Seriously? This is amazing and seems quite crazy. Atletico Madrid already has become an "obstacle" sometimes in the paths of Barca+Real. A strong team but certainly not as strong economically as the two giants. Should Atletico become a less occasional but quite constant nuisance, Barca and Real could "legally" offer, say, an incentive of 2M€ bonus to each "other" team which happens to win against Atletico?
That is absolutely mad. What if Granada offer Cordoba £x and Cordoba ask for more? surely the implication is that Cordoba won't try unless their demands are met. What a bizarre rule.
It's not a rule When we lost the league because we missed a pen in the 85th minute the Valencia players, who had nothing to play for, celebrated like they had won the league. It has always been known that Barca gave them an incentive.. When Tenerife twice got results on the last day of the league to deny real Madrid the league title they were also given an incentive. A lot of clubs deny that they do it, but everyone does it. The word is that Granada will defo give Cordoba an incentive to win the game. Obviously I could be wrong!! I seemed to be talking boiiocks , have read up on payments from 3rd parties. La liga do not allow it and you can be sanctioned. The players union want payments for winning games to be made legal. Players know it goes on, fans know it goes on and it goes on.
As @feliuk says, its not a rule: In Spain, paying a team to make them lose its, obviously, illegal, but paying a team to win when they already are playing for nothing its like: "Meh, it can be there, that, at least, make that team try to play football and not stay walking all over the field" I totally think Granada it's going to pay Cordoba for, at least, a draw.
Can we club together as a forum and maybe get Cordoba a £10 Amazon voucher or something as an incentive to win?
It's not match fixing if you pay a team to win a game, IMO. I would call it an incentive But I don't think it should be done
OK. I can agree with that. But what happens if they don't get the 'incentive' they expect? Does that mean they won't try? See RunkleHorn #387. Surely the minum expectation of any professional footballer is to try their very best at all times seeing as they are nearly all paid far more than the vast majorityof the people watching them.
The concern for me is that, whilst they'll try especially hard in the game with the financial incentive, this may affect their performances in the game before. Surely you'd want to save yourself for a potentially lucrative win rather than risk tiring yourself or getting a ban and ruling yourself out of the next game?
But so so many times nobody has any idea how things will end up, until the end of the season (like both England and Spain tomorrow, a great performance by one team could change the outcome of the league)
Yes Depor could go and draw with Barca, they did it 2 years ago 0-0 last game. Eibar could lose to Cordoba at home, Cordoba have 8 players out and are taking 2 U21's and 1 U18 for the game LOL Granada could beat At.Madrid when both need 1 point, Granada to Survive and Atletico to finish 3rd Realistically Depor will lose, Eibar will win and Granada will draw. The payment thing in Spain is wrong IMO, but has happened for years and until there is some law to stop it, and I don't mean the league saying you can't do it, then it will carry on.
Not a great start. Almeria and Eibar both winning inside 10 mins. In fact Eibar 2-0 up. Depor losing. I can't keep up! The BBC have got an as it stands table http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/32792125
Valencia now scored and maybe it's done. If Almeria wins Granada goes down but now that seems unlikely
Obviously want Granada to hold out because of the Watford connection but also because I lived there for 2 months in 2004. Five mins + stoppage to go.
Well done Granada and credit to Depor. Along with the German league there have been 2 exciting relegation battles. Maybe Hull and Newcastle will produce another one?
And well done to the Pozzo's. Next season they'll have three teams in the three most important top leagues. Amazing!
