Out of all the Hull players we have been linked with, I hope this one is true. Highly unlikely because it is the Sun.

If we can get him that'll be a decent start to our transfer window. I expect Burnley have nearly got the deal home though.

If we can poach him great but I thought Burnley had this all done and dusted? Unless there still arguing over price which is what I read on skysports this morning. Much more like the right age bracket at only 23 and presumably it won't cost us an arm and a leg.
    We shall see

I'd rather him than George Friend.

Agreed this would be a much better signing - very good player who should only get better. There were reports towards the end of the season that he was off to Liverpool. Burnley deal has obviously hit a snag - we should definitely jump in and get him

Yes please. Good young left back, already understands Silva's system. Could have decent resale value in 2-3 years time

Burnley are going after Charlie Taylor and Joe Bryan so they appear to be going for other targets now.

Couple of articles floating around saying Burnley aren't prepared to pay what Hull want for him. Left back is definitely somewhere where we will be looking, so fingers crossed there is something in this.

Makes complete sense that we would sign him.

We'd probably be willing to pay a little more, as we are desperate for HG players.

Are Scottish players HG? Or if not was he playing in England more than 3 years before he was 21?

Edit: According to the premier league website he doesn't count as home grown.

No they don't count as HG and no he wasn't, I believe he joined Hull at 21 or maybe 20. So he will count as a jolly foreigner when we sign him.

That's a shame for our HG quota were we to sign him. Should keep the price down though I suppose.

Robertson is not homegrown. Friend is.

It's not completely cut-and-dried in terms of what makes sense. It might, for example, make sense to bring in a slightly weaker HG player than a slightly stronger non-HG player if we have other non-HG targets lined up.

Was fairly sure I was being whooshed, but a quick look on Hull's submitted squad from last season confirms he wasnt registered as HG. I was fairly sure Anya was HG, was this for a different reason other than being Scottish.

I have to admit, I have completely misunderstood the rule until now. Presumably this means Cathcart qualifies based on his time at United, rather than being from Northern Ireland?

Yes. From the opposite direction, Eric Dier was born in Cheltenham and plays for England but isn't HG because his training was in Portugal as a young player.

What a load of rubbish this home grown rule is anyway! He was born in the United Kingdom so should be classed as home grown, it's also a load of rubbish every team should have a squad that can have unlimited home grown players, I agree on limiting the non home grown players to a figure like it is now but to limit home grown players for a max squad size of 25 is ridiculous and probably killing the English game too

The Scotch don't qualify as homegrown because they hatch from eggs

Agreed. Had no idea that Scottish players did not count as home grown, and I used to be an avid football manager player.

Has this always been the case?

Is anyone really afraid that any team is going to be packing their team full of Scottish players?

Not sure if I've fallen for a wind up here or not? Here it goes anyway

The only limit on HG players is the 25 man squad which I don't think is unreasonable. Technically if they're below the age of 21 they don't need to be registered so an unlimited number can be used. Bournemouth registered 19 HG players last season, Burnley 18.

There's only maximum for foreign players, not HG

I believe the home grown limit is to stop teams like Chelski hoarding English HG players, which is possibly even more of a threat to the game. It could be said they are already stifling young English talent. Look what they do even when there is a limit...

You can only put 11 players on the pitch so I don't think a limit of 25 HG players aged over 21 is a barrier to anything.

I think the two of you seem to be in agreement about the limit on HGs.
