2009 L.A. Galaxy: palpably underwhelming?

I know of someone who had some money on that at 2-2 and some money on that and another game to finish as a draw (that was on as a double).

MLS ref's are terrible. The game should have been 1-1, but there were two "offsetting" PK's, one for a dubious handball which Donovan converted, and one for a dubious takedown in the box which RSL converted. "Offsetting calls" are both the hallmark and pock on the face of American sporting. I hate it.

Strangely enough, the usually HORRIBLE ref, one Michael Kennedy, had a very clean game up to the PK's. I was about to say to myself, "Self? You were wrong to think so badly of MLS refs."...but in the end I was proven right.

True story...I have my first away game road trip starting tomorrow.
Headed up to Seattle with 80-100 others for the Sunday match against the Sounders.

Drew Carey, who is a shadow backer of the LA Riot Squad, bought into the Sounders as an owner. He made a bet with Tommy, one of the old LARSers, that if the Galaxy won, Drew would buy us beer for each home game. If the Galaxy lose, Tommy has to dye his hair Sounders green...

In short, lots of beer is at stake...

Freddie Ljungberg is a godd am hippy who needs to get a haircut.

    The ref was the MOTM.
Finally some crap calls go in our favor, plus some good ones. The Sounders played a sloppy game and got carded a lot. Dissent was a common call.

    aholes

    1-1

Drew Carey doesn't have to buy us beer and Tommy doesn't have to dye his hair green...until the next game.

    Legendary road trip though.
    Exquisite drunken debauchery.

Too bad fan...we had a hell of a time.

I am just about to make my way to the airport now.

    Seattle is a great town...

Worst thing about being a Galaxy fan:
knowing the rumors about Thierry Henry coming to your team may be closer to truth than most, and that if he actually did, it would just make things worse.

He's here now, like Crissy Ronaldo. Henry was spotted watching a friends kid's team practice anonymously at a park in LA...only here could Thierry Henry be anonymous.

Anyway, I'm not saying he will come to the Galaxy now, but maybe 2 years later...not very far fetched at all, given AEG's insatiable need to suck the blood of the star starved losers.

Two years from now, he'll be a shadow of himself, and will be the last the Galaxy need to succeed in the MLS.

Maybe when he comes back you may win a game. Wouldn't that be exciting?

We won last week. On the Road. Without Donovan.

Arena has done this year what Yallop was supposed to do in 2006, and that is prepare the team so that Beckham can fit in and help. Still, he has to come ready to play, unlike his last 6-10 matches in a Galaxy uniform.

No matter what happens, his return is going to be ugly.

I'm hopeful and expectant about Chris "me mum" Birchall playing in July. Mark Haskins (South African) will be a nice pick up for us, too.

Do the american people like him?

When I was there last year everyone knew who he was so I thought he must be a bit of a celeb in the USA now. Heard quite a few Galaxy fans hate him as he blatently wants to stay at Milan.

Nobody cares about him as a footballer.

Everyone here knows him as a celebrity. He may as well be a singer for a kind of music you don't listen to, or a like a daytime soap opera star. You know who he is, but really nothing about why you know who he is.

People who like him as a footballer are those who only watch european soccer because 'it's superior'. There is that type and most of the rest of us think of them as douchebags. Sort of maybe like people who live 3 blocks from Vicarage Road yet follow Liverpool.

Those of us who do follow domestic soccer typically despise him, unless you hate the LA Galaxy so much, anything that is a disaster for them makes you happy. However, MLS fans tend to put the success of the league before other factors, so we Galaxy fans get quite a lot of symapthy.

I thought the Galaxy was view upon the same way as most americans view the Dallas Cowboy? Love the cheerleaders - hate the team for their arrogance.

That is true among people who are aware of both sports. Here in the USA a maximum of 20% of the people even comprehend the basic rules of soccer...

Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.

Sure thing...it really doesn't do much good for Beckham's image, does it?

I wonder if he had any idea a book would be written blasting him when he signed AEG's contract...?

It will be very interesting to see how he handles his return.
He is ideally suited as a personality for coming clean, soldiering on and winning the people back over...

Something tells me however, he will miss the whole thing and end his time here despised.

I think he'll try to keep away from all the speculation from the book, keep his head down and try to 'let his football do the talking', etc, but I don't think the fans will take to him at all. I think he'll be in for a bit of stick.

Do you think he'll end up going out on loan somewhere else in the near future to try and keep up his fitness ahead of WC 2010?

He'll most likely finish the season and bolt...probably back to Milan.

I don't give a flippin fluck where he goes to if I can be perfectly honest about it. I tried to be open minded about him, and was proud of his effect on the English team when he came on to seal a few wins in the past, but I'm over it now.

Fitz - a Danish super League club has just bought Yura Movsisyan, from Real Salt Lake. DO you know if he's any good?

And Everton have signed someone from some Valencia Beach outfit, which seems a bit of a step up. Why haven't I seen his name around if he's good enough for them, considering he's 22, so must have come through the college system.

Bet you it's an Albert Jarrett type player. Flatters to deceive on trial - turns out a lump of shyte.

Movsisyan has done well as a backup and occasional starter in the MLS.

We'll see how he does in the 'mark...

Seems like just yesterday I was verbally abusing him here at the Home Depot Center...actually it was two weeks ago. Movsisyan has done well as a backup and occasional starter in the MLS.

We'll see how he does in the 'mark...

I agree...a friend operates a competitor team to Peterlin's Ventura County Fusion, and he indicated a player on his team who is still in school at UCLA "ran circles around him". It's true US scouts are crap at talent assessment, but I think this is a case where the kid's agent probably did more to secure the signing than the kid did. I wish him luck but will not be surprised in the least when he flops.

    PS Jovan Kirovski anyone?

Since we are off topic, how about Gooch to AC Milan?

Was surprising to say the least I was all ready for Ajax to sign him and then ac Milan. Well at least i might see him in the world football classic thingy

My first thought was "he'll never get a game". My second thought was "I doubt he's good enough and not playing will hurt the USMNST (or whatever the abbreviation is).

Having said that - the lure of playing for the rossoneri would always be too big to turn down. And he'll become a better footballer for it skill-wise. And maybe just maybe he can force his way into the team - you'll never know.
