A set top box?

Bit of advice please from you youngsters ?

For a spare TV in a bedroom we had been using an old sky box connected to the satellite dish to get normal tv and few a few spare channels. It was adequate, and cost nothing.

The Sky box has gone to meet it's maker, in the sky, and I am somewhat confused about a replacement.

So, we have a Sky dish and connection available, no normal TV aerial socket, no broadband (although we have wifi, if necessary). I dont really want to add any aerials or extra connectors, I just want to plug it in and neither HD, catchup or recording, are necessary.

Is there a system or box (new) that would cost up to about £20/£30 and remote that would replace the Sky box adequately, please?

Or do I need to look at something that costs more?

    Thanks for any help.

Answering a question with a question but can you not just buy a second hand replacement Sky box? They're ten a penny on eBay and the like.

    Who is your internet provider?
There are so many ways to get free tv these days but for £20/30 I'm not sure that's gonna cover it!

Thought of that, but I wondered if there was anything better (and more reliable than something second hand).

You can get a cheap Freesat box to give you 100+ channels which will use the existing Sky dish, in most cases. eBay or Argos about £25 for simple SD box, more expensive options available for HD and recording etc.

Like SKY you can watch whichever local news you prefer.

Depending on your local signal you may even be able to use a Freeview box with an indoor aerial (not a reliable method though) or of course extend your aerial cable to the TV.

If the TV has an HDMI you can use an internet dongle like ROKU or NOW TV and Bob's your uncle.

Ah! That is the sort of thing I meant. Thanks for that, I knew my best mate on here wouldn't let me down!
