There’s a deadline of 24 July to comment on the “consultation “ that’s rolling in from Hertfordshire County Council for imposition of a 20mph limit from the Ring Road to the end of Whippendell Road (which will speed bumped!), including all of Vicarage Road, Hagden Lane and the roads around Watford Underground Station on that side of Cassiobury.

It’ll be slower and bumpier to get to the hospital and matches.

Safety over speed. With a loit of people leaving or arriving at the ground with young children slowing down the traffic is never a bad idea. However, obsessive speed bumps in places they are not really needed will always be seen as overkill.

Crazy, it will make emergency access that much slower, could cost lives. Then there's the impact on hospital access too.

I find with speed bumps is that on the join between the bump and the road surface, pot holes are more likely to appear due to an increased amount of force applied to the edge of the bump and water eventually collects, which when frozen and thawed multiple times causes a weakening. See the state of Leavesden High Road or Gammons Lane for details.

  5. Good. Ambulances and buses can straddle speed bumps if that is an objection. Otherwise, traffic is pretty busy most times on those roads, and you are either accelerating or slowing most of the time. The amount of time you spend in the 20-30 mph zone on most of those roads is probably less than 30% - I reckon you would lose maybe 30 seconds travelling between Ricky road and the Vic, at the outside. And looking at the plans, the only areas that could potentially suffer from slower ambulance times are within 2 minutes of Watford General anyway.

  6. If you look at the plans, there are 4 humps and two raised tables. That's all.

Sorry - 4 raised tables, missed the one at the start of Cassiobury Park Avenue which should always have had one being a school rat-run, and the far end of Whippendell Road by the Morrisons roundabout. I reckon it will make life a lot more pleasant for the good folks of West Watford (apart from those with Murcialagos whose spoilers will scrape, obvs.)

Absolute bo**ocks. How many people have been injured on that stretch in the last 5 years? What about 11PM at night? Don't the people that make such decisions make our lives miserable enough already with the unrepaired potholes / temporary lights that aren't programmed correctly / ring road lights / etc etc.
    Fight it.

Since when have you ever been able to do more than about 10mph when it's busy round there, especially when the footy kicks out.

Speed bumps cause unneccesary wear and tear on vechicles, the road surface and cause emmisions to go up due to accelerating & breaking.
Speed indicator signs and speed cameras are what is needed to solve speeding issues and they're a darn sight cheaper.

Should ask Deeney. If his Lambo struggles to go over it, it needs to go i’m afraid.

Does this mean I can't go for a burn-up round the one-way system anymore?

Is this the council trying to get people to drive to the hospital via Thomas Sawyer Way (or whatever it's called)?

Yes they are. They call it an expressway from the M1 to the hospital.
Then they set the lights by B&Q to stay red for 3 minutes at a time.

Amazing how there's always plenty of tarmac going to build speed bumps, but never enough to fill potholes.

Why would they fill in nature's speed bumps?

This is going to massively affect my ability to speed away from matches after we've gone 2-0 down.

    Against!
