Does seem odd, Healey was similar, didn't start a game for us until he was almost out the door

Pleased Pollock gets a chance from the start to show what he can do; hopefully in a back 4 as well (with Sierralta DM) which I don't think I've seen him in since that infamous Millwall game. Also pleased to see Sema and Dennis left on the bench and not risked.

Have they got a strong bench so that when they find out at 2:10 they've got Maidstone at home in the next round they can make wholesale changes?

Ray Davies had to fly home from their USA tour to specifically record a new version of the song so it could be played on the radio in the UK.

Interesting starting eleven today. Pollock in the shop window maybe?

It's a cup game, perfect opportunity to play your second choice keeper to avoid him getting itchy feet. I know he's our only LCB, but I'm a little surprised Hoedt is starting, think he could do with a rest

There fans don’t seem to chuffed with it. Big chance for us to go through though. If we go through it’s going to be that lot up the road I reckon!!

Healey didn't exactly set the world alight, but we did end up getting a fair whack for him!

Welcome back. You haven’t missed out on too much since 2008 to be fair, just the 5 seasons in the Prem, 1 FA Cup semi final, and an FA Cup Final which we’ll quickly gloss over :D

I'm a bit torn on this - I'd rather both sides focused on the league, especially with Ipswich now out.

Plus the 10000+ arguments, the return of the Politics forum, a forum backend rebuild, new member big bad bear and an insanely popular thread about a midday T.V show. :)

FFS would rather we had just lost. Now a pointless replay, with the prize a pumping from Liverpool.

    Oh well.
As Tom says not overly keen on a visit to the Klipperty museum for amusing teeth.
Minutes for Dennis and Ken I suppose.
As ever pity we didn't score more in the first half.

Disappointing they equalised but it had been coming. We were very bright in the first half but faded badly.

Given that the winner has to get spanked at Anfield it feels like a waste of time. Can we just forfeit the pointless replay?

That was easily the best 90 minutes performance we've put in this Season. Desperately unlucky not to have won that with some huge chances not taken and each player to a man worked their bollox off. Only downside is Koné injury.

The worst possible result. Now a pointless extra game for both teams all for the right to get battered by Liverpool.

Honestly screw this competition. How many times do I have to point it out? One way or another it's just a waste of energy and then we eventually draw one of the top clubs.

To top it all off - Kone didn't look right all game and was our most lethargic player; maybe he still played because we have no one else in midfield but regardless he unsurprisingly ends up injured and now our threadbare midfield could well be missing its best current player for the league.

As an aside, Dennis indeed looks short of match fitness. Sema as well, unsurprisingly.

Southampton started with more of their first choice players missing and it showed; we probably should have been 2 ahead before they made all those subs to change the game.

Worst result we could've got. All over them in the first half, but probably lucky to have only conceded 1 because it was the complete opposite 2nd half. Send out the kids and squad players for the replay. Overall a solid performance which is nice, if we can play like that for the rest of the season that would be nice.

Frustrating , did so well for so long. Their substitutes made the difference

on the whole was quite pleased with most of the team, when we broke , we broke at speed and had afinar few shots , unlucky with some (like the post shot from martins).

don’t normally rate Martins but thought he was putting a lot of effort in today and good goal, great flick from Bayo at the end , thought Chak and Kone did well , Asprilla battling well

Bachman and defence pretty good, always worry when we bring Porteous on

should have expected the goal as we don’t keep clean sheets

I'll be honest, a replay with a tie away to Liverpool is probably the worst case scenario, but whatever disappointment I felt at the equaliser was nothing compared to the feeling when we drew Liverpool in the first place. Encouraging performance I thought, against a team that would still be at the sharp end of the Championship table

Cannot really argue with result. A bit like the league game we dominated them for long periods, got an early goal but then could never get a killer second. Longer the game went on the more they grew into it and I think deserved to equalise due our lack of finishing/threat second half. There are more negatives to come out of that with a replay though. They are very good at home and it's another game for us to get through in another packed fixture list. Could of done without it, but it is what it is.

Martins goal had a touch of fortune about it, how Lumley dived over the ball was pretty funny it has to be said. Bayo really should of scored right at the end and we go into that second half 2-0 up we win that game. It's shame we couldn't hold on but Watford and 1-0 leads never end well and we know that. We did look very tried second half and the fact Southampton have a much bigger squad it was evident they could rest a lot of their first teamers and put a lot of youth out. I thought overall we didn't deserve to lose the game, but a replay back at their place which is bound to be shoved in a midweek slot when the squad probably could do with an extra day's rest is annoying.

VI has quite a task ahead, due our lack of numbers (and the possibility of losing Pollock as well very soon) we are going to have to field the same side for a while. But we knew that pre-season with so many going (rightly) in the summer. Not a game we needed to reply, but when you cannot finish a team off when your well on top, you do not deserve to win.

Don't expect to see Dennis in the squad on Wednesday. He does look a good month away from being fit.

As soon as the draw was made any fun left in the competition and this game disappeared. Play a youth team in the replay and be done with it.

We won’t though as there’s a lot of money in playing Liverpool on tv.

Uff such a pity. The fickle hand of fate eh. They did to us today what we did to them in the league match.

I thought there were many positives about today overall, including our first direct free-kick goal for 477 days!

Trying to defend a 1-0 lead though is always risky when you’ve not kept a clean sheet for 12 matches, or however long it’s been now. I can understand why we took that gamble as Saints are on a terrific run, but still.

We won’t be favourites now to win an unneeded replay and to have the pleasure of being a big part extra in the Klopp farewell tour but we aren’t out of it yet!

Well more people are echoing similar thoughts now than before the match, but some people have short memories.

But I remember we've had a fairly big discussion on the cups in the past and I'll repeat some of what I said then again here: maybe when you were young the domestic cup competitions mattered a bit more, and it seems to pain you having to adjust to them not mattering as much any more.

Clearly tried hard, but I was very surprised he played today considering Val said he was 2-3 weeks away from being fit. Suppose that a few more mins in the legs, can't be a bad thing
