Watford turn down £38m Shanghai SIPG offer for Odion Ighalo http://gu.com/p/4nbjm?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other We are through the looking glass now.
Surely we wouldn't reject that much for Ighalo? I can't imagine they value him at near that. Maybe they just think they can get more out of the Chinese - if true, of course.
I don't believe it - frankly half that number would buy him - so my bet is that the story is total bo$$ox - either that or Ighalo won't go to China
Gino probably promised WM that our key players would not be sold & he's now keeping good to that promise
I'd imagine Ighalo has little interest in moving to China. Also it could be a heavily structured deal with a much smaller amount up front. It could also be dodgy money and Pozzo wants to avoid deals with the Chinese mega rich clubs!!
This cannot be true! That we have been offered £38m for Igahalo from a Chinese club and we turned it down! No way I don't believe it! As it would be absolute madness if we have :forehead:
In some ways the money is irrelevant. The question is who you can get to come here to replace him. It's all very well having a megabucks offer accepted but if top quality players won't come it won't help us stay up. The new guys look great prospects but not sure any Will score 15+ next season.
What is more relevant is will Iggy regain his MOJO, I have my doubts so I would take the money and run :scared1:
I think that once you know how much "money is irrelevant" the question you then ask, is easier to answer! ;D Personally, I think €38m is twice what we would need to replace him.
Wtf. Sell sell sell. He really isnt that good of a player and cannot see him going on another goalscoring run again. He has been found out. Let Deeney play with someone with more pace and someone who puts more effort in and we will do better.
Anyone else still finding it hard to believe what's happening to little ol' Watford they supported in a 3 sided ground not knowing how many seasons the club had left.. Staggering amount IF true, there will be many factors Pozzo/Ighalo considered so it would never be as simple as us saying thanks but no thanks if this offer has been made.
Ighalo already turned down a big money move to China to stay with us (£300k a week I believe). Even if the figure quoted is true I suspect it is him who is turning this deal down.
I know they're loaded, but this team have spent €100m in the last year, along with paying HUGE wages for Gyan (I think he's on about 250k a week), let alone what they'll be paying Hulk!
I would have taken the money but you can't sell last season's top scorer before Mazzarri has had a chance to work with him. For all we know Mazzarri has asked the club to keep him.
Who would we replace him with who would bag 15 goals and would be happy to come to us? I don't disagree but would feel more comfortable if we have a top class replacement ready to sign on the dotted line before we sell. I fear a summer of lots of impressive offers being made but few quality signings being made. But then I am the eternal pessimist !!
If it's true you have to take the offer... it would be insane not to. With the money, yes it would be possible to bid for some top quality strikers and more than that, have those bids accepted. Berahino, Bony, Lacazette, Brathwaite, Origi etc All within the transfer budget, but all far far far beyond the wage structure. Guessing Iggy is on near £30k/w? Any of the above are going to ask for plus £150k/w. That's a significant departure, and even if was able to be funded, you dont want other players paid half/third/a quarter of this new star man. For 'plucky little Watford' mentality to keep catching teams of guard we need unity and it may benefit us to have some young hungry 'underpaid' (in football terms...) lads to bang a few in. Remember that if Success, Penaranda and Sinclair all chip in 5 each we already have Iggys goals from last year
Someone else put this on the other Iggy thread before that was shut so.... Follow Fabrizio RomanoVerified account @FabrizioRomano @LKenz no. Ighalo accepted the bid: 6€M/season for 5 years! His agent confirmed to me Pozzo turned down
Where do you think most of his goals came from if not for pace and effort? You make him sound like Darius Henderson.
