Why do Watford fans have to have a player to hate in our own team

I have not had a chance to get to a game yet this season, so I have not seen Iwelumo play, but no matter how bad he is perceived to be playing, he does not deserve to be treated so badly by our own fans.

FFS give the guy a chance, and if he does end up being a dud, which is by no means certain as yet, we should say thanks but no thanks and move him out of the club, not boo him and slate as many of you seem do be doing already!!!

He's wearing the yellow shirt, so get behind him and give him encouragement, he might just respond!!!

    U' OOOOOOOOooorrrrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnnnnnnsssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!

Direct approach? He has no approach. Ive seen oil tankers move more quickly. Balls ping off him at all angles. He actually makes himself shorter than his height if he has to head (What the ****!?!?) He's a no trick pony, it aint fitness, he isnt very good

If his shirt wasn't so tight, he might be able to move a little more.

I'm guessing that Dyche and Co. are looking to bring in another striker, probably in loan by now and start him up front with Sordell with Iwelumo on the bench, playing 30 mins as an impact player. Sordell and Iwelumo can't play together from what i've seen in the past 2 matches, Sordell needs a quick, strong player to compliment his attributes.

    Agreed. Give the guy time.

He reminds me of an American Footballer but without the pads in terms of build. And it looks as though he waxes his head like a helmet. The floodlights were bouncing off his shiny dome.

    They're my thoughts anyway.

"Watford manager Sean Dyche has leapt to the defence of striker Chris Iwelumo, following a slow start to the season.

The 33-year-old has yet to find the net in his three Hornets starts and endured supporter criticism in Tuesday's 4-0 loss to West Ham.

But Dyche said the Scotland international was suffering from the effects of a pre-season setback.

"It's a bit harsh on him because he's not 100% fit," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"It hasn't happened for him so far, we believe in him, we think he's great around the group, a great leader and we think it will work for him.

"To be fair to Chris he's come in, got injured. We've played him when he's not properly fit, hoping the games will get him sharp.

"We'll find a partnership over time that works. He's a very honest player and he'll be a little bit disappointed with his performance but his record tells you there's a lot more to come."

Iwelumo, who scored 11 times in his 45 league games for Burnley last season, was paired with Marvin Sordell against the Hammers, with Troy Deeney and Gavin Massey used off the bench.

And Dyche insisted he was still hoping to bolster those attacking options.

"We're looking to bring players in, we have a [financial] situation everyone's aware of," he explained.

"Certain clubs have raised the bar again in terms of finance and contracts, we have to challenge at our level."

Sorry Dyche, you might as well give up.

Our supporters are far too thick, you might as well not bother.

Thing is, if he is not 100% fit why is he playing?! Prince is not 100% fit and therefore hasn't been playing.

Say what you like about Deeney, but i'd rather have a similarly strong player who works harder and is fitter playing, than a half-fit player ...

So we are playing someone with an injury rather than a good young talent & a striker who we only bought last season & played in numerous games last season.

    Tactical legend in the making

The manager is aware of the issue -- and supporting his player. It is his decision whether to play Deeney or not, which is one he bases on trying combinations in training rather than the 3 match performances of one player. OK , situation is not ideal but random experimentation never has been and never will be the solution.

It doesn't really say a lot for Dyche's opinion of the ability of the likes of Deeney and Massey (and their own confidence) if he prefers to play another "striker" he admits is unfit!

Simple thing is you don't need fitness to be able to pass the ball or to move a little!!

First half Sordell took on about 3 of there players right to the edge of the box, the square ball was there for all of us to see yet Iwelumo moved out of the space closer to the defender!? Anyone who plays Powerleague on a Sunday would know to make that run! Yet a 500K striker doesnt!?

For those who feel we should encourage anyone in a Watford shirt I have this to say: We should support them on the pitch and not boo but in discussion, as this is, it is fine to point out flaws.

I dont think it is wise to wait and give him more of a chance.

If the manager put a bit of 2 by 4 in a Watford Shirt would we give it 3+ games to show it couldnt do the job?
No. Because it would be clear it couldn't. Same with this guy. He aint going to get a hell of a lot better.

Better to play a youngster or loanee, or, I hate this idea I really do, 4-5-1 with Sordell upfront.

Sorry extra 0. But you get my point, we need a creative midfielder desperately so hopefully Prince is a good player.

    Yes you do.

Lack of fitness affects every aspect of your game. You are always one step off of play and have no sharpness whatsoever. It also affects you mentally as well as physically.

Yes I do get your point, but I think it is important to remember that Iwelumo and Sordell are still getting used to each other. They didn't play all of pre-season together, Iwelumo isn't fully fit, he is at a new club, and in the three games we have played this season he has played in the equivelant of about two full games. It is disjointed at the moment but he will come good.

More to the point, he will come good even quicker without a load of abuse and jeering going his way this early on. Watford fans are well regarded for being patient with players and I think most fans are, but the few who aren't at the moment need to button it.

At least Iwelumo has some championship pedigree, Deeney scored a few goals in league 1 and people think hes our saviour?

Have never, will never boo a player.

But as its been said, why are we not using him as an impact sub? If he's not fit, don't play him against fresh legs, play him in the last 20 once deeney has run them down.

Also as I said above, sordell needs someone making space or runs. OR someone feeding him balls on a plate. Chris does neither.

True, the jeering was unnecessary just seen a lot of people making it out as if he wasn't utter *****? Hopefully him and Sordell can work it out by Christmas because if not i can see Marvin moving to Swansea and re-igniting a partnership with Danny.

But yeah i agree give Big Chris a few more games but if he hasn't scored a goal by our 10th game i shall be worried.

Nobody's saying he's our saviour but i guarantee he'd be better than an unfit & on the day a useless Iwelumo?
