Football clubs are a place of work, why should they stop when everyone else has to carry on with just some people off sick? Does the whole of BT shutdown because the head has the virus?
If this season where to be halted, then there should be no immediate reason to make a decision on what to do. The answer is to wait and see if next season can even go ahead, let's assume for example that the all clear is not given until early next year, then the answer would be to cancel 2000/2001 completely and play the rest of this seasons matches to completion then. I know everybody wants answers, but I feel wait and see is the best option for the time being.
From the roomurs around the Internet/people ITK, likely suspension til the next international break when a reevaluation will be done. If what is happening now is the baseline for suspending the league, it's hard to see when it will resume. A lot of joking about cancelling the season but if it doesn't resume by May/June, there will be no other option. This is a serious consideration and apparently well within the PL's remit to do without cause for legal action by Championship clubs. You're only a member when you're invited and the PL don't have to invite you. The EFL will likely follow suit and do whatever the PL does. The PL doesn't have to help out the EFL teams and there is a strong opposition to doing that by the usual suspects due to precedent setting. I'd say its 75% likely that the season is done. It's primarily down to what the big 6 think about where they finish/CL qualification. Man Utd heavily opposed to cancelling the season. I would assume Liverpool are too obviously but not sure.
I’m sure the Premier League can commission a special trophy to keep the scousers happy. It could be three-quarters the size of the normal PL trophy and not completely finished. Plus have a Watford shaped dent in the side.
I would agree to cancelling 2000/2001 altogether. Then I can wipe the memory of that 5-0 defeat at Fulham in the bitter cold.
Is it just me of have the fishal site not put out a "Team News" article for this one? Maybe we have no players.
Everton player reports symptoms of coronavirus More from Everton: "The club is in regular contact with the player in question and is monitoring the wellbeing of all players and staff. "The health, welfare and safety of all Everton players, staff and stakeholders is the Club’s absolute priority. Therefore, the club has taken the decision to close down all Everton workplaces including USM Finch Farm, Goodison Park and its headquarters at the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool City Centre. The Club’s retail store at Goodison Park will also close but its Liverpool ONE store is unaffected and will remain open. "Everton will continue to adhere to UK Government and Public Health guidelines with regards to the closure of its facilities and wellbeing of staff and will be discussing next steps with regards to upcoming fixtures with the Premier League on Friday morning. "Further updates will be provided in due course, including guidance relating to forthcoming fixtures." Just gets worse and worse.
Oh god. We line up with a 1-0-0 formation against Leicester's 0-0-0. Mapps scores a late own goal. League suspended. Watford down on goals scored.
I will be absolutely astonished if poor old Danny Welbeck doesn’t end up catching it. The same goes for our Matty James.
I was going to say that you missed the part when Mariappa misses a penalty but we don't get penalties as we aren't a big club.
Moog's place. He's hosting one of his famous BBQ's like he did after the Palarse game last season. Guest of honor will be Moog Alias's 2 and 3. (Cleyhorn and RookeryDad) EDIT: This is a response to @Cassetti's Beard post.
The whole of the Everton squad have been put in isolation now. Not sure what the Premier League are waiting for
Nige on SSN says squad have been ill all week and basically we haven't trained. No indication that the Telegraph story was right and that they were meant to do a team building day yesterday but cancelled it and sent everyone home. Guess that's what Daft Row heard. Basically, call off the game, we're in a ropier state than Leicester. I don't want their fans mocking our sickness too.
Nigel didn't say that, he said some players were unwell but not coronavirus, however there is one player who is waiting for test results. Training has been disrupted and the players were told to stay at home yesterday.
What like last week? Replicating such a shoddy performance after such a great one is never beyond this teams capabilities.
Several Watford players reported feeling unwell yesterday. Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea squads in self isolation. The PL officials look like the greatest procrastinators in sporting history. The government should be ordering a suspension, in the public's interest. This will pass, but the damage can be limited. This time next year there will be enhanced treatments and vaccinations.
Does anyone know people that have the virus or self isolating? It seems the football related people have been hit more than the general population. Why have these young and fit people been effected more than the general population?
Looks like at 11am they are going to announce a suspension of the league (and I assume EFL too) until at least 4th April.
More likely to be tested than the general public, which suggests that the figure for the number of people that actually have it is many multiples of the confirmed figure.
Posted in the other thread, but found out yesterday someone I have been in regular contact with this week in self-isolating with full blown symptoms I am fine so far but WFH today and keeping an eye on things over the weekend As others have already said, the lack of testing is the only thing keeping the numbers down, I suspect we are closer to 5k (maybe even 50k!) than we are to the official 500 in terms of nationwide infections
This season is due to be "paused" imminently. Restart again in August and played over 4 weeks. Play-offs scrapped. 3rd place direct promotion from Championship etc 2020-2021 Season then to start two weeks later in late September. You heard it here first.
Play offs scrapped sounds like a decent idea but how would you determine things in four weeks around the CL and relegation?
