to tell and retell his story to you all; you know what he’s been through and what he’s facing by now. But, what I do want to talk about is the Watford family. That’s me, you, the players, the staff, the past and the present people, and most importantly Al and his young family.

We all talk about the ‘family club’ and we all know about the legacy left to us, well if we really are a family club now is the time to show it.

In fact, now is the time for the whole of Watford, the whole of our community, to fight for one common cause. Time to put any issues aside and fight for what is right and just as we see it.

Al will be at Vicarage Road on Saturday and I want us all to really show him, and our Government, just what this young man means to this community. If we make enough noise they will have to listen.

I don’t think that there is much more to say on the subject other than that, but remember that Saturday is Family Day and in a weird sort of way, we couldn’t have timed it any better. Al is part of our family and let’s show him so.

You can email our MP Claire Ward directly and sign her petition, so please register your support via her parliamentary email: wardc@parliament.uk

    We are one team.

    Come on!

    Hi everyone,

I must start today’s email with a huge thank you on behalf of myself, Al Bangura and everyone at the club for the support that you showed towards him last Saturday.

The coverage that his case received over the weekend was surely due to the news channels and the powers that be realising just how much we all want him to stay. There is nothing quite like strength in numbers and you showed just how strong we are when we all unite.

Unfortunately the result was the sour note of the day. Late goals always hurt more and whoever said football was a funny old game was definitely wrong, because I certainly wasn’t laughing.

We know all too well by now that teams don’t want to play football against us, they want to stifle us and hit us on the break. But no matter how our opponents play, there were still three points to be had and on this occasion we missed out on the opportunity to win them and that makes me annoyed.

Of course our failure to pick up the points saw us knocked off of our perch. Does that bother me? Only a little, we all have our pride and who doesn’t want to be top of the table? The fact of the matter is, it’s not May yet. With 24 games left to go and 72 points left to play for we’re still not even half way through the season yet.

We have to start making Vicarage Road a fortress – that’s where we need to start killing games off. So we’ll do that. Let other teams have the glare of the spotlight while we tend to our own needs.

We've got a great opportunity in the next few matches to win and to get some points on the board. I'm sure there will be some more twists and turns before the end of the season.

Lastly, I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas. I am all too aware that the festive period sees the football fixtures mounting up, but there is nothing I would like more than to see a full house here on Boxing Day.

Your support over the year has been exceptional. After the heartache of relegation you bounced back with us ready to take the Championship by storm and for that I thank you sincerely. Through everything we have had thrown at us this year, I believe we have grown. Like I said before, strength comes through unity.

So enjoy your time off work, spend it wisely relaxing and resting with family and friends. Then come and see us again and be ready to start all over again, because these games are going to come thick and fast and we need your support now just as much as ever.

    Come on! :xmas-smiley-022:

Uses the Al Bangura situation to plaster over the fact that Saturdays performance was stomach churningly, poor.

No, he doesn't. But what is he to say ? "We were crap." Blindingly obvious. "We need 11 new players in the transfer window." Not true, although I suspect that some of the 'fans' think it is.

As GT said in the famous England documentary, the manager can do anything they want in the way of training and preparation, but it's 11 against 11 on the day and the manager can't do much about how his 11 plays once the game starts. Sure, Aidy could make earlier substitutions, but he presumably puts out the best team at the start of the game and presumably is hoping that his number 1 and 2 strikers will do better than his number 3 striker will.

Other than that, Managers are like Goalies... most of the comments they get are when they get it wrong.

Aidy wants us to win at least as much as any of us do... heck, his job is on the line. It's his livelihood. He basically said Thanks for the support you gave Al, I'm sorry that we (the team and I) let you down. I can't argue with that and certainly don't see any 'plastering'.

Don't they? I'd say the reason teams are beating us now at home is because they've realised if they can play football in midfield we can't handle it, which started with West Brom giving us a footballing lesson.

Actually teams don't 'play football' against us.

Aside from West Brom, there has not been one single team at the Vic who I would say have 'played football' to win the game.

It is purely that they have ALL the possession in the middle due to our unbelievable ability to actually gain possession or challenge until they are outside the penalty box. They do nothing good with it, and most of the time they have no end product, which is why we have yet to be hammered at home.

It is when teams come who do actually have an end product ala Albion that we suffer. Bristol City, Barnsley, Burnley etc - none of these teams actually outplayed us in the middle, we simply didn't bother getting the ball as usual.

It is shocking how much we rely on our defence.
