    I was hoping we shelved that approach. To play out from the back you have to have good players, I mean very good players. If you do not have this, it's always going to be an accident waiting to happen. We got caught out quite a lot last season and gifted so many cheap goals.

    With regards Cucho, unless he's been given a WP, he's not allowed to train with Watford.

    Mariappa has been out of his depth in the Premiership. OK, l read that he is a nice guy off the field.

    I totally agree. I think people get caught up in the fact he is clearly very passionate about the club which is great to see but is past his best (not sure his best was ever good enough for this level) and should not be anywhere near starting. People had the same view on Doyley

    Decent cheap cover for 5-6 games a season, as I'm sure was intended when he signed. It's the lack of quality of our other CHs that has caused him to have played his way into the starting 11.

    Injuries - Kabasele/Cathcart/Prodl and Britos all been injured for a period of time of course.

    Maybe Mariappa has been lucky in that sense but I don't remember him suffering injury in either spell with us.

    Maybe he could join the fitness/medical team!

    I accept I am in the minority on this, but to say he isn't good enough for the Premier League when he played the majority of the season for a team who finished 11th and got to the cup final shows that he is good enough, surely? I know he has his moments, as does Cathcart, but they were the mainstays of a defence for a team that finished 11th last season.

    Good club guy, decent backup. But not good enough to play with 30+ games when the club are open about their ambition to be best of the rest. Wrong side of 30 so certainly not improving either.

    I just imagine that opposition managers would always tell their teams to target him knowing he’s the weak link. Last season should be the last season he sees regular football IMO but I don’t think it will be.

    I think the most disappointing thing is that it’s just so predictable. You just need to replace Sema with Pereyra and Gray with Deulofeu and that’s our starting 11 against Brighton a week from now. Same formation and everything.

    Let's just hope that the reason Deulofeu and Pereyra aren't playing today isn't because Pozzo is "cashing in at peak value" on them, because that XI/bench is absolutely vile and will be dead certs for relegation.

    Gomes still the number 2 seemingly as well? That means he will play in the cups and if we progress the club will come up with absurd sentimental reasons why he needs to keep playing (again) even though he is patently in semi retirement.
