    Hi everyone,

Waking up this morning it’s hard to know whether to be more or less disappointed with last night’s result, given that we played better than we did on Saturday, but still got nothing from the game.

A few weeks ago I spoke about the importance of performance against result and I hope that, in some way, the efforts in last night’s game won’t have gone unnoticed. Unlike Saturday we had a fire in our bellies and we need to find more of that this weekend, that’s for sure.

The last two results have put a different complexion on the start to the season than when I sat writing these notes last week, but it’s nothing a result this weekend wouldn’t put right again.

We’re already seeing the topsy-turvy nature of this division with all kinds of strange results and scorelines, although both Wolves and Birmingham have made a charge to the top pretty much unhindered.

Reading will be a really tough game, no doubt, but with a fighting fit XI and a really good attitude we’ll still beat anybody in this league, including those at the top.

Talking of being fighting fit, one of my first tasks this morning was to check out the medical room and liaise with our excellent Head of Medical, Andy Rolls. He hasn’t had time to build an extension yet, but we’ve got the bricks on order!

Both Tamas and Lloyd limped off last night with hamstring strains, which added to the injuries to Grzegorz and Mat Sadler makes for a fairly busy time for Andy and his team – and that’s not to mention two or three of the younger boys with knocks.

I’ve every confidence that the team behind the team will get the lads fitter, sooner rather than later, but as we’ve seen with the likes of Damien Francis and Gareth Williams, sometimes time is the only healer.

In Lloyd and Tamas’ case that’ll mean a month apiece which is something we can do without, but that’s the nature of football and we live with it.

The injuries to the squad mean we’ve got some tough times ahead in the short-term but I’ve had a chat with the Chairman and we’ll see what we can do to ease the situation.

Whether we can do something for Saturday I don’t know but whoever takes to the pitch, they have to know that they have a chance and they need to take it.

Thanks for your support again last night, it was excellent as ever and I’ll look forward to more of the same this weekend if you can make it.

    Come on!

I'm resting happily in the knowledge that I'll be getting paid for a days work instead of watching us get absolutely tonked.
