Pereyra is to much of a luxury player, as we all know he can be world class at times, but that is the problem it is only at times, most of the time he is virtually anonymous on the pitch. Therefore I will shed no tears if we sell him, and IMO we definitely should.
We’re in the Cup Final & finished the most comfortable of comfortable mid table. Unless we’re aiming for CL, do CBs matter that much?
Supposedly Duxbury isn't too worried about selling any of our players, as long as it's on our terms: https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...epart-in-summer-transfer-window-a4144196.html It's also suggested that he agrees only about 1 in 3 of their signings are hits, and that this is a pretty good achievement given the market. Hopefully this means he likely understands that Sema and Masina have rather been misses. It also underlines a point I've made in a couple of threads that it's a good idea for us to bring in players for some positions a season or so before they may be required to be regulars, so they can acclimatise and we can check they're actually up to it. This is especially relevant right now to the CM and LB positions in future. Fulham and Brighton have been examples this season of the pitfalls of trying to integrate lots of first team players new to the league in one go, while requiring that most of them will be hits and ready straight away.
I think so. Stoke could have made the same comment a couple of years back. You can’t be complacent in this league.
I find these threads a bit depressing. All these ideas about selling fees, who we'd sign as replacements etc. We know that we will sell one or two of our better players this summer and replace them with cheaper players who are not as good. The squad won't be stronger next season than it was this season. Hopefully we will have enough to steer clear of any serious involvement in a relegation battle.
Not if you listen to Duxbury and his BBC Website interview. Wants to get to the final regularly, qualify for the Champions League etc. Worrying.
Indeed. Knowing this I will substitute my "Gracia will be sacked in October when we are in the bottom 6" with "Gracia will be sacked in September when we are only 11th".
Sell: Deulofeu Deeney Chalobah Cathcart Doucoure Hughes Femenia Wilmot Holebas Foster Capoue Mariappa Cleverley Success Masina Penaranda Gray Quina Navarro Kabasele Bachmann Gomes Janmaat Britos (release) Prodl Sema Dahlberg Hoban (release) Okaka Pereyra Foulquier Zeegelaar Lukebakio Sinclair Folivi (loan) Jakubiak Stuparevic Hernandez
Players to leave the club: - Navarro - Does not look like he's going to make the grade. Zeegelaar - As Navarro. Prodl - Been a great servant for the club, but it's now time to say thank you and good bye. Britos - I would like to keep him, but apparently he wants to leave. Hoban - Unfortunately has not lived up to his early potential, mainly because of injury, so reluctantly I it's time to go. Pereyra - Brilliant at times, but to much of a luxury player as far to inconsistent IMO, time to cash in on him. Sinclair - Has not lived up to potential IMO, time to off load him if we can. Success - Does not look like he is going to make the grade at PL level, so I would off load him. Players I am unsure about: - Sema - Not sure what to do about him, maybe give him a chance and if he does not improve offload in January? Penaranda - Make or break season for him as you have to ask why he has not featured much this season? Okaka - Some positive feed back has been coming back from Udinese, and I see him as possibly a better backup striker than Success, so maybe he could fill his role, but if not, again I would try to off load in January. Chalobah - I am very worried that he is not going to be the player he was, down to his injury. He seems to have recovered physically, but I am not so sure he has mentally, as he seems to often shy away from tackles. Hopefully I am wrong and a good pre-season will bring back his Mo-Jo, but if not I would consider trying to cash in on him in January.
I think it’s going to be hard to shift Prodl, Okaka and Zeegelar. They are on a decent whack with a few years to run and not sure anyone would match even if they were given away for free.
While I understand fans frustrations with Pereyra (I share them and would also let him go IF he is refusing to commit to a new deal), I do think partially his form can be explained by the complete lack of competition for his and Hughes' place in the team. They need pushing and without a 'Plan B' formation, they are on easy street. Neither Sema or even Peneranda could be classed as direct replacements. If finances and circumstances allow, we should be looking at bringing in quality competition for these players, not replacing them.
Fair comment about Hughes and Bobby. You only need to look at Holebas and to some extent, even Capoue to see the impact that genuine competition for places inspired.
Would think he would stay at Udinese at the very least. It’s clear that Gracia didn’t want him and neither have the managers before him so he has zero future here. Same for Zeegelaar who was just a ridiculous waste of money.
Both Okaka and Zeegelaar have done well for Udinese, especially Okaka. Would be great for us to work out something with them two staying and us getting Lasagna.
But Okaka outperformed him in half the time last season? Lasagna scored six goals in 26 starts and 9 sub appearances. Don’t we need better than that? If we are doing a trade, we should want Rodrigo de Paul.
I've been looking at the contract situation and have highlighted the players approaching the final 2 years of their contract. These are the players that the club would need to offer new deals to or sell. Gomes, Britos, Segura & Hoban - contracts expire on 30/06/2019 Janmaat, Hernandez, Foster, Holebas, Mariappa, Bachmann - contracts expire on 30/06/2020 Pereyra, Deeney, Kabasele, Okaka, Prodl, Cathcart, Foulquier, Zeegelaar, Sinclair - contracts expire on 30/06/2021 I'm assuming all players out of contract this season will leave. Of the others, I think both Mapps and Holebas will be allowed to have their contracts run down and I think Janmaat will be sold in this window. I would expect Foster to have his 1 year extension activated probably this time next year. Not sure what they feel about Bachmann. He's done well in Scotland, so they may wish to cash on him now. If they want to keep him as a number two, then I would think they'd have to extend his current contract. Hernandez and Pereyra are the two stand out concerns from that list. Both are valuable commodities and we really need them either signing new contracts or we will be forced to sell in this window. I don't think they will look at Deeney's or Cathcart's contract situation at this stage. The club would be confident of retaining these players, so there is no rush to extend their contracts until this time next year.
Surprised the club have allowed Cucho to get down to just a year left. Certainly highlights the argument that he could be sold this summer before we even see him.
I'd imagine Cucho will sign a new deal regardless of whether he's coming or going, I doubt we'll let him go on the cheap
I would be amazed if Cucho’s contract had been run down, I would tend not to believe it. is it simply a case that the club doesn’t announce everything?
Is there an official source anywhere with Cucho's contract details on it? I see transfermarkt says it's until 2020 but with no link through to how it knows that.
Keep Sema Okaka The rest are utter gash and can go. Sell Mariappa Femenia Gray Cleverley Quina Bachmann Dahlberg Wilmot Penaranda Capoue Foster Holebas Cathcart Deeney Hughes Success Kabasele Masina Britos Prodl Sinclair Navarro Gomes Zeegelaar Hoban Foulquier Janmaat Doucoure Pereyra Hernandez Pedro Stuparevic
A while back, probably 2-3 months ago, someone posted on twitter that Cucho had signed a new 4 year deal. There is no way the Pozzo’s would let one of their prized assets leave for peanuts. If you believe reports, didn’t we reject a £30mil bid from Barca for him?
I think we would only need players in 4 positions for next season that I could class as essential assuming we don't sell the important ones. Centre back - to play alongside Cathcart who is better than Cathcart. In other words a leader and an upgrade. Left back - Holebas is too old now. Needs replacing. Left wing - Pereyra should be sold. Hasn't been good enough since December 2018. Replace him with someone with pace, a good cross and a season long work rate. Right wing - Will Hughes isn't a right winger. Replace with someone with pace who can play there and cross the ball. (Delefeou would be my choice with us buying a striker instead but Gracia prefers him up front.) With those quality wingers on both flanks who can cross I think in all probability we would've got 7th despite the leaky defence. How many times can you remember Pereyra and Hughes showing pace going past players and crossing a decent ball last season?
