A few tweets saying Racing in the Argentinian league are trying to sign Pussetto. https://twitter.com/sehablaasi/status/1686497180381483008
Contract up next summer, need to get what we can for this wet lettuce and get his wages off our books. Just looked at their transfers and they don't seem to spend a lot, guessing we'll ship him off for £1-2m if he does go there.
More proof that if you give a club a lot of money to spend , more often than not they waste it whereas a club on the breadline is usually more sensible and finds a few bargains. Compare the Vialli season with the Lewington one (where one summer we were only allowed one signing and we used it prudently), or how much we’ve wasted as a PL club. Not quite £7 million wasted as he did play a bit and we got decent loan fees too, but a totally nonsensical transfer that sums up our wastefulness during our PL stay.
Oh yes, those 67 minutes of total game time were vital to us. That's over £700k per minute. The clearance off the line against Spurs makes it all worthwhile.
Loan fees have been pretty immaterial in the accounts? Thought that notion had been put to bed apart from on twitter.
There were lots of sliding door moments that season. Had Mapps not scored that crazy OG at Brighton, had the EPL been honest and not fudged the GLT goal Villa conceded at Sheff U or disallowed a perfectly good goal Palace scored against Villa, or had Arteta not fielded a weakened side against Villa in the week so he could go full strength to ensure he sends us down.....it could have been so different.
I can't remember the exact formula (I think if you add up how much each team receives financially for their league position from the PL and divide it by the total amount of goals scored in the league) then a single goal in the PL works out at £2.5m! Didn't work for him in England at all, was always semi decent in Serie A though. Surprised we've not (as far as we know anyway) tried to shift him on a permanent before now though. I strongly believe the view that there no well run football clubs. The clubs that usually fit the description of "well run" still make plenty of mistakes and stupid decisions, just far less than everyone else.
I think when I wrote ‘a totally nonsensical transfer’, I might have given a clue to my thoughts on it! And they’re no different from others on this thread.
Maybe I'm missing your point, but Pussetto cleared a shot off the line, he didn't score any goals. So that £2.5m would have gone to Spurs not us, in the formulaic calculation. He did deny Spurs £2.5m if that's what you meant??
@reids. Totally agree. By the sheer nature of what it is, a football club can hardly ever be run well, compared to other businesses. It’s like that old gag isn’t it (which I’m going to get wrong now lol), the one about how do you make a million? Buy a football club for a billion.
Recouping £500k of our £7m outlay would be fantastic business considering he only has a year left on his contract
Lots of great business this summer. The Pussetto and Sarr fees and not forgetting the cancellation of the Gaspar contract, Ferreira wages off books and the continuation of the Fletcher loan goldmine! Great work from the custodians.
In fairness anyone who deprives Spurs of anything is a winner in the books of all true Watford fans #gooners4eva
People are saying Sarr was worth it because he helped get us back to where we already were, I can imagine people saying that Pussetto was worth it just because of that one clearance off the line...
He's a crap player and was a mistake to bring in, but it's still simply extraordinary that all these years on some people on here still talk about transfer fees paid between the Pozzo clubs as if they're reflective of anything much. Is it ignorance? Is it the memory of a goldfish? Is it simply only using them as another imaginary stick to beat the club with but only when it's convenient to suit your agenda? £7mil ..... to Udinese. The transfer fee means as much as the £16mil Udinese have put "down the drain" for Kamara. Any "drain" to Udinese will be connected in a circular motion by another one returning from Udinese to here. With nothing really lost between the clubs, just them circulating the mess between each other. We didn't even really spend the money, let alone waste it.
That’s a very over simplified calculation though, how many goals are scored when a team loses 2-1 or 3-1 though, a lot of goals in games would be utterly meaningless and not worth anything, especially for example our last relegation season, when any goals scored in 23 of 36 of our games earned us zero points and zero pounds.
Did I read we are selling him for a packet of Nachos ? Irrespective of the "fee" between Pozzo clubs, he was an utterly pointless signing.
And how damaging. Pearson had everything going the right way. 2 modest value added additions (maybe replace Masina and upgrade Cathcart/Dawson who were to have shockers v Everton and Arsenal) might have saved Pozzo hundreds of millions.
That's the worst thing about it all. It was entirely ******* preventable, not with hindsight but we were all saying it at the time too.
All things considered, surely one of the most pointless and baffling winter window signings ever. Couldn’t have been further away from what the team needed in what was very precarious position, a position we’d not been in during any previous PL winter window.
Wow! Overreaction much? We were a PL team when we signed Pussetto and I don't recall many complaining at the time. Now we're in a very different position, in hindsight it looks a poor investment. If memory serves, he's been on loan a few times, so we must have recouped some loan fees.
Loan fees. I really wish people would check the accounts and realise how minuscule (or often zero) these are when not dealing with a good player. Who on earth is going to pay a loan fee for Pussetto?? We would be lucky to get his wage covered.
Hahahaha. The hilarious "loan fees" nonsense is back. Excellent. Anything for some to desperately defend this shambles of a club.
Amazing that some fans still think Gino has discovered and is exploiting some amazing loophole. Like a totally potless team like Wigan would pay a huge loan fee for a Player like Fletcher who we signed for zero, when they could probably barely cover his wages (if they even did that).
They couldn’t pay their own staff and players let alone others ! Infact they probably owe him money .
We were barely a premier league team when he signed and we subsequently got relegated, he was nothing more than an accounting manoeuvre at a time when we desperately needed help to stay up.
