Holebas has just been booked for kicking Joey Barton in the head, according to Paul Merson on Sky Sports.....

Surely you must all love him now! :sign12:

That was a cruel yellow, he can hardly help if he's playing the ball and some angry Scouser headbutts his boot. He got the ball before he got Barton, for goodness sake!

I like Holebas honestly, he's consistent when he isn't suspended and was the best crosser on the team until we signed Niang. He's still pretty good going forward and I think his goals and assists this season demonstrate that. I'm not that bothered about his attitude unless it's negatively affecting his performances, which it doesn't seem to be.

    Great assist for N'yang's goal.

Not everything comes off and he always looks angry but Holobas always puts in a shift and is a handful for opposition defenders. There's not many better LBs that won't cost squillions about.

I like Holebas, I like the way his heart in on his sleeve and generally looks angry with the whole world most of the time

He would be one of the first players I'd replace in my starting line up.

Yes he has passion, but so often it is misplaced. Being fired up is fine if you don't do something petulant like boot the ball away. Shouting at teammates is okay if you are being inspirational, and not doing it when you should be running back into position.

He constantly puts us under pressure by picking up needless yellow cards. He has significantly more yellow cards than any other player in the division. Putting it into context, in four of the last five seasons, nobody was given more yellow cards over the entire season than Holebas has after after 24 games.

I think he needs 4 yellows in 14 games, to break the Premier Leagues record for most yellow cards received.

He is a liability. I want a player in my team who is actually as good as Holebas thinks he is.

    Holebas himself though... Nah.

Top notch statto work there Mike. And correct. 6 players are tied on 14 yellow cards in a season. 15 would not only give Holebas the record but also a three game ban for his troubles. It's an illustrious club too - Mark Hughes, Robbie Savage, Paul Ince, Olivier Dacourt, Lee Cattamole and Cheik Tiote.

If he plays his cards right he could be starting his summer holiday early. Best of luck to him.

Fair play to the bloke, looks set to break a Premier League record. He is now on 12 yellow cards for the season in 24 games. The record is 14 in a season by no surprise, Lee Cattermole, and the even more remarkably ****e Tiote from Newcastle. The later is only ahead of him on the games to card ratio as well. I reckon 15 and a three game ban must be on the cards by the end of the season!

He was listed somewhere as a 'hard man'. Most of his yellows are for being a bit of a ***** so hardly the Vinnie Jones type.

Funnily enough both players have a great left foot and both would lose their heads.

He's an absolute ******. He does the same thing every single game, races into the middle of the pitch to try to win a slide tackle he has no chance of getting to and leaving a huge gap out wide. He is mentally incapable of staying in position at left back and even on the odd occasion he is there, he makes no effort to stop crosses or follow his man. A dreadful, dreadful defender.

Takes a nice set piece though and can cross so I'm sure some people will reply saying he's the best left back we've ever had!

Totally agree. An ******** with no one threatening his place. Full backs an absolute priority in the summer.

In the second half his defensive positioning was pretty awful in my opinion. Going forward Holebas is generally good but asa defender, you have to be far more aware of where the winger is that you are due to be marking. Salah was left on his own too many times.

Bumping this thread. Holebas was superb today. Deserves a lot of credit. Most our positive play going forward was through him and also what a cross for Richy's goal.

Put Kieran Gibbs firmly back in his box today and showed Gino was right. I just wish he was 10 years younger... I criticised Holebas a lot last year and thought he’d end being a liability this season. But he has proved me very wrong and I’m happy to admit as much.

I've always been a fan because on his day he's one of our top 5 players, the issue wasn't him it's that we didn't and still don't really have a back up. Great pics btw, he's trying not to smile

I think what's helped him is that I think he's realised and accepted that he hasn't got the pace he used - he's still fairly quick. I used to get frustrated when he'd try and push the ball past a defender and couldn't get past him, or he'd try to take on 3 defenders and lose the ball and get stuck out of position. I can understand why as he was trying to make something happen - which should be lauded.

He's now playing with a lot more intelligence, he gets it and gives to Richie then backs him up, he doesn't try and shoulder all the responsibility to try to make something happen. We've got other offensive weapons, so he can pick and choose when to go forward and rest/cover when he doesn't.

The red mist can still descend, but I guess we wouldn't love him so much if he didn't kick lumps out of someone and get carded.

Shame this forum no longer has a dislike button...

Only kidding as I enjoy both of you guys' posts but regardless of how much he's improved or not it seemed a bit unfair to be singling him out after a game (the Southampton 3-4) in which hardly anyone covered themselves in glory, especially the midfield/defence.

How does the humble pie taste now? :)
