Why is it that Microsoft expect all other vendors to alter their software in order to run things under their OS. Surely the creator of the OS should be making their system as compatible as possible with other systems .... or is it just a devious ploy to make us upgrade our hardware and software and suffer the cost.

I would seriously advise anyone to create a dual-boot M/C and retain their existing OS if considering an upgrade to Vista to iron out the snags while retaining a usable PC.

    So far Vista has:

Rejected my Creative SB Live Soundcard (switched to soundcard on Mobo).
Detected my Buffalo USB Wireless Connector as a DVD drive.
Rejected the Buffalo Wireless Software altogether (had to manually configure the connection).
Rejected Nero 6 (just ordered 7 on eBay)
Rejected the driver installation disc for my Canon Printer (not an antique, luckily Vista drivers available from Canon).
Rejected my ATI installation disc for graphics card (though it did install alternative drivers automatically).
Prevented the installation of some Firefox Add-Ons (dissabling Windows Defender and things went OK).

Now that everything is just about up and running I am quite impressed with Vista as an operating system (it is afterall very pretty) however I'm grateful it was a free upgrade with my Laptop (though I installed it on my Desktop) and I didn't actually pay hard cash for it.

You seem a little surprised Budfrog that disks and programs that pre-date Vista are not compatible with it...seems a little par for the course for me.

Now it's Cyberlink PowerDVD 6 and also Nero 7 (thats right the NEW one I just ordered) that go belly up.

No support from Microsoft, Ahead (Nero) or Cyberlink however the latter two are happy to sell me their latest 'Vista Compatible' versions at full RRP .... I think I know where they can poke that suggestion :angel3:

However the nice people at Liteon do offer free patches for both, but you have to do a bit of googling to find them.
