when will people realise that football is very much a money orientated game these days and to get the so-called prem class players you need to pay prem class wages, our budget will not allow for that unfortunately, and all the prem class players that are in the other teams such as chelsea and man utd cut their teeth in spanish italian french and argentine football, we have prem class players who just dont realise it yet!! Ashley Young for one!
I know that in a short time we will lose Ashley to one of the big clubs, he has already caught the eye of Alex ferguson, who has said he is very hard to handle! We also have Ben Foster who is a Man UTD player but cut his teeth in the championship... all that is needed for them is experience, at least we are in a position to give them that experience and hopefully along the way they will repay us with points!

I think it has been tricky to tempt top quality players in the last transfer windown. No-one wanted to take the risk of going down as all the pundits had predicted.

Hopefully we can drag ourselves out of the relegation zone by Xmas and will be able to tempt some more quality to sign, thats not taking anything away from the squad of players we have who all put in 110%, I'd still like to see a defender or 2 and a couple of strikers.

Dont forget Foster only has a one season on his contract with Man U after this one. If They can't promise him the number 1 shirt he may want to stay with us, I'm sure a sensible offer would be tabled.

i hope so... if we can stay in the prem which i am sure we will we would be contenders for his signature i would think... he loves everything about the club so why not?

The first thread ever started on this forum - seems strangely appropriate!

I hope we can keep Ashley Young and Ben Foster.

Hornmeister still posting away I see!

I take it not everyone's gone back to school yet? (I'm kidding)

Seriously though, I actually feel a little more secure this year than the previous campaign, even though survival isn't necessarily a guarantee.

    Compared to 2006/7

Last time we were in the premiership it took us 10 games to get to 6 points (6 draws) we have reached the same number of points in half the number of games.

Incidentally we won the 11th game, one of our 5 wins, total number of draws was 13 = 28 points

Things are looking good this season

  10. The big difference for me is in 99 and 06 we looked totally out of our depth. This time we look like a good mid table side.

Yes the thought did cross my mind in the first half yesterday when we all,of the possession that games in the two previous PL seasons were similar and the away side just broke away and scored with a chance against the run of play, I was praying it wouldn't happen yesterday and thankfully it didn't

A neutral watching yesterday would probably have commented that Swansea wouldn't score if the ref played 120 minutes of stoppage time. It was only because we needed the win that we felt nervous. Apart from a spilled shot, which Gomes recovered, I don't think they really came close.

In previous seasons, Swansea would've stepped on the gas after our goal and the red and we'd have lost that. We're at a different level. It might not be easy, but it's not yhe impossible dream it was before. We have a squad full of players with experience of playing in the top divisions, with a handful of players with none, but all the talent to do so. Before, we were very much a championship side, punching in the premier league.
