I stayed up until 4 to listen to the cricket on 5 Live, wishing I hadn’t bothered – not looking good at all. Couldn’t believe Freddie went out for 0, and Bell the highest scorer with 50 is shocking!

I was hoping for a minor miracle when I went to bed (after Australia decided not to enforce the follow on), but woke up and have seen their 2nd innings are already 181-1!

Hawk eye reckoned KP's would have missed and freddies was a no ball :(

Surprised Warney didn't take a wicket in the first innings, granted, he didn't bowl as many overs as McGrath or Lee but still you would expect him to get at least one. Best bowler of all time IMO.

Great interview they showed with Warne during the lunch break yesterday, have so much respect for the bloke, just a genius!

Jon you're right mate, KP's one was missing off stump (although he did himself no favours by not playing a shot) and Flintoff's was a no ball!

To be honest if you were the umpire for KP's it would have looked plum.

Don't disagree, but as Nick said by shouldering arms he never helped himself at all.

Just gets worse doesn't it? Sounds like Bell shouldn’t have been out, but I don’t have the benefit of replays :(

Well at least Collingwood and Kevin Pietersen showed they can bat and built decent scores.

Still some silly shots played though.

Maybe it will rain tomorrow and give us hope!

At last we showed a bit of fight, but I can't help thinking what could / should have been.

Some very, very poor shot selection, five down did they get 1 wicket and we give them the other 4?????

off to do my rain dance now, its the only chance we have to hold on.

lets hope that half hour or so they batted on for comes back to hurt them.

Here we go again then! Got to perform better in the first 3 days than we did last time!

    Selection anyone?

Panesar in? Mahmood in? Same side as before?

    My team would be:

    Strauss
    Cook
    Bell
KP (put him back at 4)
    Collingwood
    Flintoff
    Jones
    Giles
    Hoggard
    Mahmood
    Panesar

The team i would pick would be the same as you Nick except KP at 5 because he prefers it. personally I think he should bat 4 but if the guy prefers 5, so be it.

    The actual team will be;

    Strauss
    Cook
    bell
    Collingwool
    KP
    fred
    Jones
    Gilo
    Hoggard
    Wide boy Harmisson
    Monty

Yes I think both your teams are spot on, but maybe I'd say Joyce for Bell just because I'm a Middlesex man! Actually no, that wouldn't be such a good idea!

  16. berkshirehorn

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

    my team

    strauss
    cook
    bell
    KP
    Collinwood
    Freddie
    Reade
    King of Spain
    Hoggard
    Harmie
    Monty

Can keep risking jones behind the stumps and didnt contribute with the bat so Reade gets a chance. he can bat a bit as well.

    GOT TO WIN THE TOSS

King of Spain - lmao, i remember that, very good!

Jon, i know KP prefers 5 but for the good of the team i'd have collingwood in at 5 or even maybe 6! I think Freddie and KP give their wickets away sometimes too cheaply due to poor shot selection...at least if Colly is in there it would add more security/discipline to the middle order! The first innings was a good example of that...flintoff and KP going very cheaply and before you know it Jones and Giles are in! Collingwood can occupy the crease all day when he gets in and would be better batting with the tail than either Freddie or KP!

I had Mahmood in for Harmison and Monty in for Anderson but to be honest i can only see Monty for Anderson happening!

Agree mate, I would push KP to 4 with Fred at 5.

    OMG!

    Monty still hasn't been picked.

Same team as the shambles in Brisbane.

    I must put Sky on.

Don't doubt you Superhorns but if that is true then we really have lost the plot.

Great fightback by the lads! Looked sh*t at lunch time when we were 60 for 2 on a good track but at 217 for 3 with KP blasting Warney out the ground and Colly batting like a legend we look alot better now!

Need to make 450+ and stick the Aussies end for an hour and a half tomorrow night and skittle a few out! If we can take a lead of 100+ going into our 2nd innings then we can level this series up!

    Come on!

New ball taken...England 257-3...Pieterson on 59 and Collingwood on 91

Just hope we can get through tonight without any late casualties!

KP got out of jail on the penultimate ball.

    266-3 at close.

Be nice to see Colly, KP and Fred make tons tomorrow. That would put us past 400, the tail wagging could give us another 80 odd runs and it won't have been a bad couple of days

Knackered from work yesterday so had a few guinness in the pride when got back. Felt a wtweek peckish as bears often do and at closing time got a pizza and a spag bol takeaway. Bunged the radio on 5live extra and listened throughout the night, whilst dozing off, waking uo and eating pizza and spag bol. Knackered today.

We need to get 600 and get the Aussies on the run. If we could win this from a decent start would really make for a good series.

As of 05'30 GMT England were at 468/4 with a Double century for Paul Collingwood (206 off 392 balls) pieterson not out on 145 going in for tea (306 partnership).
Fantastic performance by england through out the night.
Flintoff is in now and will decide in the next few hours wether to call it or to carry on, will most likely call it just before close of play.

Woke up just in time to see Pieterson run out and then we lost another wicket for just 2 runs. Think I should have stayed in bed we were doing well then.

551-6 obviously dec, and the Aussies are in.

19-1 at the mo, Langer c Pieterson b Flintoff, Hayden is on 11 and Ponting 3.

Great day, great performance from Colly and KP in paticular!

Target for tonight is to surely bowl the Aussies out before the close for less than 350, and then on the 4th day smash a quick 250 and stick the Aussies in for the last session of the 4th day needing 450 to win!

    Great stuff

    Barmy Army!

Damm you Mr Aussie captain and Hussey!

Didn't see the Giles drop...was it a bad one or quite difficult?

Good to see Hoggard get 4 wickets and we still have a chance I feel although the draw must be big favourite.

  35. jobr

I think it has draw wrote all over it now.

Hoggy bowled well and stuck to the task on a good batting pitch.

Could do with 3 or 4 quick wickets in the first hour tomorrow.
