1-1 Gray after an amazing run and through ball from Will Hughes.

Fair enough, more cover at at the back would be welcomed, but I’m not reading too much into Dawson’s form last year, given that he was clearly unhappy there and he’s proven himself to be a decent defender at this level.

Again, fair comment regarding Geri, but equally, who at our level does have an equal replacement for their best player? IF, and I admit it’s a big if at this stage, we bring in Sarr or another player of his type, We will at lot stronger in the creative forward department. Given the rumors so far, I think it’s fair to say that I’d expect a signing in this area by the time the window closes.

I don’t necessarily agree with your comments about Hughes. He might line up as a winger, but he’s not played as a traditional winger. Tactically, he plays a lot more centrally. If his job was to bomb down the wing, I’d agree that he’s being shoe-horned in, but we don’t play a traditional 4-4-2. He tucks well inside most of the time, creating space for the full-back to push on, and allowing Pereyra to play with more freedom on the left. Whether we agree with those tactics or not, it’s lazy to call him a winger when his role on the field suggests he’s not supposed to play as we might expect a winger to play, hugging the touch line and whipping in crosses.

I think it’s clear that we do need more depth, but this is the same squad that was being lauded as one of our best ever after the semi-final. Yeah, we fell away at the end in disappointing fashion (not the first, nor the last to be distracted by a big game on the horizon) but this is the same group of players/coaches that many of here tipped for certain relegation last year, and very nearly delivered one of our most memorable seasons ever.

If the squad hasn’t been improved by next weekend, I’ll be disappointed, but I don’t think that means certain doom, or that we’ll even spend the season in a dog fight. I think we’ll be comfortable without additions, but the group of clubs around us last year will probably pull away, leaving us around the top of the bottom half.

Agreed. They just tweeted "Gray makes no mistake albeit with a helpful deflection from the last man". Come on mate, have a think about that one

When we have the ball, which isn't that often, Hughes is running the show.

Sociedad just had a one on one from 6 yards out, defence nowhere to be seen. Foster saves.

Another good save from Foster, defence again all over the place, Dawson lost his man. Tipped over.

Oh look, the two people I was referring too. The same two who were saying the exact same thing a year ago. The same two that pretty much have nothing positive to say about the club. For your information I’m not a happy clapper and will have a go if I think it’s not right and I didn’t wave my flag at Wembley as I was too gutted. 2-1 by the way, if you care

    Not too much new.

Our defence did not look like a unit at all though. Cathcart fell asleep a couple of times. Holebas looked far behind the fitness levels of the rest of the team and was caught out of position a lot.

Foster continues to make some erratic decisions in coming off his line, but his shot stopping was good.

I thought the pen was actually a bit harsh, though Ken was still useless overall. To balance out the questionable pen, Gray's second goal might have been a nose offside, but good strength and finish.

Gray did what Gray does - poor in the buildup play, but our only forward other than Deulofeu who knows where the back of the net is.

Good result. Deeney got handed a trophy from Rita. Average first half much better second but RS were by far the better side and we just about got over the line.

Been a pretty good pre season overall. Just one loss and three wins. Gray may of found his shooting boots then? Theres optimisin in the air still Team still needs work and we still have glaring weaknesses in said areas but we are a good side.

Real fun starts in seven days.

Disaster as this result undoubtedly is, let’s hope the club do the sensible thing and start building a team capable of getting us promoted back to the Championship in three seasons time.

I’ve said it in other threads. I’m also not saying they are entirely wrong. There are clearly things that we could improve on but equally there is plenty to be happy about

I have plenty positive to say about our performances when they merit it. Did so numerous times last season. Sorry it isn’t up to your standards. If you can’t see that not refreshing an ageing squad to some extent in this league is asking for trouble then I think you are completely wrong.

Our squad players are woeful. Next season we need:

    A) Gracia to outperform again
    B) to steer clear of any significant injuries

If we do that we will be fine. But the owner has done nothing to help Gracia this summer and we’ve certainly gone backwards relatively.

Our squad players had a big say in us getting to a cup final and it’s not like the same eleven played every week. Could we improve? Of course we could but it’s the complete doom and gloom that gets me because it really isn’t that bad. I’ve been mocked by some for this but actually keeping Doucoure and Delefeou is better business than signing Sarr in my opinion as they are proven.

Spurs had the same problem last season, and as a result they lost a cup final.

To be fair, I'd like to see a couple of signings but the stupid decision to close our transfer window before other European leagues handicaps us.

I agree with you on Doucoure and Delefeou. On the squad players though Gomes, Masina, Prodl, Sema, Success, Okaka and Peneranda are all far below the required standard. Some of them may have beaten Woking and QPR but surely you can see that if these players are starting regularly in the event of injuries we have a big problem. Peneranda aside (as he might improve) the rest should be nowhere near our squad anymore. Duds and has beens all of them.

Ha ha :) GD is possible the most negative person I have come across on a football forum, it is starting to make me laugh. He and Nath for me, are pretty close though. A Watford player makes a misplaced pass and the pair of them compete on the shoutbox to make the first post on how the player is the "worse ever to wear the shirt". I've seen Nath criticise seven players in one game before anything remotely positive comes out. Then we went a couple of goals ahead, and he disappears at half-time. Comical.

Jumbo's making a late charge though, not sure what's happened to him over the past year, he's getting a bit moody..

GD's the same with the cricket. Nothing from him on the cricket thread, then England lose a couple of wickets, and he suddenly appears from nowhere, with a barbed comment about how terrible we are. Then he disappears until they lose another wicket.

It does make me wonder how some people get through the day.

    ZZ don's tin hat.

Bless. Gets called a liar over every aspect of his fake persona on the politics forum, mosies over to the football section for a lying personal rant over several members. Sorry Jumbo and Nath, I've riled the compulsive fake news man up.

Stick to what you know m8, making **** up over in the other place. Leave the football to the adults.

Just tell Gray to run towards the goal..

Not to worry about the rest of the game!

    Dawson did ok ..

Hopefully a new player or two and GD fit next week
