ISTR reading in something by Naomi Klein that US baseball shirt manufacturing costs in Haiti/Phillipines was in the region of a dollar a shirt.

FWIW I did some work for a Lithuanian sportswear manufacturer ("Audimas") who in '98 were looking to get a "BigCompany" contract in trainers and breathable waterproof jackets. The price of the jackets was just under $4...the company didn't even get past the "...written expression of interest in acting as a supplier..." round of the competition.

It cost about £5 to make a Nike shirt in Philippines and Indonesia (and transport it) if my old A Level globalisation memory is correct. The manufacturers takes about £15 quid, and it would be about £9 VAT and then a few quid marketing etc. Seeing that we sell in house and not via stores, we then cream licencing costs and then another £15 quid profit on top.

A lot of big clubs will also sell licencing to people like Sports Direct, who pay a flat percentage fee to the clubs on each shirt sold. They are your Liverpool, Chelsea etc, way out of our league. Some clubs like Rangers get it totally wrong, they only got 7% on each shirt sold, hence the big do about them renegotiating the deal this week.

Saw somebody with the new kit earlier, it looks alright but the sponsor's font is hideous and ruins it for me.

In the eighties my brother's then wife was a designer for Razzy a jeans company.

Julie went on a buying trip to Italy where they bought cotton t shirts for £3 and then printed the Razzy logo and any design on them, some were round necks other polo shirts. They retailed for £13.

Ellesse, then at the height of their powers with Boris Becker and Chris Evert as their leading contracted players, bought from the same factory. Ellesse printed their half tennis ball and so on to the garments and they retailed for £35.

    Morale of the tale?

Nothing new under the sun,or half tennis ball!

The average is only supposedly between 10% and 15% so at 50 quid a shirt the club can expect to keep a fiver or seven pounds fifty tops. When you take out the overheads such as paying shop staff etc it hardly seems worth it.

I took a guess earlier about numbers of shirts we are likely to sell.. but according to this.. http://talksport.com/football/premi...ge-global-shirt-sales-year-201112-201516?p=19 the figure of 10 thousand was about right.
That means the entire income to the club from shirt sales wouldn't cover a weeks wages for Troy Deeney.

Adidas have already done better than dryworld be giving the players training kit on day one of preseason.

Best new shirt I've seen over the summer is Southampton's new home shirt. They've based on the Patrick kit launched in 1980, broad white central panel with red sides. Very smart.

Yeah, the red stripes on red shirts are very good; better than the actual kit, in my opinion.

Disagree, I quite liked the grey and yellow combo. Perhaps a grey away kit with the three yellow stripes would look good...

I'd still wager that this is just more training gear; as someone said yesterday, the kit man will be controlling all the distribution anyway, and they won't just let one of the players wander about in it before the 'launch' if they don't want them to.

People on enjoy the game on FB claiming that the away shirt is purple and orange!

I wouldn't say no to something that wacky myself. It's only for one season after all.

Why do every ******* year morons say "Is this the new away shirt!?" When they see some training kit.

Are people genuinely that thick to think that would happen?

Well apart from last year that is.. when the training kit wasnt ready in time :)

PS I believe i was the "moron" who first mentioned the training kit as a possible away kit. Reason for that was because the first pics that came out on Twitter showed only a candid shot of Troy wearing something seemingly different from the others (though in the video clip it was clear others were as well) Now i know the club wont knowingly release pics of the kit before it's released.. though other leaks do occur, as weve seen.. but i was thinking that possibly the club might have been playing a little game with us.

    Anyway.. blame me.

    Settle down.... Jeez

Of course people (like myself) are going to get excited about Watford related stuff such as new kits being released because this is the stuff that entertains you temporarily whilst you wait for the new season to begin

I feel better about our home kit now that I've taken a look at everyone else's. Ours is a bit lame but Swansea, West Brom, Leicester, and Everton all are worse than their respective kits last year and worse than ours this year. Huddersfield and Crystal Palace kits are hideous. Newcastle and Chelsea manage to be more boring than us. Only Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Southampton are genuinely good. The rest are on par with us.

Palace's kit is worse than hideous, it's definitely the worst kit I've seen in years. They should be deducted points for having a kit so repulsive.

It's a tactic to distract opposition players and supporters from noticing how appalling Selhurst dump is.
