Williamson, Stewart, Hendo all should be dropped. Start a thread about them, unless you've taken the easy option knowing everyone will agree ( i agree he should be dropped before you ask). You wouldn't take the easy option now would you ?

i think your wrong their chewitt williamson shouldnt be dropped when o'toole came on fair enough it was a short amount of time but we looked alot better at center mid because those two can play together and for the first time that game we had two midfielders rather than one

Lets just say both our main midfielders have been poor to settle an arguement?

I've been a big supporter of Mahon but tonight he was awful, as was Williamson and Stewart.

Its not the players fault, aidy shouldn't pick out of form players who are low on confidance.

the midfield pairing of Mahon and Williamson isnt working.

They switch it up and sometimes we get Mahon as the attacking midfielder what is that about.

I would like to see Williamson with O'Toole just to see if it can improve Willow's game atall.

Because believe it or not and I agree with you all and the peeps on GH that Williamson is very quiet during the games but when he does get on the ball he does do some very good passes.

Williamson has more quality than mahon. Although he doesn't seem to want the ball at his feet and dictate the play. That's all we need.. someone like jonathan greening for west brom or andy reid for charlton. thats what we miss.

Last seaon the Francis/Mahon combination didn't work, this season it's the Mahon/Williamson combination, Anyone notice a re-occuring pattern? The Spring/Mahon combination did work but that's because Spring was everywhere and would win the ball when making a tackle.

Mahon is the weak link in midfield, yes Williamson has been poor, but he has more natural ability (pace and strength) than Mahon, who despite his role as clearing up lacks the pace to do the job effectively anymore imo. He lets men get by, so does Williamson but remember he is meant to be the attacking of the two. JJOT is an all round box to box midfielder and made the midfield appear more solid because he is similar in style to Spring.

mahon isnt technically gifted, but when the rest of the team have given up, mahon hasn't. for burnley's 2nd who was the one sprinting back? mahon.

and chewitt i have no idea what you would do if stewart was dropped, i think he's been good, and we have no one better

Good passes ?? He rarely has the ball and he isn't exactly expansive in his range of passes.

Good ? Have you been lately ?

I agree totally, Willo has been worse than Mahon lately but yesterday he was far better. I would like to see Francis paired with Willo next game

Far better is taking a bit far, i saw little from either to suggest either one was better whilst they should both be dropped with O'Toole playing with Francis.

    I'd go along with that!

I'd have both Mahon and Williamson out the side for Francis and O'Toole!

I rate Williamson and I really do think he'll come good...but he's been woeful in the last 2 and 1/2 games!

I thought Mahon was the better of the two last night, but not by much! Neither of them won anything in midfield all night...both are too deep (as i've been stressing for the past week)!

Williamson isn't being used properly! He should be pushing up the pitch and getting into the box more to join Hendo, King, Smith and McAnuff!

He was deeper than Mahon for most of yesterday!

Francis would sort this out I'm sure of it! He likes to get into the box and score goals...this is what we lack desperatley!

Mahon was better, but only slightly!

Nope, I thought particularly in the first half Willo was our only link between the strikers and the midfield. Some of his passing was decent and he spread the play well. Second half he went missing a bit.

Mahon was terrible first half, second half he was better than Willo

There's no doubting he's got the energy and enthusiasm to get up and down the field, but he just doesn't seem to want the ball, which is probably what you need from an attacking minded midfielder.

I don't know whether you were there yesterday or like me, watched on tv but watching on tv gives a different perspective to being in the ground and the number of times he didn't even consider taking a touch but hoofed it first time or headed it forwards aimlessly when he had time and space to control it suggested to me he'd rather not have the ball. Next time we get a throw, watch how he stands static, no desire to find space and look to recieve the ball. The same happens when our defenders get the ball, he's static in midfield with no desire to drop deep and give the defence an option to go short.

Don't get me wrong, i think he could develop into a useful player, but if we're going to improve as a side, it's people like him that have got to show desire to bring the ball down and pass it. Perhaps if he had a partner in midfield that also wanted to get the ball down we'd see an improvement from him but i'm not convinced thats the reason for his poor recent form.

Very true. If we had a player like that our defenders would probably be tempted to pass the ball through midfield sometimes as well, instead of just kicking it aimlessly up in the air.

We have good ball players in the team, we really do. King, obviously, and Smith, McAnuff, even Hendo has a nice touch and some clever passes. Willo is good at passing the ball and our full backs are eager to make overlap runs. We can out-play most of the teams in this division. The problem is that when the ball is in the air all the time we take all that skill and precision out of the equation, and you get completely random games, like against Bristol City. Roll the dice and oooh we lost. Now that's fine when you play against vastly superior oppositions, but in this division we are better than most teams and we should be able to beat most teams on a regular basis. If we just turn it all into a lottery however, we'll end up somewhere around 10th.

I was there yesterday mate (for my sins), and I agree, yesterday he wasn't creating space for himself or showing for the ball! I've been banging on about this all season...everytime a defender has the ball Willo and Mahon are nowhere near them showing for the ball...Greening does this brilliantly for WBA, and they build from the back...we hoof the ball 60 yards up the pitch, lose the initial first ball and then our midfield is too deep/slow to pick up the second ball before the opposition's midfield do!

When Williams comes back (although the situation needs addressing now with a short term loan deal) we will have a PROPER passing midfielder that has composure and 'know-how'!

Mahon kept getting pulled out of position yesterday due to williamson not playing in position.

I agree we should re shuffle the midfeild and play o'toole more.

I liked the fact that o'toole was only on the picth yesterday for 10-15 minutes and got man of the match!

It's the basics of football, but do you think playing Williams alongside Willo would improve him and he'd start looking for the ball more often? In all honesty, i can't hardly remember him doing it and he's almost been here a year now. If he added that to his game, i've no doubt he'd be a decent player for us because he's got a great engine and does get himself into decent positions on the edge of the box. Has he got the ability to change his mentality or is it just down to him being low on confidence?

Unfortunately, I am not sure if any of our central midfielders are top drawer.
Francis is lazy, Mahon is fit for the abbatoir, Willo wears a cloak of invisibility for 85 minutes a game, O'Toole may be the answer, but it remains to be seen, Rinaldi is just marking time at the moment, surely destined to be released by Aidy at the earliest opportunity. We are all waiting for Williams to be fit again, but what evidence is there that he is going to make the difference? As with most of our squad, we have quantity, not quality of options.

I think O'Toole is the answer, and I think Francis would be perfect alongside him!

O'Toole, ever since he's come into the side has actually BOTHERED to support the front two and get into the box...if things had worked out better for him he could have had 5-6 goals before yesterday! He makes chances for himself and he's brave!

He also looks confident on the ball and doesn't hack at it aimlessley like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum! :dismay:
