For those that might not be aware, the A41 between Hemel and the M25 has been shut since this morning because of a 10 car pile up. It's closed in both directions for the next few hours at least.

1 death, 1 very serious injury and a Romanian charged with causing death by dangerous driving

    Did look pretty horrific.

Been far too many bad accidents on the A41 lately, saw someone got lucky when they stuffed it into the lampost at the Bourne End junction a few days ago, clearly coming too fast and couldn't turn the corner.

Someone else went off this evening as well. It won't be long before we see cameras on there.

I've always wondered why there are never any cameras or speed traps on that road. It's a free for all, I'm just surprised that there haven't been more accidents.

That road is a notorious speed attraction, people come from all over Herts in the middle of the night from certain groups to *cough* test their cars.

It's rarely policed, you get the old copper coming on at Hemel and getting straight off the junction after and that's it. I remember asking why ages ago and he said something about Herts constab wanting Bucks to help police it, but fark knows why.

They either need to put cameras up, or split the road up with actual junctions..

I remember a group of traffic cops coming to our school when I was in 6th Form to teach us about road safety (given there were a lot of new drivers) They told us about a horrific incident, which I won't detail, that they witnessed on the A41.

I used to see the odd undercover volvo in the lay-by between Hemel and Kings Langley.
There was an accident a few years ago, which opened the debate again about whether it should be (re) upgraded to motorway standards- the problem is the amount of space needed to make junctions safe is huge. The Bourne End junction is particularly tight and if the road were upgraded it would surely have to be scrapped.

It was a motorway years and years ago wasn't it? Or was that just the section between Tring and Northchurch?

I think just the section between Northchurch and Tring. The A41(M).
There's an old map online somewhere...

Do we know if the man mentioned is the tanker driver?

Why does every media outlet insist on announcing him as a Romanian as if it bares any weight or difference to the situation/article.

It's also got all the ****ing dribbling ***** on Hemeltoday.co.uk arguing about 'foreign lorry drivers', when it doesn't even state that he was the guy driving the tanker!

Why would he be driving down the M1 if he drove between Aylesbury and Watford?

Anyway, tragic stuff. I've said to the missus in the past I'm amazed there isn't a huge smash on that road. Everyday I drive down it and cars are nose to tail at 80 mph plus.

Yup, and the amount of people that fly down to the end at high speeds either being dumb or expecting it to be another slip on/off junction is unbelievable..

I recall a few months ago being overtaken by a car load of Watford supporting louts on the A41 whilst going back to Tring after a game when I admit I was doing at least 90 mph, possibly 100 myself. Don't suppose you can shed any light on that Mr. Prentice?

    Get rid of cars.

We'd see a much nicer world then. More focussed on local community and less pollution.

    No traffic jams.

What car was it? I never have those spanners in my car!

I reserve my speed for track

I think it was Tom.T who possibly driving, we had a bit of banter on Hempstead Road (Brads was in my motor) then he did me just before the Berko/Chesham junction when I didn't see him coming until too late. I couldn't quite pull him back before Tring.

was a Renault Clio possibly, was a good few months ago to be fair.

I've just driven down the A41 and there was a car on it's roof in the middle of the road just past Kings Langley :dismay:
