I can never understand this sort of thing. http://news.sky.com/story/1714659/horse-shot-in-eye-with-arrow-in-wicked-attack
Possibly not the best theory to base a criminal justice system around Diamond. How about ask the public if they've seen anyone with a bow and arrow in the area? Not such a common sight these days.
My daughter used to attend the Elswood Bowmen (they're always on the lookout for new members and hold lots of "have a go" sessions) in Snorbens. Looking at that photo of poor dobbin I don't think he's been purposely "shot" - from what I saw of my daughter (then 10) shooting - the arrow had enough power to easily go through any "soft target" (aka "flesh") at anything up to 50 m away. I *think* the horse has just been unlucky and got hit by a miss. A mate of a mate owns that nuclear bunker thingy in Essex. He has plans to turn into some sort of rough shooting business in the attached woodland. Someone's been using it for hunting with a crossbow (illegal) - Dave's shown me a photo of a crossbow bolt embedded some 5 cm in a concrete bunker wall - he's a physicist, so for fun, he followed the trajectory of the thing and discovered it has been fired from 30 m away and travelled through a 15 cm tree trunk.
Interesting theory. Unlucky horse if the case though could it not just have been embedded in the bone? Kelvedon Hatch is a fascinating place. Once did a training day there.
Its a great afternoon out for a rainy day... its a great way to get into the place as well.. "whens a house not a house?"
