    Chaps,

before you follow the preceeding Lemming gleefully over the Red Top cliff... Could you just pause & take a moment to inform us all:

    a. Who you'd bring in, why and on what terms.

    b. The signings & tactical changes they would make to improve things. (based on ability and resources, naturally...)

    c. How they would cope with near administration, Non-Dom owners, a threadbare squad, reliance on loan signings, lack of transfer cash, injuries, shocking refereeing, terrible pitch, etc, etc....

    Much appreciated.....

Robo i Can generally agree with you on point A, although there are load of managers out of work

and as far as point C goes, we spent the best part of £500k in january ona centre back, a winger and a centre midfielder. We aren't the only people in that position.

I do agree that theres no need to knee jerk and sack Malky, but things do need to change and he is the only one that can do that

    a. No point naming names but I'm pretty sure that other than the obvious few the vast majority of unemployed British managers would be prepared to come here on terms suitable for our club. It's really not a tough gig compared to some. It would be nice for once to have a manager in charge of the team who has done it before - the last one was Lewington and he hasn't managed since!

    b. Signings? How about not signing a crock from Rochdale who needs 2 months plus to be nursed back to fitness, just in time for the end of the season? He could be farking Cristiano Ronaldo for all we know but fat lot of use he is watching from the stands. How about not signing Travner? There's no doubt we've made some good loan signings but I fear a deal has already been signed behind the scenes to make the HH deal permanent (prematurely) and Cleverley won't be back next season regardless of what division we're in.

Tactically I'm still baffled by the ignorance of Malky towards Hoskins (obviously some personal fall out behind it), the persistence with HH and DG as our strikers and the defensive rejig to accomodate Demerit and which has coincided with our slump in form. Resources wise WAS is right to point out that £500k was spent in January. Not a massive amount at this level but more than some and we have no notable debt. Most of Malky's substitutions confuse me and the team often seems to come out of teamtalks a changed outfit. Unfortunately it's usually for the worse.

    c. All window dressing. Shocking refereeing decisions affect everyone, our pitch amazingly affects every team we play at home just as much as us, we're not alone in relying on loan signings or flirting with administration and actually I'd say we've done fairly with injuries this season.

This isn't a massive 'I hate Malky' campaign as far as I'm concerned. He's a good guy, may well turn out to be a good manager and obviously did a fair bit in his career. He's also shown loyalty in his comments. But he's naturally lacking in experience and the way football is these days can we afford to be someone's learning curve? Maybe 10-15yrs ago you could afford to drop one or two divisions with an inexperienced manager, knowing the gap to get back up wasn't that steep and that your newly experienced manager could stay to do it. These days we could easily end up fighting relegation from League 1 within a couple of seasons with no obvious way back.

I can't see him being sacked or resigning. It'd be nice to see him accept some help, get someone experienced in to assist him and stop the farking broken record that is his post-match interviews. Someone on another thread compared him to Gordon Brown. I can see it - dour Scotsman with delusional thoughts about recent achievements living on past glories.

I am happy to keep my faith with the Malkster. But bloody hell play Hoskins, no matter what the problem with him or his attitude is, we are creating chances but just not converting. Either H & Graham don't work together or they've hit a bad patch, we must do something. We do miss Clevercloggs, we need to be in for him next year again or look for a repacement.

I cannot see Mackay being sacked so not going to get all worked up about it but UEA makes some valid points (as usual)...Malky has made more poor signings than good with the limited funds we have (Severin/Travner)

As for decisions...yes we've had bad luck with certain ones but I'm not sure if refs and officials are just a little hacked off with Dyche and Malky shouting in their ears all game?

Sadly berating the ref doesn't always work (only if your a top Premiership boss)

What worried me last night is we changed tactics because Swansea did which made us much worse and ineffective in an attacking sense.

Totally pointless having Hoskins on the bench if your not going to use him...might as well put Bryan on.

70% of Prem managers fail to get their clubs into Europe each season; 87.5% of Cham managers fail to get promoted, as do 87.5% of Div 1 managers and 83.3% of Div 2 managers.

Given that managers who win things or get promoted rarely get sacked (except at Real Madrid, obviously), it seems that people are looking to replace Malky with somebody equally unsuccessful, but who has failed more times.

Elton once hired a 28-year-old manager - how daft was that?

    Great post, totally agree.

I was in favour of Malky getting the job, and until Christmas he was doing an incredible job!

Since then our form has been nothing short of shocking! 3 wins in 17 is relegation fodder! Even P'Boro have a better record than that!!

His subsitutions, his tactics and his pre-recorded post match interviews are really starting to annoy/worry me!

He basically admitted last night that Sousa had the better of him, and we couldn't throw anything back at him to counter it! He's out of his depth, IMO.

Teams have sussed us out, and now we're panicking and lumping the ball forward to HH and DG!

We are playing like a Boothroyd side just before he got sacked! No ambition, no style, aimless hoofball and players that don't give a sh*t.

Malky wouldn't dare drop his mate Demerit, so we're basically f**ked!

Oh and for the record, if Malky was to go, i'd like to see one of the following in charge:

    Sir Nige
    Kenny Jackett
    Gary Johnson
    Andy Hess

    I agree with you PYA.

Gibbs has no managerial experience so why throw him into the job ahead of Malky?

Jackett has done pretty well at Milwall but as PYA has said, I doubt we could get him. I don't see how he would be a better choice over Malky as well.

Johnson is doing a pretty poor job at Bristol, their fans are getting on his back, he has a good squad there and they are only in 12th and just 6 points away from us with a bigger budget and a bigger squad. Why would he do better here with smaller resources if that's all he can do with what they have there?

Hessenthaler is doing quite good at Dover but I would rather him be at a bigger club before even looking at appointing him in the future.

None of these options IMO are better than Malky. He's doing a very good job with the resources available to him. He has a squad with almost no depth to it, he's had to deal with the departures of many first team players (Williamson,McAnuff,Cork,Priskin,Smith and Rasiak), and we have been on the verge of administration.

Through all this he's managed to get us with a points tally exactly the same as last season, with a worse squad. We've seen some good football, some great wins and lots of hard-work from the players who Malky has instilled a fighting spirit into.

Recently some of his subs and team selections have been a little frustrating but I think the job he's done overall here has been very good.

All of those that want Malky out are as bad the QPR owners.

    What are you on about?

How can you explain the pi$$ poor substitutions last night? Losing 1-0 at home and he leaves two strikers on the bench and brings on defenders and midfielders!!

He's lost the plot. Same old excuses after the game. I'm getting bored with it. At least Aidy and Todgers admitted when we deserved to get beat! They never went on about refereeing decisions etc!

He's taking us to the bottom three, very quickly!

I was spot on when I said we'd stay up last season, and I am convinced we'll be relegated this season along with P'Boro and Plymouth!

Can we afford to go down financially!? No!

The one bit of credit I will actually give Simpson was when he had the balls to sack Lewington at the crunch end of the season, when we were going the same way we are now! It paid off, because we stayed up!

I like Malky as a person, I think he was a great defender...he'll probably end up a good manager to one day, but not at the moment. We have a very inexperienced side, and we need an older head in there to steer us clear and get us playing again!

As for my choice of managers. Gibbs has been a coach far longer than Mackay has, and has experience of working under GT and Steve Coppell.

Jackett did a good job at Swansea, and is currently doing so at Millwall too.

Gary Johnson worked wonders at Yeovil, and on the whole has done a very good job at Bristol City. Yes he may have gone a bit stale, but he probably needs a change of scenery. Happens to a lot of managers.

Hess has worked under big restricitions at Gillingham, and has served his apprenticeship in non-league football. He deserves a chance.

Would love Malky to suceed as think hes a top bloke and loyal to Watford etc. Like others say though hes a bit out of his depth judging by the decisions he makes at crucial times in matches. Clearly (due to funds I imagine more than anything) hes been rushed through the player to manager transition, with not much coaching experience in between. At least with someone like Gibbs hes had a good 7 years (?) as coach/assistant under different managers at Watford and Reading.

I think the board would only sack Malky if they were certain he was going to take us down, which maybe they'll start thinking about if we lose to Posh on Saturday. Personally I reckon we'll stay up, and if so I'd be happy to keep Malky in for next year, give him til xmas and see where we're at. I can see the comparison to Gordon Brown, an unconvincing Scott who knows his stuff but isn't quite cut out to be a leader. I thinks its also fair to say (like Gordon Brown) when becoming leader he's inherited alot of **** and with the money available there a limited amount he can do about it, its a **** poor squad hes got to select from, however that doesn't excuse the crazy team selection and substitutions at times.

This whole Malky Out business is kneejerk... A bit of knee and a lot of jerk...

Anyone knows that sacking a manager when the chips are down doesn't guarantee success... Malky's made a few bad decisions and we're on a bad run. I cannot comprehend how some can find that a basis to sack someone... really, really poor IMO...

As for some of the names mentioned as a potential replacement in this thread, I shudder at the logic employed to conjure their monikers from the tactical void they currently inhabit. Madness...

Get behind Malky. He and the team needs it... It's called 'support'...

I'm rather disappointed in a lot of comments this week from certain people I previously held in very high regard on this forum...

I'd say both Aidy and Todgers had worse decisions go against them when they were here...especially Aidy! Ghost goal anyone?

I have changed my opinion on the back of two shocking 'performances' away at two of the worst sides in the division...Barnsley and Derby! Two places we should be taking a minium of 4 points! We didn't even manage a goal in either game!

I thought our home form will see us through, but we don't even look dangerous anymore, and we are intent on hoofing it aimlessley. We've run out of ideas, and we've been sussed out!

Maybe Malky would have made some forward substitutions if he'd had better options than Hendo, who I've given up on, and Hoskins, who has no football brain at all.

Arguably Watford shouldn't have let Sordell go out on loan when we've so few options up front, but I've seen too little of him to know whehter he's up to it yet. Same with Bryan.

You wouldnt say anything else would you ? Youre tongues so far up Mckays arse its scary. Where the fark do you get 'instilled a fighting spirit into' ? Team selection a little frustrating ? The blokes a rabbit caught in the farking headlights, clueless, his post match comments were recorded back in December.

Why play a farking predominantly right footed left back eh clever clogs ?
Why continually play a forward combo that has no pace ?
Why chuck your best centre back up front in the vain hope he might get his head to a ball ?
Why switch your best central defender from central defence to right back cos an ol mate comes back from a self inflicted injury ?
Why drop your best right back to accomadate your best central defender ?
Why continually play a centre back who doesnt perform cos he doesnt want to get injured cos he wants to play in the World Cup ?
Why sign a player that cant play cos hes injured ?
Where the fark is Travener ?
We're so skint we can waste money cant we ?
Why sign Mcginn ? One eye on League one perhaps ?
Why continually play Ellingshyte as sub or from the start when he couldnt trap wind ?
Why continually persist with a formation (4-4-2) when you havent won for god knows how many games and points are vital ?
    Why not switch tactics ?

Yesterday was complete embaressment and nothing less.

Continual lack of ambition and the same old excuses Nak. And the same old hand up Mckays arse worjking his mouth. He is clueless.

    (a) Glenn Roeder, until the summer on a short term deal with an option to extend if it works out. A man of experience and held in high regard in the football world and has been here before so would in my guestimation be more likely to come.

    (b) Hodson for Mariappa, Mariappa for Demerit, Hoskins for Helguson, Jenkins for Eustace. 4-4-1-1 with Hoskins dropping off Graham a little. Helguson as the impact man from the bench. The loan market is just about still open so it may be worth seeing if there's a natural left back of any calibre available somewhere to replace the joker we currently have there.

    (c) All those things are pitiful excuses. There are teams worse off or at least no better off in nearly every regard in this division. To suggest any of those things is a viable reason to accept relegation is bonkers. Any romantic ideal that we'll rise from the ashes with Malky at the helm is so far wide of the mark I fear you won't realise it until we're in the League 1 relegation zone next March.

And when does Doyley's form dip Nak? Like clockwork it's whenever his place in the side is assured as it is now. His standard is very average at the moment. Coupled with the fact he can play a decent pass or cross the ball (or, on yesterdays showing, throw it in either) he's a massive waste of space for a man who has 250 starts at this level and above to his name. There can't be many players in this division with that much Championship experience you'd not want in the team but I reckon he's one of them.

  34. wfc4ever

    wfc4ever Administrator Staff Member

TBF if Doyley's so rubbish and usless at getting forward/passing why are the likes of Cowie always giving him the ball rather than using their own ability to get down the line and crossing?

Lack of confidence...players not wanting the ball?

The worrying thing at the end was that the only play who looked composed on the ball coming forward was Taylor!

Hodson is the best attacking full-back but some wanted him dropped due to poor defending...well its not really got a lot better.

  35. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Cowie looks absolutely devoid of confidence or purpose. He's totally lost on the pitch.

I actually never said Doyley was rubbish at getting forward - he does that quite well. Better than Mariappa on the right in fact.
