Well they are saying that Storie will be suprised about this as it was only yesterday eve that we was likely to complete a deal. Saying that, Al Fahim was meant to be part of his consortium. A bit of a mystery???

You realise that if Tommy was on 12k a week at ours he was 624k a year and if he gets 14k at Pompey/Reading he will be on 728k

90% Of football supporters would struggle to earn that in 20 years

Astronomical figures , to go with what he will get as a signing on fee and what he has earnt in a relativley succesfull football career thus far..

Thus , i think it is YOU who is talking drivel...

Agree, If smith was earning 4k a week on average for previous 10 years, he'd have earnt over 2 million, plus the last two years is another 1.2m, plus maybe 4 more years at watford on 5k a year is another million. 4m+ for 15 years or so.

If he really wanted to stay, he would negotiate a pay cut and still probaly earn more than I will in my lifetime over the next 4 years.

No problem with being in the minority as life is all about opinions. Football these days falls under the entertainment industry rather than sport and so people within that industry get paid insane salaries. Pop stars/ musicians get record contracts worth £80mil and movie stars get $15mil plus per film but I you never people moan they are all about the money.

Regarding Smith, he has the chance to move to a better team, doing the same job and get paid more. Anyone in any walk of life would do that, to say otherwise is just lies. Would you take a massive paycut just to stay where you are?

    Leighton............you are 100% spot on.

You are saying exactly what I have been trying to say in my last few posts.

    I can't understand how someone asks me if I would take a 50% pay cut. I course I wouldn't. I earn 23k a year not 12/14k a week ffs.

Footballers live in a dream world. The sooner salary caps are brought back in the better.

Bang on Leighton me ol mate. The wages earned by footballers these days are criminal n arf of em do fark all to earn it.Yeah they do 'retire' at thirty but whats stopppin em get a normal job like the rest of us eh ? Most people are sucked into the drivel that is spouted on tv, there is not one person connected in football who will admit that footballers are overpaid. Cos theyre all part of it.

bang on. I was just going to say the same thing. It's all relative. Tommy Smith's life would be infinitely more comfortable than any of ours on 25% of what he's earning and he's lucky enough to be paid to do what we do for fun.

Perspective please as has been said already.

Yeah footballers are paid too much, but in his shoes, being offered, say 6K to stay at Watford (which he hasn't been, but for argument's sake) and 14k at Pompey, would any of you, hand on heart, turn down the better offer? Are any of you that stupid?

Indeed. As I said on another thread, Tommy is not going to choose Pompey because he loves the Watford fans or because he hates Reading. He is going to choose them because it makes the most sense for him as they're a Premiership team and they will pay him well.

What?! why do you think he skipped the press conference to go to Pompy?
Smudger planned it to embarass Rodgers and give a nice leaving present to Watford because he loves us!

He probably had no intention of ever going to Reading, just setting up a funny scene for us fans that he adores

I think we should build a statue of him in the centre circle, or at least on the roof or something, maybe re name the East stand the tommy smith stand

How can you be so ungrateful?? Surely renaming the club to Tommy Smith FC is the minimum we should do?
