£25m apparently, which I would kind of understand seeing as he scored so many goals in the Championship, but nothing suggests he'll be as good in the Prem as Toney, and I believe he's only got a year left on his deal. No chance we sign him, and I'm sure there are plenty of better options out there (not that I think we'll sign any more strikers)
Yes - good player but we won't be spending that much on an unproven striker in the top flight. I mean we spent 17 million on Gray who had got a few for Burnley and look where that has got us.
They'd do well to look at King. Muff turned down a double digit figure in his last year, and he ended up moving for nothing. Same thing is going to happen with Armstrong if they block him from moving to a higher tier club.
Don't believe this is true for a second but if it was, surely Blackburn would be insane to turn down 8 digits for a player who will otherwise leave on a free next season?
I still don’t think our current lot have enough in them to score the goals required. I think someone who has a good record of scoring from wherever is still required. King is not the answer to our problems.
Really can’t see us offering £15mil for him. https://mobile.twitter.com/TheSunFootball/status/1419028569989292036 If we really do have the ability to offer £15mil, then why the hell would we waste that on him. Would rather us offer £4-5mil for Panzo, sort Hughes’ contract out, give him a bumper signing on fee, sign another CM, and sign Brandon Williams on loan to cover Masina. Could do all of that for the same offer we’ve put in for Armstrong.
BBC saying it too. " Watford have had a £15m bid for Adam Armstrong, 24, turned down, with Blackburn holding out for £25m for the former England Under-21 forward. (Sun) The Hornets' long-serving captain Troy Deeney, 33, was called 'Tom Deeney' on the teamsheet for Saturday's friendly against West Brom. (Sun)"
£1m a year over 10 years then £5m if we manage to concede less than 2 in a competitive game vs Citeh.
I don't know why, but he's really gone backwards recently. When he first got in their team he seemed very good, whenever I've seen him in the last season or so he's looked a complete liability.
If Gino can pull £15m out of his arse for yet another striker and we end up skimping on the defence and midfield then serious questions need to be asked.
Judging from today, as well as last season, we're still missing a competent finisher. We created loads of chances last season but struggled to put them away - didn't we have the largest deficit from xG to actual goals scored in the entire division? Unless King somehow rediscover his form of 3 seasons ago we could struggle again and it will cost us. I'm not convinced out of all the possible strikers out there we could splash the cash on that Armstrong would be the best option, but I'd still be pleased if we brought him in as he's more of a goalscorer than anyone we currently have. And it's not my money anyway. I still really think we need another advanced midfielder to replace Gosling/Clevs/Zinc as well though, regardless of our need for a goalscorer. I hope the club had some negotiations with WBA for Pereira after the match yesterday.
Looking at him last season against us, he looks pretty decent at that level. But Blackburn's season imploded much sooner than I thought despite them starting quite well. Armstrong looks like a player who has the odd purple patch then turns into a goal-shy Iggy. We need consistent goal threat especially at the top level. Looking at what we have now, Pedro and Cucho are the only two I would personally start as a front two.
Our £5mil in crypto has turned into £15mil aready. Were you not following the people telling us about the merits of crypto?
I had Armstrong as a player I wouldn't mind us signing at the beginning of the window. I would be still happy if we got him. But it doesn't really add up. A £15m spend on an area of the squad that is already overloaded, whereas we are light at CB and weak in midfield. Looking into this a bit deeper, and maybe signing Armstrong does make sense. He's not big and powerful, he doesn't have great pace and doesn't possess a powerful shot. But what he has is composure in the moment. His movement is very good and predicts where the ball is going to end up. Most of his goals are in the penalty area and are side foot finishes. He has a good first touch, and his execution and decision making is very good. If we sign him he would expect to be first choice, but then so will King. But a season is a long time and both would get plenty of minutes. Football is a squad game these days and rotation is a way to keep players happy and fresh. But what gives if we do sign him? Obviously Gray, Success and Perica are not part of the equation. But we still have Deeney, Fletcher, King, Pedro, Cucho & Dennis who could all play centrally. IMO, Dennis, Pedro and Cucho would be considered as wider options. Mostly on the left side. This would leave just King, Deeney, Fletcher and Armstrong as central striker options. 4 is still quite high for just one position, but it gives up the option of switching to two up front. However, if we're saying Cucho, Dennis and Pedro would be wide options, then we would be overloaded there with Sema, Zinckernagel, Mebude, Hungbo and Baah. Clearly there would be some pruning needed. I think Sema and Zinckernagel would go out on loan. Probably Mebude and Baah out on loan too.
Hasn’t Giaretta said a couple of times that the squad is nearly complete and we just want a CM who has played in the PL before - and that’s our lot? I mean, I couldn’t disagree with him more but he’s said it a couple of times. So unless Masina’s injury is bad, I doubt we should expect anything else.
Really phucking desperately clinging to the hope that Giaretta is using Italian-language interviews to keep his cards close to his chest and put us in the most advantageous position possible for negotiations when we execute all the transfer swoops we're lining up.
Could be agent talk to flush out other potential buyers. That said I wouldn’t mind Armstrong as I think we will struggle to score goals. If you take Sarr’s goals/assists out of the equation, we were no better than a mid table championship side last year for goals, and I am not sure the new signings add much (although I do like the looks of Cucho)
Seems that regardless of who we sign, the main stumbling block is getting rid of the crap we have already. Gray was a terrible piece of business. £18m and £75,000 a week Gray and Burnley have royally pulled Ginos pants down. I know the Ellington transfer was bad but this trumps it ten times over and now we have to offload and try to get some sort of money back. Gray will leave when his contract finishes and we won’t get a penny back. The Pozzos can finally see what a shockingly **** player he really is and no one wants him
One of the football gossip sites headlined that we were using Andre Gray as ‘bait’, which brought to mind the scene where the tethered goat is left for the T-Rex in Jurassic Park.
