So which young talents do we think are going to break through from the academy in the next year?

I think it could be a big year for the likes of bryan and mingoia. i fully expect thompson to carry on with the huge strides he was making in the second half of last season. whichelow to stake a claim for a regular starting role?

i reckon massey may take up the sordell role of last year, would be nice if he could chip in with 10 or so goals.

i reckon murray and assombalonga will probably be on the bench more often than not.

I think Murray will play a very big part next year and I am looking forward to seeing more of him in the middle. It is a big year for Whichelow as well.

hmmm interesting. do we really think murray is tough enough to step up into the first team? i didnt see him at preston but hear he did well.

If Whichelow has worked on his stamina and overall fitness over the pre-season then this should be a very big season for him.

Ability-wise he looks like a great prospect and one of the best players that I have seen come out of our academy for years.

The same goes for Adam Thompson.

    Dereece Gardner!

    or probably Whichelow.
Hopefully Hodson gets off to a solid start too.

is he that solid looking lad i saw on a thread the other day. probably a loan beckoning for him i reckon.

i agree with the above sentiments about whichelow, hopefully if he has muscled up a bit he will be able to play some full games. he has some brilliant talent so hopefully he will be able to physically improve.

Yeah, I mentioned him (Gardner) a few days ago

Started off at Villa's academy and now will be a 2nd year scholar I think.

Probably too early for a loan, maybe a Carling Cup sub appearence though.

Whichelow and Thompson for sure will be big players next season, I can see both being regular starters by the end of the season, and both our HUGE prospects, keep them grounded and they are stars of the future.

    Murray is one which confuses me, he's been very impressive every time i've seen him play, was very good against Chelsea in the youth cup, had a great little cameo against Q.P.R and followed this with a solid performance at Preston. This, accompanied by these;

Suggests he could be could be even better than the two mentioned above, and as good as AY. However someone at the club told me he's actually not very good and being quite over hyped, so i'll reserve judgement before I get too excited.

Massey is another one which puzzles me, very hyped up and subject to interest from Liverpool, yet has looked sh*te in his 4 appearances, and hardly impressed when on loan at Wealdstone. But then neither again neither did Marv, and I hope Massey will surprise me by playing a decent role off the bench year.

Hodson and Jenkins I expect more of the same from, perhaps both with age becoming a little more consistent, but Millwall at home last season was Jenkins best game in a Watford shirt and if he can regain the form he had under Brenda we have a very good player on our books.

I expect to see some cameo's from Assambolonga, Isaac and Hoban perhaps too. I expect one of the youngsters we hadn't expected much from to step up and play a role next season too, always seems to be one. Roll on next season!

    Next manager

I hope that Josh Walker gets to play some part next season. He looked pretty good when he made a few sub appearances at the start of the season, certainly better than Drinkwater (not that that would be hard) and Jenkins!

I play football with a Northampton season ticket holder and he is praying they don't try and get him back for next season - by all accounts he was utter 5hyte for them.

Well in all honesty I wasn't that impressed with Murray when I saw him against Chelsea in the Youth Cup - other than his goal I thought he looked like he was carrying a bit too much weight and was generally off the pace.

Also based on the Chelsea game Massey looks like he does have potential, for example he looked impressive physically, had sound positional sense and worked hard, but technically he still looked a bit too raw - his first touch was often a bit off and when he tried to take defenders on he never really looked like he had the ball under control and it would run away from him. I would say he needs at least another year on loan before he should be in serious consideration for the first team squad.

Of the players I saw I thought that Isaac and Assombalonga played with the most maturity and looked to be the most solid technically, but again due to their ages I think it will be another season until they start getting much game time.

Whichelow, Murray and Isaac. Might be too early yet for Isaac.

And any decent season for these kids and all the vultures would be swooping again.

Most Premier***** teams have a folder on Murray and several scouts will have noted the performance of Whichelow already.

but that is just what we need, we are a selling club. if whichelow is worth 1.5m next year im sure that we will be selling him and same with murray.

I think for Murrey and Massey its going to be a year of sitting on the bench and getting a few cameos here and there. i don't think either of them, despite their talent are ready to influence games quite yet.

Matty Whichelow i think is going to be a top top player. I can see him playing as a support striker more as the season goes on and scoring plenty of goals. I really don't expect him to be here at the start of the 2012/13 season and wouldn't be suprised if he gets picked up by one of the top 6 or 7 clubs.

Thompson i think will end up as a right sided midfielder, not necessarily as a winger, with Hodson behind him. His good and strong in the air, gets forward and carries the ball well and has pace.

Can Jenkins still be counted as a youngster ? at 21 this is going to be his season, hopefully he can stay injury free but if he can reproduce the form he did till Todgers over played him, I think this could be a great year for him.
