Spot on. You could tell they were fed up with the silence and got going!! But it was great to see the Rookery rocking again. More of that next week please!!
The band helped to create a special moment with Kightly's goal. It was almost like watching a film in real life with music adding to the action. Was quite bizzare and will last long in the memory. It was great to see the legendary Ross Jenkins at half time also.
What is disappointing me is the fact that everyone coming on here saying Doncaster were rubbish (or worse) - we can only play what is put in front of us, and I thought we did really well today, we just seemed to hem them into their own defensive third for large parts of the game - our harrassing often goes un-noticed and I'd like to think we (Watford) were the reason they couldn't get out and play. They caught us cold just after half time and when they scored, you could see it was on the cards, but we stepped it up and got back to pushing them back and even before the red card, they were hanging on - I could see we would win the game, maybe not by as many goals as we ended up getting, but I think we did excellently today. Not many teams have come here and played us off the pitch (West Ham stand out), so I think today we got the result some of our recent performances have warranted - well done lads! If Dychey hasn't got the Malky syndrome and the results in the second half of the season match the first, we'll be doing just fine...
A decent & much needed result against a team that, bar a minor miracle, are proballey going down this season. In all honesty I dont think that we actually played that well at all until the sending off and even then we werent as good as we where against Leeds or Cardiff. Having said that though, bar the first 10/15 mins of the 2nd half, we where the better side imo. The first half was flat, scrappy & fairly lifeless affair which had all the hallmarks of a goaless boredraw until Sordell scored his first. Second half was much better. Having said that I thought the team worked hard and certainly deserved the win. All four goals were taken well. Both Hodson & Hogg impressed again. Donny for their part, are an odd side. As other posters have already said, Doncaster have a decent side when their players are taken as individuals. Collectively as a team though, theres nothing there. The most worrying thing from a Donny persepctive is that there are too many players seemingly doing nothing more than just 'going through the motions'. Edit: forgot to mention the band. As per their last visit, really enjoyed them today & the banter between them/harry/the fans. Would love to see them at the vic again next season.
Are you off your rocker mate the band were excellent! Also I knew we'd win when Doncaster walked out the tunnel wearing blue
I will not post much. I am not as clever as some as regards the cutting edge of replies. I observe from a distance and my login name may remind others of the pedigree of supporting the Hornets. I post to say that as a (very) long term fan who now sits in the UR how we should always take a medium term view of those that are chosen to lead our team through thick and thin. Today was hopefully a realization of what can be achieved if you have faith in what has been created when EJ and GT got together back in the 70's. I watch our team and observe what goes on in these forums. We have had and continue to enjoy a fantastic return on what we see for a community of our size. Happy New Year . COYH
I recognise your moniker - that does take me back to the gold old days of the rookery and 'knees up mother brown' et al! Totally agree with your sentiments, well said and welcome!
All our performances look scrappy and look poor because we are so effective at breaking up play. When is the last time an opposition managed to carve us open with a flowing attacking move? There haven't been many. We win the ball constantly, literally all the time. Opposition teams don't have more than a second or two on the ball before being closed down. Every single team we have played have called their performance the 'worst of the season' and called us the 'worst team they have played this year'. Considering we are eight games unbeaten and have lost one in twelve or whatever, I find that very unlikely. We might not use our possession well enough, but we don't let the opposition do anything with it either.
Agree completely. Last season our defensive efforts were poor, Dyche has managed to turn that around and make us very hard to break down. Obviously we are struggling to score, but watching Sordell yesterday you could see the confidence flowing back into his game. He was simply outstanding for the final 20 minutes he was on. I really hope he remains confident and stays until the end of the season. Bring on the second half of the season!
Have to agree, Sordell played a blinder today even without the goals, was ever so impressed with him after his recent timid outings. Link up play was fantastic, won a lot of balls, won a lot of headers and wasn't afraid to shoot. On top of that, two cracking finishes from him put the icing on the cake. Very pleased to see him look confident in his own ability again, hopefully he can springboard into a run of goals now.
I think that penalty against Leeds may have actually helped him a lot, he seems to be working hard now and his all round game seems on the up.
One big reason for that is Jon Hogg who has been the best central midfielder we've had here since Jack Cork. I really like the Hogg/Buaben combination has a whiff of Jonno/Hyde or Taylor/Jackett about it. Another reason is that both Yeates and Kightly tuck in when we don't have posession, which is something that Forsyth couldn't do, and left ****inson exposed.
I'm usually a Rookery resident but was sat in the Corporate seats for this one. I thought the YO did a good job and that the atmosphere was good given that there were only 500 or so Donny fans.
Either your memory is playing tricks or mine is. I'm sure the last time they were here was three years ago - at the cup match v Scunny? They must be fans of teams from South Yorks and North Lincs !!
They cannot expect a team full of players giving 100% if they keep buying "loan" players each week that probably are only playing for a move and some dosh. Had some decent results in recent games and not the worse team we've played BEFORE the sending off..
A decent write up on the game here.. http://www.itsroundanditswhite.co.u...oncaster-rovers-1-a-watford-fans-perspective/ Ive never come across that site before.. but will be checking it out in the future.
