A Christmas message to the Pozzo's

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s a good time to reflect on the incredible rise in the club’s fortunes and I would like to give a heartfelt thanks to our owners.

They understand what modern football is all about and it’s probably fair to use the word “genius” to describe their knowledge of how to run a football club.

For them to choose Watford for their “project”, is the biggest stroke of luck in the history of the club. The timing of it couldn’t have been any better either. We were on the verge of administration, make no mistake about that, then who comes long to save us? Yes, probably the smartest and shrewdest operator in the business.

Their great strength is stealth, rather than wealth. They go about their business very quietly. No one has noticed Watford, but we are sitting in 7th place in the Premier League and people are only now scratching their heads saying “how the hell did that happen?” It really surprises me how ignorant the football world is and it is staggering that no one in the media has really clicked on to it.

They have one of the best scouting networks in the world, and clearly know how to sign a player.

Money is spent on important things, like infrastructure rather than agents and they know how to keep footballers happy, with the best training facilities, food and travel that you could possibly get.

Fans are treated very well too. They understand community and choose their clubs very carefully. Regular events such as “At your place” and open days are put on throughout the season.

The stadium is a venue you want to spend time in after all the development work, and I love how the place is just rocking now on match days.

Take a look at their activities from every angle and it oozes intelligence and class.

This clearly is working for them, so why is no one else doing it? I think it’s because their blueprint is very difficult to replicate. It is an ever evolving beast that only works if you continually make correct decisions over a LONG period of time. Most owners do not have the time or ability to stick with that, they want success yesterday and will spend millions trying to achieve it.

The Pozzo’s are pioneers and visionaries. As a fan, I hope they never tire of owning this very special club of ours.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

    Dear Pozzos,

Your cunning plan to get Muff to pay well over the odds for our transfer rejects is working a treat & is very entertaining. Please keep it up.

as said in the other pozzo thread. If their scouting network is so good, why are granada struggling so badly?

I'm glad they are at watford and it's working for us so far, but I wonder if a granada fan would agree with your gushing praise?

They're worth less and unlikely to expand much further so get less put in. Is that simple enough for you?

Or alternatively, they arent quite the geniuses the fellow who made this OTT thread claims them to be.

It's sickeningly over the top. They are hard-faced businessmen who are using our club to make themselves richer. That's it. Why should we be thanking them in this manner? Us and granada mean nothing to them apart from as a means to get richer. Which is fine while we benefit from it, but to deify them is bizarre.

Did you have £20m to plough into the club to pay off the debts and give the club some working capital?

Do you have the European contacts to get players in to get promoted and sit 7th in the league?

Did you provide the funds to build a new stand and improve the infrastructure?

Did you invest in the academy to comply with the EPPP requirements?

Do you provide free/subsidised travel for supporters?

Do you even have a pot to p!ss in?

If you weren't so clueless then I would point out FIFA and UEFA rules about co-ownership of clubs, you know each club is completely independent.

Gino has no say in how Granada or Udinese are run, his only interest is Watford.

So unlike Bas or Simpson who were ultimately in it for money, I wouldn't begrudge the Pozzo's making a return on their investment because they have done more in 3 years than any other chairman except Sir Elton,

So take your fake and misguided indignation and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

    ******.

Yes, they seem to be astute business men. But their handling of granada means we probably shouldnt start s ucking their plums just yet. Though I see it's too late for you.

Agree with the rest of your post but I think it's massively unfair to lump Graham Simpson in with conman Bassini.

Do you remember where Granada were when they invested in them?

Granada need to stay up this season...just like ourselves as the TV rights next season go up.

In Spain, Real Madrid and Barcelona used to negotiate their own deals, Real Madrid receive around £140m a year, Granada receive a fraction of that (around 10% give or take). So by taking players from Granada we are actually helping them balance the books in terms of reducing their wage bill.

Next year the La Liga rights have entered into a CBA, which means like the Premier League, the clubs get a bigger share of the revenue and it's not so much of a cartel with Barca and Real Madrid.

Therefore, survival and keeping the books balanced is the priority for Granada because next year they will have a lot more money to invest in better players.

    It's called doing some research.

  22. Relegation Certs

none of that explains why "one of the best scouting networks in the world" cant pick up cheap gems and keep granada out of trouble in what is a pretty poor league.

I'm far from anti-pozzo, but I'm not going to start calling them the best thing that's ever happened to my club just yet. It's incredibly disrespectful to the past glories we've had.

At best it's a mutually beneficial arrangement.

jesus christ, we're 7th in the premiership and yet to have a key player depart. seems like overall we're getting a good deal. they can keep billions for themselves as far as i care, as long we're a secure mid table side

I do kind of get where RC is coming from but at the same time I'm astounded but the improvement on and off the field we have all witnessed. They have transformed our club, but not out of a love for Watford but as an investment. We should thank them for their astute deals and all they have done but there is a big difference between them and Elton.

Well that's a contender for back-handed compliment of 2015 if ever there was one.

If they are doing it purely for the money then why did they pick Watford over all the 91 other League clubs they could have picked? As HB1 says, we should count ourselves very honoured and lucky that the Pozzos realized our potential while fully respecting our history and family club ethos.

Ha! It is capitalism. It is money. It is football. Who can be surprised that our owners want to make money out of owning us? We spend all day every day in this country with people wanting to make money out of us.

Our club isn't an object of ridicule and scorn these days. We're flying in the top division and nobody can claim hoofing or slopes or any of that foolishness they did before. The players we have are a pleasure and thrill to watch - so unlike the manful struggles of some of those who, on reflection, were perhaps average players at best. Whenever we did get anyone half decent, they soon pished off to somewhere more glamorous or paying higher wages. Our lovely ground was looking more than a bit tatty and having only 3 sides to it was terrible. Now the Vic looks a picture.

When the Pozzos came, to be honest, I expected a down side. I thought perhaps our best talent might disappear off to Udinese and we'd get Charlton-style no account, 3rd rate European journeymen. I certainly expected sales of players who started to come to prominence at the first sniff of a decent offer from the "big" clubs - I was braced for that on their past record of developing then selling. I would have forgiven them if they'd flogged Deeney to Leicester that time for example. But it hasn't happened.

Every single thing that has happened over their time in charge has been positive. I can't think of one single negative thing on the other side of the balance.

So I don't really care if they're making a profit.

Fair play to them if they are.

I agree with all you say here. They have been brilliant for us and long may it continue.

But it's strange to see fans tug their forelock and offer grovelling thanks to millionaires who are making further millions out of their club, and who will drop the club without hesitation as soon as the money dries up.

It's great that they are here and we are doing so well, but we'd still be here without them.

Best thing that's ever happened to the club indeed.

    Yeah, you're moron.

If they weren't here we wouldn't be as we had Bas and the Russos bleeding the club dry. They would have put us into administration and we would probably have been wound up.

I'm embarrassed for you, never read so much crap in my life.

I wouldn't go so far, as we survived the post-V1alli and ITV Digital collapse era without too much trouble and while retaining our Div.1/Championship status (and what's more, achieving a pretty major miracle in the process). Was the club in that much worse a state in the early 2010s pre-Pozzos than it was in the early to mid 2000s?

  35. hornetgags

Very possibly, yes. Who knows what would have happened with Bas in charge.

We definitely would not have been promoted, more likely relegated.

    If you weren't such a ****** and bandwagon fan...actually I do think you're a troll...definitely a moron...then you would know this.

So a question to test you...who bankrolled Bas?
