From Journalism Today By: Clare Fisher The Watford Observer has appointed Frank Smith as Watford FC correspondent. Smith joins from another Newsquest regional title, the Bucks Free Press, where he was a news reporter. His new role will involve covering match reports and the business side of the local football team, Watford FC. "The best advice I could give to someone who wants to become a sports reporter is this: if you cannot get a job covering sports, then do a lot of work experience. At the end of the day you get to do something for free which you would often have to pay for," added Smith. "With time you will improve and then be given a window of opportunity, which you have to grab with both hands."
