    Good idea!

England will try to upset the odds and a resurgent Australia when the first Test begins in Brisbane on Thursday.

The Aussies have not lost a home Ashes opener for 20 years and have won 11 of their 12 Tests since relinquishing the famous urn after last year's 2-1 loss.

During the same period England have won only one out of their four Test series.

But skipper Andrew Flintoff said: "Not many lads in our dressing room have played a Test in Brisbane before. There are no scars from previous games here."

I think the aussies will be running scared after the first test , England to win with a day to spare . We all saw how there batting collapsed in the last series on more than one occasion. They are not the team they were, all of the pundits reckoned we'd get thumped last time round .

England to win 3-1 and Flintoff to play a big captan's role and be the man of the series .

(I also thought we'd be in 10th position at this stage of the season , so what do i know !!)

If anyone knows where I can get one of those pop up things that give you a running score I'd appreciate it. (the ones that pop up out of the task bar type thingys)

the BBC sports website did one last time , and you can pay for wicket alerts to be sent to your mobie .

failing that you'll have to run sky sports score centr in the background

Haha fair enough! I'd love you to be right and we wallop the convicts 3-1 but sadly i can't see that! Not on there own turf!

Don't forget we had Michael Vaughan and Simon Jones then (two massive losses to the side) and an inform Steve Harmison and Andrew Flintoff....not mentioning the loss of Tres!

Oh well, i think we can nick a draw in this series and retain the urn!

Man of the tournament will be Ian Bell or Monty Panesar!

What about the best test newcomer for the last series a quiete Kevin Peitersen !!

I Think he will be up there again ,i've heard that 'Solvite' have become his new sponsor .

Stevo will fire again and I agree Jones played well and will be missed . But how good would it be for us to win the series using the spin on Monty , taught by the man Warne himself

Would be rather embarrasing for the Convicts if we 'spin them out' in the series, especially seeing as they have the best spin bowler of all time in their side! Speaking of Warney, I believe he is only 13 wickets away from taking 700 test wickets? An immense achievement in all fairness...certainly wouldn't put it past him to take 13 wickets in this first test!

Agreed, Harmy's day is becoming again and the sooner he fires them in at 90mph+ again the better chance we have of winning out there! Wouldn't rule him out of having a good world cup in the W.Indies either...those bouncy, hard tracks will suit him!

What about openeing a bet for highest run scorer per test or most wickets in the series in the virtual bookie

As long as Warne stays fit i think he'll reach the magic 700 after 3 tests . and probably take 20 for the series.

Mate, SW will do more than 20 in the series...more like 30!

Good idea, i think we should open up a little wager for highest run scorer/wicket taker per test or series?! Good stuff fella!

Pietersen for highest Run Scorer first Test
Ian Bell highest Run Scorer for series

Steve Harmison highest Wicket Taker first Test
Matty Hoggard Highest Wicket Taker for Series

Cant allow myself to believe that an aussie will pick up any accolades apart from Warne's 700

What a crap day thus far! Harmy's first ball was a complete joke and just set the tone for a really bad day! Aussies are well on course to get 500+

Says it all when our best two bowlers have been the two that have just come back from operations (giles and freddie)!

We need to nip another two out before the close of play, new ball should be due soon and Freddie needs to take it...he's the only hope we have of getting them out!

Harmison can kiss my backside...he's crap! Get him out and get Mahmood in for the next test!

Good choice to play Giles...he'll add depth to a decent batting line-up!

Pi$$ poor day, LMFAO at the first ball and as you say set the tone.

Another day like that tomorrow and you can see them getting past 500 without trouble and then having an hour at us last thing.

What's going on with Harmison?? What a load of rubbish, he seems to be only able to perform in England. When he goes abroad he gets homesick and struggles. Not the best start for us last night.

    We need a big morning.

Can't believe that first new ball never swung at all yesterday where is daryl when you need him for a bit of tampering.

Never liked kookabura balls, always seemed very hard.

Harmison was just lulling the Aussies into a false sense of security , he's gonna bowl a hatrick in his first over and score a century to make up for it !!!!

    Where's the coffee , I'm sure I can smell it somewhere !!!

I would have thought more the 3 bottles of scotch than the Nescafe was the problem.

I wouldnt know quality wine if someone showed me . Unfortunately i drink wine like lager , two maouthfulls and the glass is empty.

To be honest it tastes no different to a £5 bottle of Chardonnay from the offy , but then i did say i couldnt tell the difference

Another bl00dy disastrous day, we won't make the follow on target and it could all be over a day early.

Time for a few people to show some spunk and stand up and be counted.

Disgraceful treatment of the Barmy Army as well, bloody convicts.

Exactly Jobr. Throwing out the trumpeter was like if they ever threw out Stevie G, however they did try to do this once this season.

However that doesn't mean we have an excuse for playing disasterously!!

who's going to stand up for England tonight

    Bell

    KP

    Freddie

    Useless aussie keeper?

Can't wait, bottle of wine, cheesy nibbles, midnight backs to the wall,

fall asleep about 3.30, wake up 5.00 and KP and Belly both past their 150s

    oh no...that was a dream
