Just said good enough result, both teams could have won it and both rode their luck a bit. Which is all true. Nothing on signings, but after that defensive display I would imagine that unless Danny is coming home then we may see a new FB and CB...
Good performance seen as injuries had left as with a small team against giants. Thought Kabba worked hard and glad Ellington notched another goal. Admitted that things got a bit hairy at the end but that they were piling forward. Interestingly he didn't know the Nigeria result and said he supposed it was 'good for Dan', though he can't wait to have him back. Signings wise he said he was looking at both permanent and loan deals.
I would imagine that he came out with another pack of lies, including a line about how well we played, how we can draw some positives, and how we are good enough when we clearly are not.
Pack of lies? You've never read comments from other managers, have you? Aidy says nothing different to anyone else in the game.
Lets see if the people WHO went to the game actually say that. If they say it was crap,no positive then fine... Maybe you expected to go up to Sheffield and win with ease...I didn't with the team we had so maybe that is where people like us differ. You have high expectations after such a strong start when in reality at home we were not play well even then whereas my season prediction was play-offs at best and so far with the unpredictable nature of the league that could well be right.
Basically, yes. They all come out with the usual tosh - so to make that a basis for hating Aidy means you'd have to hate his successor as well. Wenger never sees anything...do you believe that because he's a massive success?
I hate AB anyway, and his lies and ignorance add to that. after some of the more recent games at home, he should have been apologising for the performance instead of getting defensive, and claiming that there are poitives to be had. If he had been honest with us, the fans, I would have been far more understanding, but the lies regarding King, and the belief that wholesale change is not needed for the team, are a couple of large porkies too far.
I don't hate Aidy but his speel is more embarrassing and ridiculous than most. Yes, Arsene Wenger comes out with some nonsense as do a lot of managers but they rarely insult our intelligence as often as Aidy. He's either a B.S.er or Walter Mitty like, depending on whether he believes his own utterings. I'd suggest the latter. Comical Aidy they christened him when he made those outlandish claims of finishing in the top 10 of the Prem. I tend to laugh when I hear his comments after a game now. I don't want him to get the sack and like everyone on here, want him to turn things round but I wish he would stop with the American style believe in yourself rubbish. At the moment, we need genuinely talented players more than players who genuinely believe in their talent.
C+P FROM OFFICIAL SITE BOOTHROYD ON A BIG POINT Tue 29 Jan 2008 WATFORD'S Aidy Boothroyd declared himself happy with perhaps the most hard earned point of the season, as his new look side went within a whisker of taking their tenth away win of the season at Bramall Lane this evening (Tuesday). After Nathan Ellington swept the visiting team into the lead, there only looked to be one outcome, however a stern talking to at half-time turned Sheffield United into an altogether different prospect in the second half. Article continues Advertisement David Carney's close range equaliser snatched a share of the points, but Boothroyd wasn't downcast at seeing his side secure their 30th point of the season on the road. "The team that was put out today was very, very energetic and worked exceptionally hard," said the Yorkshireman on his return to his home county. "It was chalk and cheese from Saturday's performance and their work ethic was very good. "It was a small team and the only threat they [Sheffield United] had was set plays and I was worried about it from the start. Unfortunately, they scored off a long throw, but I have to say it was a good point, a hard fought point and I thought some of the performances were great. "Nathan Ellington scored again, Steve Kabba did very, very well. He looked a different player, ran his heart out, put them under pressure and could have had a couple of goals himself. I also thought Aidy Mariappa was superb coming in to the team. "We've got two 'number two' centre halves if you like - by that I mean guys that like to sweep up, we didn't have a dominant one in there. "Nathan will score from anywhere and he's shown a little frustration at the end when he's gone for the 'Ronnie Radford' from daft range. I've talked before about his talent and he's capable of getting goals from anywhere. "It worked well tonight with Steve Kabba stretching them and Nathan picking up the little space in between the defensive four and the midfield four, where he got on the ball and created a bit of havoc." United, and manager Bryan Robson came under huge pressure during the match, and Boothroyd had a tinge of empathy for his opposite number. "They reminded me of us at home a little, and there's an expectation for Sheffield to do well. "That said, it was a well gained point for us in the end and we did ride our luck, but so did Sheffield. All-in-all a draw's a fair result and it's one of those that actually gets us closer to the top." With just two days to go in the January transfer window, Boothroyd also alluded to the hope that he may yet strengthen his squad further, not least as Dan Shittu will remain at the African Cup of Nations following Nigeria's 2-0 win earlier today. "We'll have to wait for Danny to come back, which is good for him of course. I thought that Aidy in particular was a game guy tonight and his spring is great, he doesn't mind getting hurt, which you need. "Damien Francis unfortunately has had his knee swell up and after his long term lay-off that's a concern for me, and Darius Henderson has had a niggle for a long time. He's a big player for us. "I think we still need a little depth and I do hope that something might happen before Thursday. It's going to be a long haul and I'd rather have too many than too little. The bit in red pleases me!!! Gardener and Whelan please Aidy :notworthy:
Blimey, for once myself and Aidy have seen the same thing out on the pitch tonight! I agree with every word he said in that article...I think saying 'Mariappa was superb' was a bit kind, he was ok, I agree he puts his foot in and doesn't cower out of headers etc, but his positional sense and distribution is really poor! Glad to hear he's still in the market for a player or two. Gardener and Whelan would indeed be a good end to the month!
Selfbelief and selfconfidence is key to winning promotion. Aidy's approach may be a little too much but he needs to instill belief into a team that's just lost it's star player. And come to think of it - a battling performance like the one yesterday will go a long way towards rebuilding a winning team. Wolves beware!
Anthony Gardner is still out injured since doing his ankle ligaments in October. I hope this isn't the Ace that Betty has up his sleeve.
Faxy, if you were at the game I would accept your post as allowable to having a view and freedom of speech on a message board. It would seem from your post ( and i apologise if i am wrong) that you were not at the game. We did indeed play well as we have done in the main away from home and we battled and there was a lot of improvement in various areas of our play. Your death wish on wfc is not particulalry helpful to the wfc cause, the cause which you are supposedly trying to make the club better, more successful, self sufficient and financially sustainable. I do not see how your cause is actually working and improving the club when completely based on unfounded comments from last nights game. U ornssssssssssssss
I did not go your are right, mainly beacuse I am sick of seeing us play crap at home and away, and felt particularly disgusted by the Wolves performance on Saturday. My original comments were based on three things 1) The fact that AB almost always come out with a pack of lies. I think he has now forgotten how to tell the truth 2)From the opions of those who I know were at the game 3)the opion given by Sky Sports - an independent observer who said that Sheffield were worth the win, and that we clung on for dear life to earn a point.
- that is hear say - Chris Kamara said we would romp the league when we were 8 points clear - we've been total shyte since he siad that - ITS HIS UCKING FAULT - so sky to me are canuting canuts and not worth a tv licence to watch. Truely Faxy - we were decent last night -we did not hold on for dear life and had opportunities to win it even after they equalised, which was a damn scappy goal to give away. Bringing on bang bang was imo correct and it was a game we earned our point.
Watford Leisure Plc (FC) will go up as Champions - and the downside is the Mark Ashton era will truly begin, can't wait .........
I wonder if I will be buying overpriced development plots of him in a few years time like I'm doing with Petchey now?
Ok, maybe last nights was a 'good' performance, I was not there so am unable to make up my own mind as it were, but I just feel that after such a bad run of home results, our only consolation is our away form, which has taken a nosedive in recent games. This does not leave alot for us to go at. So whilst you may be pleased, with last night, I still think that a defeat at the weekend will see us begin a freefall out of the play off zone, and out of the promotion picture altogether.
Petchey's mob own the (shutdown) Devonshire boozer in Bushey Heath, I am told ..... love to see anyone 'develop' that site, it's as big as a postage stamp!
Agree Faxy - a defeat at home on saturday will be a major disaster now, at this stage. It is at this stage where we MUST kick on - that means winning at home and also playing a style that deseves us to win. It may not even be pretty football, but if like last night 100% commitment that is moving forward again. I'm, quite relishing this last few months now - WE are at WAR with the Fizzy pops - The Watford Spartans ununited!
Since our 3-0 win away at Southampton we have only lost at Preston and drew at Sheffield Utd. I would hardly call something a nosedive based on just two games, of which one was a decent performance.
Just shows how little you know about football management, if all managers were brutally honest about each and every performance the effect on team moral could be devastating. Yes Aidy's spin does wear a bit thin now and again but he is also in the business of motivating his players >>> he is not naive enough to think that he can pull the wool over the eyes of fans who actually watched the game.
