Best thing about sport..'villain' one minute, hero the next..and ofc in this division you get so many matches coming at you thick and fast, you soon get time to redeem yourself if you have a bad match.

I so wanted him to get another tonight..so the long hattrick wait would have been ended by a player coming on as a sub! Must be years since that's happened for us!

I love luxury players me. Love 'em.

In the commentary tonight, they said something along the lines of "now's not the time for dragbacks and flicks". That's the commentary equivalent of urging the team to hoof it forward.

I'd rather have luxury, dragbacks and flicks and just miss out on promotion than hoof it and chase it and go up.

FF isn't a striker, but then neither was John Barnes and neither was Stuart Scullion and those three are equal top of my favourite ever WFC player list, with El Topa having the potential to take the top spot all for himself in the (hopefully) five and a half years we've got him contracted for.

We've boasted all season about our squad size. Tonight we showed it with a sub getting a brace. I won't be a hypocrit..I was a bit worried that neither FF or Geijo were prolific in front of goal once Vydra had a dip in form that was inevitable as the guy didn't play last season and was bound to tire..but tonight FF did the biz..two totally different sorts of goal too..very encouraging.

Thought it was ridiculous a lot of people getting on the guy's back after his 13 mins at Wolves... he's shown all of them up tonight with that performance, and I love the fact we're able to have that sort of talent sitting on the bench, eager to prove what they can do once they get on.

Well done to Fessi tonight, and Chalobah - game changers.

And I believe that's another player to add to the list of those who have scored a brace without going on to score a hat-trick, no?

Looks like those misses at Wolves played on his mind and he reacted spot on - he was superb when he came on, regardless of the goals.

Forget his goal celebration. Did you see him at the SW corner at the end of the match when the Rookery was singing his chant? He was literally in tears

No but he clearly cares about playing here and football in general.

    The programme interview proves that.

Chalobah for me is the 'must play' player atm. He controls the games tempo and oozes composure and class, his passing isnt bad either!!

Love the way he can switch play from left to right with a perfect lofted ball. Makes it look effortless.

C + P from two of my earlier posts on this thread: -

"Don't get me wrong, I am very pleased he has signed for us and I think he is a great player, but he is not a prolific GOAL SCORER; and unless GFZ can change him he never will be IMO"

"HOWEVER HE IS NOT, AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL BE AN OUT AND OUT STRIKER unless GFZ pulls off some kind of miracle, as quite frankly he makes Luthers legendary misses, look like close calls, but at least Luther still managed to knock a fair number in, but I doubt FF will ever score more than a handful of goals a season. As for him being young, he aint that young, he's 23, so if he hasn't cured his "gips" in front of goal by now, I doubt he ever will, unless as I said GFZ pulls off a miracle?"

According to the Official WFC Site, FF had a special shooting practice with GFZ after training on Monday, so maybe GFZ is pulling off that miracle after all ;)

Give him time, he maybe just 23 but he has only had a short time in England. Look at the stats, he has scored 5 in 21 a goal per game ratio of 1:4.2

    • The great Luther Blissett only managed only scored 7 in his first 40 appearences for Watford 1:5.7
    • At 23 Zola had scored 31 in 119 appearences 1:3.8 and in his career at Chelsea scored 59 in 229 1:3.9
    • Even RVP in his first season at Arsenal only scored 10 in 41 1:4.1 and at 23 had scored 43 in 185 1:4.3

He has the potential to become prolific but will also continue to be pretty wasteful particularly as like Luther he will get into positions others won't and is prepared to have a crack at goal and try the audacious!

Realistically Forestieri is more likely to be a prolific goalscorer at the top levels than Vydra. Forestieri can carve out opportunities with his strange hopping around and diminutive size, whilst Vydra mainly relies on a through-ball which he can rely on his pace to get on the end of - and I just can't see that many of those getting past players like Kompany and Pique, or that is easily countered by a faster wing back like Clichy or Evra. Don't get me wrong, Vydra is amazing, but it will be easier to get Forestieri to learn how to slot them away past the keeper than to get Vydra to play his way past 3 or 4 players near the corner flag.

We have several good options up front and should we get to the premiership they all offer possibilities:

    • Deeney as the old fashioned centre foward who can hold and link-up play. His finishing has improved this season as well although he has a habit of hitting the keeper when one-on-one.
    • Vydra is great one-on-one and running in behind defences, although he still very young and his overall game will improve the more time he spends with Zola
    • Forestieri as mentioned has the skill and trickery to unlock any defence

Plus we have Geijo who is suited to the premiership, youngster such as Assmabalonga and Mensah and maybe even Beleck plus what ever other gems from the Pozzo pool!

Vydra is also very raw for a striker and has a lot to learn but he will. As it is he is already starting from a very good position. Good technique, can play in others , fiercesome shot and plenty of raw pace.

His finisihing is improving; his second goal will back that as it bent it round (to a certain degree) against the keeper.

Did anyone notice his first goal nearly went over; hit the roof of the net? It appears that hs struggles more close range rather than middle.

Excellent post! Of course people are allowed to comment on individual performances within a match and express a negative comment or two if they feel it's justified..but for me the end of the season will be the time to sit back and try and take a measured view of how all our players have performed. It's easy to get into a 606/Talksport mentality and believe that every minute of the season needs a black or white, good or bad instant reaction, we're going up, we're not going up, we're great, we're not great etc..but right now it's more fun just enjoying the ride!
