Bit of a sad indictment of the state of the game that we have to scrabble around signing up every 17 and 18 year old to professional terms if they so much as show a glimmer of being up to scratch. In years gone by they would have been on YTS deals until 20.
Other way round. YTS deals were in no way comparable in terms of grooming class players in respect of professional finesse, coaching, intensity etc. Harefield demands nothing less than first team level application (add on GCSE pressures) and if you haven't got the ability to get through our academy then best take your 'glimmer' elsewhere. Adam Thompson deserves this contract.
I guess it is more to prevent slimy Premiership clubs getting them for a song. Thompson has plenty of potential.
