I am not comparing them in the 'muddled, getting away from the point' way that you describe. I was merely stating that top strikers can be caught offside too. It's unfortunate when it happens, but it can happen.

Hey, I’m not the one comparing him to Top 6 international strikers. It’s kinda hard to understand your points when you make such ridiculous comments.

Every player is capable of missing a chance. Doesn’t make Gray any better of a player though so it’s a completely aimless point you’re making.

Go back to watching games on SSN or teletext and deluding yourself further.

Short for expected goals. It's some nonsense metric that was dreamed up by a joyless nerd in his bedroom. Football hipsters love it, and its even more ridiculous cousin XA, expected assists (obvs).

Watford have created their very own metric. It's xM for Andre Gray. I'll leave you to work out what it means.

Thank you. Do they even bother putting in the data for Gray...

I’d rather he didn’t get into any goal-scoring positions by not playing.

It's a load of ******** that has infiltrated the modern game making everybody an expert. Decent eyesight is all that is required.

I've reached my limit, I'm honestly not going to read that - there is a movement spearheaded by Rolf Dobelli in his book 'Stop Reading the News: A Manifesto for a Happier, Calmer and Wiser Life' that suggests that watching and reading the news is detrimental to your mental health and negatively affects your life. Whilst my natural proclivities almost always prevent me from doing that, in this particular instance I have kept the lesson in mind, and believe that I can successfully apply it.

This does come off very 'old man yells at cloud' with no real justification for doing so, to be honest, and I'm not really sure why more detailed information/analysis about the way a player or team is performing is such a bad thing, nor how it miraculously 'makes everybody an expert'.

Well I don't think we need any stats to show us he isn't up to the standard.

Cue a goal or two tonight!

But I am sure they are useful in terms of seeing how fit players are and miles run etc.

Do you need xG to know Gray isn’t very good?

Stats can be good, but can also be meaningless.

Well that’s the problem. We still have mindless people continuing to defend Gray.

Every single stat we can find that confirms what most people see with their eyes is something to cherish in this epic struggle against the misfiring evil that is Andre Gray

Seems a waste of time to me. Surely its just as easy to write
    Barnsley at home
    Excellent chances - 3
    Goals scored - 0

I will check the highlights again but I seem to recall the first effort was a nice layoff from Gray, good movement to collect the ball, **** first touch pushing him wide and a shanked left foot effort.
Second I can forgive. Great ball from Sema to find his run and an instinctive shot.
Third was just embarrassing. Great run to get in position but never looked capable of finishing it. This is me being overly kind. If he possessed a first touch he could of taken a touch inside and placed into a near empty net. It's an inability to control a football that has baffled me since he joined us.
It doesn't matter what I think because I'd totally given up on him after Newcastle away when he showed his non league ability.

That I can agree with, and I certainly do not, but at the same time they do also confirm and give us further explanation of/evidence for how and why he isn't very good/is sickeningly disgraceful - some people would claim that to be subjective, but the stats are something we can hold up objectively to show them the truth!

I hear a lot of "he gets in good positions " . Does he ?
The back post is where a striker should be as defenders are always
attracted to the ball ( the danger) . If Sarr , for example , is heading down
the right and into the box the defenders will look to block the shot/cross shut down
space etc between the ball and the goal . A natural fox in the box will head away
from the traffic out of defenders eye lines looking to tap one in at the back stick.
Aguerro is a master at tapping in , un marked from 2 yards out .

  28. Carpster

Strange that. I got to play a fair standard at CF. Each and every one of managers said attack the front post. It certainly worked for me . Getting to the ball first before the defenders for a flick or header.

I'm not too hot on xG and xA etc but I've got a stat, Andre has made 8 starts in the league and missed 9 big chances. 9 chances where he was reasonably expected to score and he didn't. It's not like he just needs one to go in off his backside so he can go on a run either. He's already had his fluke goal and he's immediately gone back to being an utter waste of a shirt.

  30. Davy Crockett

    Davy Crockett Reservist

One near , one far that is correct . A "goalscorer" will want the back post as that is where
the space and goals are . When do ever see Aguerro flicking one on ?.
