    It's time to focus

    Hi everyone,
It’s good to be able to start thinking about a game again this weekend, as we look ahead to Southampton at home this Sunday.
There’s a nice feel around the place at the moment following on from the Ipswich win and Nathan’s signing and I’m keen for us to keep that momentum going against the Saints. Of course it’ll be a difficult fixture but aren’t they all?
Kick-off on Sunday will spark a manic run of six fixtures in just three weeks, meaning there’ll be little time for rest and certainly little time for error in this period.
This is also the period in which the season starts to take some shape and get serious. For us I hope it’ll see start to see us refine what we are currently doing and pull together all of the elements that we have been working on in the early weeks of the season.
With so many games coming up it will also be the time when the whole squad has to focus because you can never second guess when an injury or suspension will come our way. It’s really important that those players who may not have featured as much as they like make sure they are in peak physical and mental condition.
You will have noticed last week that our Academy staff were at the forefront of an English first, when they opened the doors to the Harefield Academy, which we hope will be the centre that develops our young talent and takes our players to the next level of potential development.
The Academy will see the boys offered greater contact time with their coaches and will also mean that they remain in one location for their important academic work. It’s so important for the future of this club that we continue to push the boundaries in this area, and I’d like to pass on my thanks to those who have put in so much hard work, time and effort to make this happen.
I’d also like to say well done to Sian Williams and the Watford Ladies team who, having been promoted to the Womens’ Premier League, have gone on to top the table. I know it’s early but I think it’s a tremendous achievement and one I’d like to congratulate them on.
Finally, I’d like to welcome John Stephenson to Watford, who joins as our new Head of Player Recruitment. John has come back into football after a spell in the business world, but joins us with considerable experience at some massive clubs such as Celtic.
John will compliment the existing scouting staff here at the club and will really help us to exploit the marketplace better when transfer windows come along in particular. I know the next one isn’t until January but make no mistake about it, the work for it starts here.
    Come On!
