................ on the way to the match!

May have been done before but what the hell!

On my way to Vicarage Road back in 1973/4 season a coach pulled up besides me and my mates in St Albans Road near the Caledonian Hotel. We were aged 13. A chap stepped off the coach and asked us if we were going to the match and, if so, could the passengers walk there with us.

To our surprise the chap was Theo Foley (the Charlton manager) and the passengers were the Charlton players - it was his idea to help them loosen up with a walk before the match. So they followed us through the town centre to the ground.

Anything strange happen to any others?

Didn't happen to me but David Beckham pulled over to help someone who's car broke down this morning. He's one of the few footballers that I actually like for their personalities, and seems genuinely nice.

We lost 3-1 so I suppose you could blame us - we should have taken them on a longer route!

Took a pi$$ standing next to Sir Harry Secombe once. Pro-Celeb golf thing in the 80's. Also met Terry Wogan and that bloke off Robins Nest and Man About The House. Was also at Heathrow when A Fish Called Wanda was being filmed and met both John Cleese and Michael Palin, both nice blokes and didnt mind chatting during a break in filming. Was this only meant to be about footie?

Ainsley Harriet offered me a cigarette once.

Standing outside waiting to watch an episode of ready steady cook being filmed, and he came outside for a *** break after the previous show and offered me one. I must have been about 13/14 at the time.

Similar to above. Sold an Ice-cream and cinema ticket to Darren Gough the other week. And have served alot of the MK Dons squad (but unlike everyone else who works in the cinema I do, I don't consider them any different from anyone else...)

If this was 'a strange thing happened while i was walking my dog' GT might just post that a few years ago I drove past him near his house in Four Oaks while he was walking the dog, did a quick u-turn, pulled over and jumped out walking towards him. I think he thought I was some kind of nutter to start with but after I'd introduced myself as a watford fan we talked for a few minutes and before we went on he thanked me for taking the time to stop! There's only one Graham Taylor!!

Good stuff from someone who some people would consider a role-model.

Can't exactly say I was around at the time, but I saw the film 'The Damned United' or whatever it was called at some point last year, and in that it showed how Don Revie would stop the bus short of the ground, and make the players walk the last 100 yards to the stadium - something like that anyway.

I don't know if you could exactly consider it similar - I just thought it was quite a good film, and that stuck in my mind. Can't imagine many clubs would be able to do that now though...

I once got a loaf of bread given to me for free from adam boulton. The most bizarre experience of my life.

Also after the pompey game this season I was nearly struck down by an £80,000 Audi R8 that Dave Nugent was driving.
