He's just asked on his facebook whether he should have No 11, or No 41 for the season.

Just as Newcastle has the famous number 9 shirt and United have the famous number 7, Forestieri has the opportunity to make the number his own and be Watford's best ever number 41!!

 

Who's he in competition with? I'm trying to remember past number 41 shirt holders.

 

Definitely 41.

A regular number like 11 doesn't do him justice.

I said it before and I'll say it again, if he keeps the number 41, by the time he leaves it will be retired.

 

Also, having the number 41 means that he is always the last name announced on the PA when the line ups were read out.

It's become a sort of pre match ritual to sing his name after the team is announced as a result.

 

I think i'd prefer him to continue wearing the 41 shirt. He made it his last season alone.

I think he has the potential to become one of my all time favourite players to wear the shirt - so much character.

 

There can't be many clubs with squad number 41 and I can't see us ever having that many players again ... that makes it special in my eyes and if he went on to be the next Messi the number would serve him well at any club.

I used to catch a number 41 bus (though I forget where) and it was also my house number when I started supporting the hornets,

 

Sort of like when Tommy Mooney wore the number 11, before squad numbers and the final announced name was always "Aaaand Tooooooooommy Moooooooooonnnneeeeeeeey!"

 

I'd like to see Forestieri take the 41 shirt for the next 5 years, it adds to his character. He'd also have to change his twitter if he changed shirts.

A lot to be said for the old days. If you are RB you get No 2, if the same guy plays right half he gets a number 4, centre fwd No 9 etc etc

 

I think that reflected the fact that back then, you had a first 11 who played every game unless injured. Some of the title winning teams Liverpool put out used something like 14 players across the entire season, as I remember.

The modern game emphasises squad depth more, and thus the prominence of 1-11 is really diminished.
