c/p fischal site "I thought he was excellent, he is his own man, an individual and he has no fear whatsoever. Today he went out on that pitch and didn't look out of his depth, he reveled in it and I thought he put in an excellent performance. The more experience he gets the better he will be, he's got his place at the moment and he's got to keep hold of it." Not the same man I saw then.
Give the kid a break FFS! :dismay: From what I hear (from people that understand the game before you ask), he played well, kept the ball well, found some nice positions and made some good tackles! It was his first ever start :dismay:
When given plenty of time (and I mean plenty) he was able to pick a pass, and keep posession well. Aside from that he looked scared and against better opposition could have been a reason for us losing points. That said, the fact he can pass hopefully means that after the initial shock of mixing it with the big boys, he can now use the next two games to improve.
I thought for the first half an hour he looked like a rabbit inthe headlights, didn't want the ball and more affraid of making mistakes than getting something right. As the game went on he became more assured, OK not the best performance but he did OK, a good expiriance for him and one for the future
wasnt there yesterday but from what ive heard people need to lay off him it was his debut and it sounds like he played quite well hes young and thats was his first appearance so give him some time
I'M NOT HAVING A GO AT HIM. JESUS! Tetchy. What Boothroyd said is just wrong that's all. Considering his age, it was his debut and he played a full 90 mins he did really well, just nowhere near good enough AT THE MOMENT for our team. From that article, it sounds to be like he will play him until Williamson is fit again, which worries me as if he struggles then it will kill his confidence and could cost us points.
wasnt having a go at you in particular there have been alot of people slating o'toole's performance yesterday jut saying we should give the lad a chance
Nobody is writing off his career. I think just about everyone who saw him and who was critical, has tempered their comments with the caveat that there is obvious potential there, but he did not look ready yesterday. His fine shot from the edge of the box, disallowed goal and near miss show that he will be likely to hit the onion sack a few times, but he needs to get stuck in more. He is a big lad, but wafted about a bit too much yesterday.
Did we see the same game? I thought he was excellent, started well and was very aware of what was going on around him. Several times he caught out other players by releasing the ball immediately, notibly Smith, who I presume aren't ready for quick, intelligenty played balls yet. He also appears to have a good engine as he never stopped running and didn't appear to tail off as Johnson tends to towards the end of the game.
I thought he was very good. He's a young player, given his debut in a team that is expected to win the game but ahs to do a professional job and i think he coped with the situation very well. Was unlucky not to score in the second half.
Well from what i've seen of him at Cardiff and Scunthorpe you can see he likes to get stuck in! I wasn't there yesterday so can't really say what his performance was like but I think a lot of you need to remember he was very nervous...probably about playing alongside a donkey At Scunthorpe he got on the ball, made some cute passes, got into the opposition's box and made some good tackles! I can't see how some people think he absolutley stunk yesterday and why some people thought he was brilliant!? Weird!
I don't think there are too many that thought he stunk... I think most, like me, think he did really well CONSIDERING his age, inexperience, nerves etc. It doesn't mean he wasn't out of his depth though. Its all about potential with the young'uns, and he has stacks of it.
for his first full game i thought he did extreamly well. as other have said at times seem to release the ball sooner than most when he saw an opening others didnt. i saw him at scun and yesterday and how people can say he needs to improve when they didnt see him i dont know. or do you want to believe what you hear when it suits you
he looked tenacious and thats something we need in midfield! I thought he played well, wasnt looking for the ball to much initially but got into the game and was unlicky not to score at least two goals! When was the last time we had a midfielder who got into goalscoring positions three times in one game? I cant remember it! Good game for the little tinker!
He's already made approximately 1 gajillion more useful contributions than DB. Great shot that he nearly scored from - very little backlift. Style wise looks like a member of the 1969/70's team.
In the news of thw world aidy said he looked like the warm-up act for an indie band! I think he'd more likely steal the cymbal stands and sell them for scrap!
