Apologies for a more brief preview this week – I see one has already been posted by daib0, but I thought I’d stick this one up anyway.

    Saturday 14th January 2012 @ Vicarage Road. Kick-Off: 5.20pm (Sky Sports 2)

    Reading's Recent League Form: LWWWWL

Watford are still without long-term absentees Stephen McGinn and Martin Taylor. Following the end of the loan spell of Michael Kightly, he has returned to his parent club - Wolves, meaning Craig Forsyth will be in contention for a start against the Royals following his brace in the FA Cup 3rd round 4-2 win over Bradford last weekend. Scott Loach returns from suspension following his red card against Portsmouth on the 2nd January, meaning Dyche will have to choose between Loach and Jonathan Bond, who will make his full home league debut if selected.

WATFORD Starting XI vs Bradford (W 4-2):

    Bond
    Doyley – Mariappa – Nosworthy – ****inson
    Yeates – Eustace – Hogg – Forsyth
    Deeney – Sordell

Subs: Bonham, Thompson, James, Buaben, Jenkins, Iwelumo, Garner

Reading appear to have a relatively full compliment to select from for their journey to Vicarage Road, with ex-Hornets Jobi McAnff and Brynar Gunnarsson likely to be named in the squad.

READING Starting XI vs Stevenage (L 0-1):

    Federici
    Cummings – Pearce – Gorkss – Harte
    Tabb – Leigertwood – Robson-Kanu – McAnuff
    Church – Le Fondre

Subs: Anderson, Mills, Morrison, Gunnarsson, D’Ath, Anonio, Manset

    10/09/11 Reading 0-2 Watford
    19/02/11 Reading 1-1 Watford
    20/11/10 Watford 1-1 Reading
    24/04/10 Watford 3-0 Reading
    26/09/09 Reading 1-1 Watford
    09/01/09 Reading 4-0 Watford

Following such a convincing display earlier in the season away at the Madjeski earlier this season, Watford will be looking to secure 3 more important points at the “fortress” that Vicarage Road seems to have become in recent weeks. With such a strong line-up to choose from with Nosworthy signing permanently, I expect the defensive partnership to remain strong, and Watford to put one or two in at the other end. Watford 2-0 Reading.

Fancy us for this one. Stick with Eustace or bring back Prince? Also Hodson in for Lloyd hopefully!

Looking forward to this as it may be Sordell's last home game, hopefully he brings back Prince and Hodson. I think we may nick this 2-1.

Apparently Reading have quite a few players injured including McAnuff.

This will be a very, very tough game. We've had a few seasons of being interesting on the TV, but we've got off to a bad start with our broadcasted games so far this year with the dullest 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough last year so maybe it'll be shockingly boring.

I really hope we win (obviously).

Loach's ban was only 1-match - served vs Bradford, so i'll ammend that now. Apologies, had a busy one this week!

I can see this one being a 1-1 draw, Yeates to score. Win would be lovely though as a couple of tough away games coming up.

I wonder if Sordell might even play? It seems very common nowdays for managers to leave out players who have been bombarded in transfer speculation. I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't in the squad, but I would be disappointed as he is a good player.

If he doesnt start, I think maybe we should give Garner another go instead of Iwelumo. I also hope Hodson comes back in the team and Buaben because Hogg & Eustace did not work very well at the beginning of the seaon, but who knows they might play wel together now. When is Mcginn back in training by the way?

Back in training but not match fit.

Hopefully the 1st team will do better than the Under 18s have against Reading today!

    I don't see many games.....

But is this really the level of quality produced at Vicarage road every week?

    Absolute toilet!!!

Agreed absolutely disgraceful. So scrappy, hoofing it at every opportunity but as soon as we get the ball on the deck we score. Its clear to see, the tactics used today were WAY off. Think its best to completely forget about this one. Worst performance of the season.

Joke of a result, their winger tries to snap Yeates' leg in half and then creates the equaliser 5 minutes later.

Reading were a disgrace, holding the ball in the corner from 80 minutes onwards, diving for penalties, crowding the ref, never had them down as that sort of side

Neither side deserved to win that game

Absolutely disgraceful performance. Offered nothing. Half of em looked disinterested. Zero quality. Forsyth and yeates should be dropped from the squad permanently. They're not even footballers. ****o poor AGAIN. Deeney awful AGAIN. All were nervy throughout.

Totally unacceptable. Feel sorry for those who qctually went today.

Not good. Terrible style of play. Some of Dyche's signings..Yeates, Forsyth, ****inson etc all looked very poor tonight. And off the bench, while Reading can bring on a striker who wins the game for them, we have the mighty Iwelumo and Garner. That's 5 Dyche signings I've mentioned who have all been average or worse this season. Didn't want Dyche as manager in August and don't want him now. We are very much in the relegation mix..yes, we've become harder to beat of late but that's 6 points out of 18 now.

    Awful game, awful performance.

Reading were crap (and also a pathetic bunch of diving, time wasting c*nts), we were worse.

Forsyth is literally the worst 'winger' I've ever seen play for us, he possesses absolutely nothing that a winger should, he has no pace, no agility, cant dribble for sh*t, can't cross and can't pass. Only thing he seems half decent at is shooting, so either stick him up front and give that a go or try and ship him off to a League Two side where he belongs.

Buaben looked like the only player in the team that had any composure and could pick a pass. Sordell and Deeney offered pretty much nothing up front. Yeates did nothing. Eustace and the back four looked OK overall except ****inson who was poor. Nosworthy reminded me of the Nosworthy I was scared we had signed a few months ago a couple of times.

Desperately, desperately need a pacey, direct winger and in my opinion another striker as at the moment Iwelumo looks like a complete dud and Dyche clearly has no faith whatsoever in Garner.

Well that was awful. I don't like to get on player's backs but Forsyth is one of the worst 'wingers' I've ever seen. He lost his head as well today, should've been sent off for two yellows in the space of 2 minutes, which were largely brought about I think by his own frustration of his poor performance.

Too many players had an off day today. We desperately need a winger with some pace and creativity, loan him in, sign him, whatever but Watford are always at their most shyte when we don't have proper wingers.

Fair play from Dyche, refused to blame the referee post-match, didnt want to take focus from our poor performance

Brave man to do that, Malky would never have said that

Indeed. Their fullback Cummings showed us how to finish in the first half anyway.

We were very poor & got everything we deserved to be honest. We never got going, build up any sort of move or gained any real momentum. Reading were not great in the first-half either but they did get there in the second. We were well-warned beforehand about their ability to come from behind, especially late on but we failed to learn.

I'm not going to go over the top though & start slating Sean Dyche because they are still a side in the Play-Off chase so we can't be too hard on ourselves, it's just a shame when you consider the recent high standards that have been set by this group.

Re. Forsyth, I'm still convinced he will never make it as a winger but as a striker. He is tall, good in the air, can pick a pass & does score goals too. I hope he comes good as a wide player but I've had serious doubts since I first saw him.

Every time we're on Sky, it reminds me why I don't have a season ticket anymore. It's good to get a reminder of it from Sky twice every season. Just thought I'd add that.

No idea what Forsyth is doing in the squad. I echo what others have said, we need a pacey winger who'll do fast work down the wings and to create genuine chances.

We didn't seem at all up for it today and I can't say that's a surprise.

Reading's time wasting in the last 5 minutes was laughably pathetic. No team deserved the win but Reading got it, they were creating much more chances on goal than us and I could feel that a last 5-10 minute goal was coming.

Would have been a different game had deeneys strike 2 mins before their equaliser been either side of the goalkeeper ........

But we were awful this evening, Bauben not creative enough, did the great through ball to Deeney for the goal and that was it. Forsyth tried but was ineffectual. Ref was, once again poor. Nosworthy looked shaking. Hodson was excellent but overall performance was seriously below par.

We missed kightly today, need a couple of top creative players to progress.

How did Robson-Kanu stay on the pitch as well?! Unbelievable Jeff.

Anyway we will win the next one .... against Birmingham ..... who won 6-0 today. Oh.

EDIT - How much did we miss Hogg? Needed him in there just so he could clatter Kebe and break the play up. Need him back next week please!

To be fair, under Malky we were sh!t hot on Sky, beating Sheffield Wendnesday, QPR, Portsmouth etc. very comfortably.

Incredibly unfair. You don't see some of the great performances we put in. When you hear pundits left right and centre talking about how good we have been recently and how we haven't been beaten at home since the palace game, it puts games like tonight behind us. Incredibly naive.

  31. Bubble

    Bubble Wise Oracle

****inson was woeful. Certainly at fault for their winner, and could probably be blamed for their first as well!

Yeates, yet again, was utter gash! Eustace was poor and we really missed Hogg in the middle.

Deeney worked hard, Nosworthy and Mapps did ok and Hodson was fairly solid.

Forsyth has the touch of a rapist and Sordell got no service at all and just had the ball smashed at him constantly!

Very poor, and reminded me of our early season performances! The gaps between our midfield and attackers were massive. Every time we lumped the ball forward, that lanky tw*t Gorkks won it and Karacan swept up the second balls because no one was near him!

I really feel that having Yeates, Forsyth and Eustace in the same midfield is negative as they're all too slow. Reading outpaced us from the start!

Desperately need a striker and two wingers!

The point I was trying to make is that it seems an incredibly boring match day experience and it's saved me hundreds by not renewing my ST.

QPR, Sheffield Wednesday were indeed good matches, and I had my ST back then, so I was happily at the stadium.

Portsmouth match, I wasn't there but I remember watching it on TV.

What's the current state of TYO? Couldn't hear anything but when I was last at The Vic, they were impressive.

The game that I witnessed tonight was on par with the Nottingham Forest home performance, maybe even worse. First of all the ref was a joke, we shouldve at least had a penalty when Sordell was pushed. Secondly the team overall were terrible, Forsyth is not a championship player, maybe hes a League two player at best as he scored 2 against Bradford, ****inson was poor, Yeates poor and I even saw Nosworthy starting to make a few mistakes. On a plus note I thought Loach played well, he seemed to come out for the ball more than usual and called for it too, Deeney was OK, set up our goal which was a fluke. Hpefully Hoggs injury isnt too bad, he is a key player I think we missed today, a lot. But I think one of the main reasons we done so well to get on an 8 unbeaten run was because of Kightly who could actually run at players, had a bit of skill and could score a few, without him today we had zero chnances really. Nevermind, hopefully Dyche will be able to get a winger in otherwise we're in trouble or we could just start Wichelow? The Tottenham games going to be fun

Ouch that was painful, didn't deserve anything and we didn't get anything. Very very bad day at the office, the amount of misplaced passes was unbelievable! Hodson, Mariappa, Prince and Deeney were the only decent ones out there. As said above Marv got no service at all. The left hand side was awful, Forsyth will do something good followed by a poor touch and will Yeates on the opposite side. The only positive really is that what did Loach have to do apart from pick the ball out of the net twice? Defence seems ok (i know that sounds stupid) but going forward we really need to have a good transfer window by keeping Marv and bringing in some quality. Too many poor touches out there today but once your head drops your touch goes I suppose. Anyway onwards and upwards to Birmingham.....

Today was our first home loss since the start of October and our second loss since the start of November. Calling for the manager's head after such great form comes to an end with a last minute win against a team in the play offs is the sort of moronic behaviour that has unfortunately become common place with some of our fans recently. Nice to here from you and the other fans who don't go to games and only base their ill-informed yet strong views on the limited amount of times we are shown on TV anyway.

Both sides were poor today but I suppose Reading were marginally better. The only players that I can say were anything approaching decent were Eustace, Hodson and Forsyth. When he is back I would like to see Hogg partner Eustace in the middle instead of Buaben who was once again ineffectual. Eustace showed today and against Bradford that he can comfortably play in a more advanced midfield role and he definitely looks better there than Buaben has done.
