Well deserved point; even feel a bit disappointed we didn’t get the win with the chances we had. Southampton weren’t great, they did the typical Russell Martin thing of keeping the ball for the sake of it without making a chance. Poor defending for their goal but thankfully they didn’t kick on from there in the slightest. Always satisfying to see a team time waste then concede a late goal!
Great ending . Delighted for Healey . Thought we did well generally although Southampton has more of the ball and showed some PL quality We had more chances though.
Highlight of the game that! His legs may have gone through injuries, but it don’t matter all that much as he can compensate that by lobbing a ball 50 yards!
I was surprised at how Southampton wanted to play. Just spoilers. Feigning injury, time wasting at every opportunity and a bit of thuggery on our lads too. Referee was probably the worst we’ve had this season. Was so weak, but to be fair to him, did add in the correct amount of minutes at the end. We deserved to win, based on good chances, but to pinch a goal that my nan could have saved right at the death was the kick in the teeth Southampton richly deserved.
If their goalie looks back at that he will be very disappointed, but we kept going and if Sema and Kone had been more composed with their shots we could have won that. Thought Southampton looked very good technically, and defended crosses well. Their right back was excellent. Bayo is such a better player than Rajovic. But as we know he just can’t score, but the assist for the equaliser; I doubt Rajovic would have won that header. Overall I think the team is evolving into something we can actually enjoy watching.
Mr Q’s half time £10,000 centre spot challenge – WTF?!! If you want proof of the utter contempt the club has for fans this is it. Three optimists are plucked from the relative comfort of the stands for their chance to win 10 grand. All they have to do is punt a ball from the penalty spot at one end of the pitch with such skill that it stops on the centre spot. Today two out of three don’t manage to get it in the centre circle – let alone stop it on the centre spot! Why not make the prize £10 million or £10 billion Mr Q? It’s virtually impossible so you might as well. Insulting That aside, an entertaining game and our point was well deserved. When did Southampton become such sh1ts? Lots of niggly stuff from them all game made them the most unpleasant bunch we’ve played so far this season. The ref, needless to say, was shocking and the linesman with the yellow flag didn’t make a single decision all afternoon – just waved his flag to indicate which way the ref had given throws, free kicks etc.
Got dragged to this game kicking and screaming, left the game in a happy place. Southampton are an absolute disgrace of a team, I was very surprised. Dirty doesn't even come close and time wasting as bad as I've seen. The ref was a complete and utter w***er, why are the short ones always so bad? He let them get away with it all, just a disgrace. It's been a very long time since I've felt so satisfied with a Watford goal. I didn't think I gave a sh*t anymore about this club until that went in, but then it could be because I dispised Southampton so much after watching 94 minutes of their antics. We matched them in every department and should have had 3 points One more thing, Semas one on one with the keeper, he sh*t his pants. King my ar5e.
Fully expected to be in a relegation battle this year and not a potential play off chase fully expected to hate every player like I have every other season, not actually warm to the squad fully expected a new manager in by Xmas, now it looks like he may be here for a while never expected to be enjoying games again
I was going to like this post until I saw your disrespectful comment about King Ken. Shame on you sir, shame.
Another performance to be proud of, probably deserved all three if Sema or Kone finished pretty presentable chances. Thought lots were good but Lewis was excellent. How bloody refreshing this team is proving to be right now, going to The Vic is fun again!!!
My mate noticed something interesting today, in injury time nobody had left early. That's very unusual.
Thought we were excellent today. Watford are becoming a fun team to support again, which is all you can ask for really. Southampton looked a very good team (aside from the shithousing) and have a better team on paper than some PL sides and we probably would have won that if we were clinical. My favourite thing about that was how angry our players were with the Saints team & how we didn’t pass the ball back after their player pretended to be injured. Last year we’d have given up and lost that 3-0. My only criticism is that I think Bayo should have started that game, but it worked out in the end.
if one of the 4 chasing Armstrong took one for the team they prob wouldn't of scored and we win the game ,but an excellent performance all round ,full of real grit and determination and loved the fact all there dark tactics came and bit them on the backside ,quality
Good point today, been out so just catching up on things and seems we did alright. Not in a bad spot now to be honest, so fair play to them. Also, it's amazing how every time we beat or draw with a team the opposition manager rarely praises us as opposition, they are always 'unlucky' or 'hard done by' or 'should have won'. Amusing sour grapes at times, I guess it's even more unfashionable not taking 3 points off us now we are full blown Championship mid-table fodder again.
Very solid performance and we certainly didn't deserve to lose, yes Southampton had more possession but they didn't really do a great deal with it, I felt their goal could have been avoided had Andrews got back to stop the cross coming in in the first place. We really should have been 2 up by half time and not being clinical in front of goal has cost us a fair few points this season. Having said that I like the attitude of this team and the manager more and more recently. I thought we would desperately miss Livermore today but I felt Sierralta stepped up just fine although his distribution was off. A little snippet from SaintsWeb match thread, I'm not sure what this clown was watching but they didn't try to bury the game, the falling over antics and the slow substitutes shows they were happy with 1. As for kicked off the park, their first yellow card was worse than the challenge Andrews got sent off for at Sunderland, at least Andrews made an attempt at the ball, that was an assault. They were by far the dirtiest team that have come to Vicarage Road this season by a long stretch. https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/topic/60536-watford-1-1-saints-match-thread/page/9
Good performance against a decent team that excel at the dark arts . Probably just as well Livermore had a knock and couldn't play . It could have been very messy !. This team/squad is starting to take shape nicely and the lightweights appear to have been marginalized by VI .
Yes, they were masters of the dark arts. That’s probably the worst team for that I’ve seen since the Eddie Howe Bournemouth days. Which is why it’s so satisfying to score against a side like that in the added on time they were desperately trying to waste. Probably that nonsense added on for Stuart Armstrong’s refusal to walk off the pitch in a timely manner, is the added on time we scored from.
was strange to see us use the direct tactic of throw it into the box and try and score, a few weeks ago we would have thrown it back into our own half and then tried to run it in to the goal, sometimes direct is best
I've only seen the highlights, but this is great. We've been a soft touch for what seems like forever and it's so nice to have some grit and fighting spirit where we don't simply shrug and capitulate.
I think most of the points I'd have made have been said already. Ref was crud. Diamond spot on about the little man thing. He set the tone after about 15 mins when he gave a pathetic freekick to them for a nothing challenge from Porteous in the middle of the pitch. He basically lost control from there and both teams sensed it. Such a stark contrast with the ref we had at Hull who didn't give any of the low level stuff as fouls and surprise surprise the sky didn't fall down. That aside from a low bar that was one of the most enjoyable games I've seen at the Vic in the past 3 seasons. I found the first half absorbing - both teams trying and only just failing to get things to click, but going at it all the same. We were good value for the draw and as others have said we could have won it on another day if we'd been more clinical.
