Either Troy will be sold or I feel he's going to have a great season. Hard work, competition for places, better players around him, this could be a great season for Troy. Or, as I say, he'll be off. But can't see him just being on the bench most of the season.
I've said this before. It isn't a first 11 anymore it's a first 14, that is the way most teams play these days, so even if he comes off the bench some of the time he would still be very much part of the first team set up.
Feel sorry for Troy & of the complete lack of respect shown here. Captain & club talisman yet people here quick to take the p*ss when he's not even kicked a ball. Of course things move on & it looks ever more likely he will not fit into the MS system, but the members that criticise, at least show some class. Remember the positive impact TD has had on our club over these last 5 seasons.
It is early days, I doubt he is fully fit yet and I expect we will be seeing him on the pitch after the international break. Okaka is more the unlucky one, he probably deserved to start after his performance last week; still it's nice to have thses difficult choices to make for a change!
Its a squad game and imagine it will depend if its a game we expect to dominate or a game we are counter attacking
Fine, providing he is prepared to be a good captain - supportive, positive and inspiring, rather than moaning, groaning and **** stirring if he isn't playing so regularly.
I'd expect to see Deeney given a chance to impress Silva against Bristol City. It's tough when you don't have a preseason with a new gaffer.
The lack of respect you show is actually quite disgusting. Deeney has created a bond with this football club and it's fans that is rare in this day and age. He was exceptional in every Championship season and his presence in the changing room was a big part of the reason as to why we even got promoted despite having FOUR managers in a single season. Joka dropped him and he responded by playing a starring role in the 4-3 win at Bolton and he wasn't dropped again. Then in his first Prem season he scores what 13 goals? 6/7 assists to keep us up. He has one BAD, not awful, not poor, maybe not even bad, one AVERAGE season in the Premiership under one of the most horrible managers in recent memory and you want to label him names? Get a grip. After all he's done for us, if anyone deserved a pass on a sub-par season it would be Troy.
I havn't "labelled hm any names" whatever that means. Read my post again. I just want him to be a good captain and not, as rumored, a disruptive influence. Nothing wrong with that. If I was on between £50k and £100k a week, whatever it is, I would certainly be a good, supportive captain. But I do think last season was terrible, I think we just have different standards. I also think that showing up two seasons running, whilst earning between £50k and £100k, overweight and unfit, is disrespectful of the Club, the fans and the honour of being Captain. This season, however, he look leaner and (injury aside) fitter. So good for him - about time.
You assume he's disruptive why? Was he overweight or unfit two seasons ago? He scored 13 goals, provided 7 assists (most of those to Ighalo) and played every single one the 38 games so please remind me again how unfit he was? How many injuries did this fat and unfit Deeney get last year? Absolute tosh.
As I said, you are as entitled to set your own standards of professionalism, as I am, and many agree with you. So don't get so upset about it, I won't.
Is there a rule that stops us from just wedging him in the goal for 90 minutes. It'll ease our goal keeping worries.

Good move by Troy. Shows he's taking the problem seriously and isn't content to just sit on his laurels.
The FA have confirmed they are investing Deeney's obscene gesture last night. Oh well, another massive ban then. I really don't know what goes on in his head at times.
The club really have to throw the book at him. Club captain now set to be missing at least 10+ games through suspension this season
https://www.hertfordshiremercury.co...s/watford-skipper-troy-deeney-reveals-1172244 Yes Troy, we know you're still here unfortunately. What a moronic thing to do, imagine being a club captain who has missed 7 games through suspension this season only to get another ban through swearing at your own fans. No wonder the club were open to him leaving last month, sounds like he's lost his ******* head in the last year.
Like a red rag to the usual lonely Deeney haters. Makes me wonder if they have much day to day human contact.
He was excellent last night, back to something near his best. Its what makes it all the more unbelievable he does something so stupid. You can't defend somebody who is going to miss 1/4 of the season through suspension
His pressing was good for the majority of the game and held up the ball very well especially in the second half. But the same issues are still there, he's absolutely no threat to the opposition goal in open play and he's clumsy in possession.
He created the space for two goals, is that not a threat? I'm probably his biggest critic, but when he puts the effort in and helps make things happen, he deserves praise just like anyone else.
I agree he did well for Deulofeu's goal but when Andre Gray makes space for others to score, as he has done this season, but doesn't put it in the net himself then he is deemed not good enough by many people.
