I find her a reasonable host once her toe-curling introduction to the show is over.

Family fortunes reminds me of the classic answers:

NO ! I watch none of these. I've never understood why anyone would watch Bargain Hunt, yet we have a whole thread dedicated to it. One of the many bizarre things about this Forum.

You're obviously with the wrong man :).

Every mannerism of hers grates on me. She's insufferable. Fortunately she's often outshone by her weirdo contestants.

Mark this, if she ever asked me to give a rendition of one of the songs in the clues whilst she waves her sausage forearms conductor style, I will refuse. I don't care if they disqualify us. It’s not funny or in any way entertaining.

Just googled it. The show moved from Thames to LWT and Thames refused to hand over the rights to the name.

I like her. And I've read that she's not just a frontperson, she's a producer who does create some of the questions.

It still goes on the Beeb and C4 were very pissed-off when media darling Charlie Brooker took 'his' toys (-wipe, Cunk and 'Black Mirror') elsewhere.

I don't know. They've had plenty of beauties with brains on there. I'm just sad polymath Jeremy Paxman is obviously suffering from Parkinson's. And is stepping down for some canute.

Lack of knowledge of the higher arts is a bit worrisome among some of these teams.

Probably not unlike the selection process in the film "Starter for 10". :D

When I was working at Birkbeck College in 1996, it's UC team (including a Post-Grad in the Crystallography Dept I was resident at the time) posted a record low score of 40 (questions were subsequently asked in the Commons about the standard of Higher Education after this shock) as they got slaughtered by the University of Manchester team who scored 360, or more accurately, mullered by Stephen Pearson of Manchester , the human super-computer, who seemed to answered an inordinate number of questions before Paxo had finished reading them out. He then became organiser of the subsequent UOM UC teams. I remember him being on OC where he was good on the music questions.

"In the first three series, clues in Rounds 1 and 2 and the connecting walls in Round 3 were identified by Greek letters. In series 4 Coren Mitchell announced that this idea had been dropped, ostensibly due to viewer complaints that it was too pretentious. Henceforth Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs (two reeds, lion, twisted flax, horned viper, water, and the eye of Horus) would be used instead. The show's opening sequence displayed Greek letters in the first episode of Series 4, but these were replaced with the hieroglyphs in subsequent episodes."

Oh come on Moog, surely you've eaten Bourbon biscuits with Arnold Schwarzenegger on a camping holiday or taken a massive dump in the British Museum while dancing the Gay Gordons for charity.

Then there's the one from 'Pointless' where the category was 'people with names beginning with J'. One clue was 'shot in Dallas in 1963.' The desperate contestant furrowed her brow, then beamed a smile of relief as she proferred the answer 'JR Ewing'. Alexander Armstrong was incapacitated with laughter for almost a minute as the contestant looked on perplexed.

It's a bit worrying when they announce their degree. I'm studying for a masters in the biological sciences. Twenty minutes later a question on the Cori cycle rears it's ugly head and they have not got the foggiest. Meanwhile their colleagues turn their earnest gaze in their direction expecting they will know the answer.

I love it when Paxman rolled his eyes sometimes at the answers and answered himself. I suppose he has the answers in front of him as well but he is very, very well read and probably knows most of them anyway especially with regards to history and art. Former alumnus of Kings College London. Black Gold is an excellent history of coal mining in Britain and shows the exploitation angle very well. And his series The Victorians & The British Empire is a great watch too.

He would make a great football manager. Takes no BS from nobody.

Not so sure with Paxman. He dismisses any popular culture questions as beneath him, and makes sure he has a sarcy dig at anyone who gets a question wrong to which he knew the answer (rather than because he has it front of him).
Not keen on Amol Rajan mind.
