I mean it's not nonsense, it was pure facts. Just to back that up with some more facts for you - there's a stat called Progressive Passes which is defined as:

"A forward pass that attempts to advance a team significantly closer to the opponent’s goal."

A pass is considered progressive if the distance between the starting point and the next touch is:

    • at least 30 meters closer to the opponent’s goal if the starting and finishing points are within a team’s own half
    • at least 15 meters closer to the opponent’s goal if the starting and finishing points are in different halves
    • at least 10 meters closer to the opponent’s goal if the starting and finishing points are in the opponent’s half
and here's Watfords - Wilmot is not the most accurate of passers, that's a given. He is however the CB that tries to make things happen the most.

Far more "interesting" than just trying to survive each year in the prem. Anything can happen to us in this league over the next 2-3 years.

He rarely takes the easy option, and has a cross field ball that rivals Capoue's. Unfortunately two mistakes have led to two goals, but that's part of the bargain when giving a young player playing time in an unforgiving position.

Definitely got the potential to be a top player in my opinion

It depends what the 5 do. We don't have the creativity of an Abdi (maybe Hughes will be, now fit) and are playing 2 wingers up top instead of a partnership of 2 out-and-out strikers. Hence lots of possession, lots of crosses but few attempts at goal. The last 2 promotion seasons we've had 3 heavy scorers, King/Young/Henderson and Deeney/Vydra/Ighalo and played very attacking football. It's tough to see how we will score enough goals to achieve promotion without playing any out-and-out strikers at all.

Has anyone actually “expressed disappointment when we scored” on shoutbox or is that completely made up? Surely nobody actually is sad when we score?

I agree, so closing down communication outlets for people stuck at home is not a good move, in my opinion. Rather someone calls someone else a **** on shoutbox than silently seethes at home and hits their wife/kids/dog.

Not that this forum is responsible for helping people's mental health.

I must say I’m enjoying this new angle of attack that people who are anti Pozzo have something missing in their lives or lockdown has turned them into world war Z style zombies.

It's become a given to most on here, except it clearly wasn't to you as you'd repeatedly tried to gloss over it or excuse it away.

So in summary, he has the worst passing accuracy for "progressive passes" out of our CBs, in addition to also having the worst passing accuracy for short passes out of all our CBs - so whichever choice he makes on the ball, he's more likely to mess up. Got it.

Short passing accuracy of our CBs:
    Troost-Ekong 91.9%
    Cathcart - 90.4%
    Kabasele - 89.2%
    Wilmot - 83.1%

( He also has the most unsuccessful touches of our CBs - per 90:
    Cathcart 0.3
    Kabasele - 0.6
    Troost-Ekong - 0.6
    Wilmot - 0.8 )

Yes, last night someone had a go at Sarr for spoiling it all in the last minute.

It used to be lots of exclamation marks, smiley's, jumping men, "Yessssss!!!!" etc when we scored. It was obvious to a casual glance we had scored. Now it's ...

"Bout ****ing time, he's done **** all", "
"best cross he's made in his lifetime"
    "Surely that was offside"
"Must have been a deflection for an own goal" One poster argued for about 10 minutes that Pedro shouldn't have been awarded his deflected goal against Luton with the "His shot wasn't on target..." The young lad had just scored an important goal and was celebrating it and Watford fans were trying to take it away from him.

One or two posters disappear when we score only to reappear when the opposition scores, It's actually quite funny in its inevitability.

I'd say 70% of comments are just sarcasm, with no accompanying wit.

But, as I have said, maybe it is what people need, and I'm fine with it as I can just stay out of it and make the odd reference to it in the main forum. But I struggle to think they actually find it fun.

I don't know whether you're purposefully skipping my point or are on a wind-up here. My original point was that Wilmot doesn't have the best passing accuracy as out of our CBs he tries to make things happen the most. You denied this. I backed that up with pass-maps showing that. You shot it down. I now supplied more in depth stats showing that Wilmot tries more progressive passes than anyone in our team....and you revert back to passing accuracy (and even then - he's only 2% less accurate than Cathcart whilst attempting a lot more progressive passes). Christ alive.

Quite amusing that a player with one of the lowest "progressive pass" scores, is Foster.

Don't want to misquote so you'll have to wait until the shoutbox reopens... Think AS covered most of it though

Depends which side of the debate you fall on. Some people lack any humour in their lives so therefore take the 'shoutbox' as the be all and end all. It's the same members who have always been like that, fans at the game or not. Normally as they never went anyway.

I think it was Manatleisure who joined in the fun playing the super positive role. It was a good laugh actually.

What I would add to the current state of the shoutbox is that it’s difficult to follow the game on there at times - Hive Live isn’t actually always ‘live’ and has a delay on it. A few times now some people have said there’s been a goal or a big moment and others footage/audio hasn’t even got that far yet. Most of us who are watching the game and on the shoutbox are at different points of the game - it’s a bit messy really!

Last nights Shoutbox was just a mess all round really due to all the issues in trying to follow it live. I think there was far more anger displayed towards that than there was towards the players last night.

I'm pointing out that it appears whichever type of pass he chooses, he's less likely to be successful with it. He just gives the ball away too much.

It used to be even worse for the delay/different times though. At least with Hive Live it's usually very close to happening in real time (when it's working). With other types of water though they're usually really far behind.

In general, to avoid that issue I mostly avoid the shoutbox except at half time, or I stay permanently scrolled down on the messages so only messages which are already a bit old are visible.

You can still attempt to move the ball forwards in a "risky" way with a short pass though, which brings me back to the original point of how just using pass accuracy alone isn't a good indication of how someone plays. Of course he'll have a lower progressing pass accuracy than Cathcart or Kabasele when he's attempting significantly more risky passes than them. If they matched his numbers I'd be willing to bet that their pass accuracy would also decrease.

I hardly think that saying we can still win the game and we are in a play-off spot, counts as being a "super positive role" considering they were both true.

Good result last night, somehow fourth whilst playing no striker or having a recognised left back at the club. It's not great but it's not bad either. I think we will do ok this season.

I guess it all depends on what we each would deem to be "ok" this season.
On one hand, 4th place and one point behind second is very promising.
But bear in mind without that 93rd minute goal we would be out of the play-off places. We had 3 shots on target, same as Stoke, and scored 3 goals.
It's all very tight and lots of opportunity for improvement. Like playing a striker. Or signing a left back.

Completely agree, the performances have not been great lately but we are grinding out results. I do think we will improve once we have a striker and get Hughes back fully fit. There is definitely room for improvement but we need investment in the right areas. I do think Ivic is the man to take us forward.

I know we all want a ball playing centre half but who is the best at actually defending? who doesn't get beaten too often in aerial duals, doesn't get caught out of position, makes the most successful tackles etc

That '3 goals' doesn't really demonstrate attacking panache. One simply wasn't a goal, one was a pen and one should have been disallowed for handball.

Yes you've got to be in it to win it in the sense that you can't get the breaks if you're not in the box, but we haven't turned into an attacking, free scoring side as a result of some freak refereeing and a penalty.
