Friend who told me about the Kone signing last week also told me that club in contract phase talks with Will Hughes about a loan return in Jan. Was before the Kone deal though so could have changed
I thought the same, but just repeating what I was told by a pretty reliable source! Only thing I can imagine is he’s guaranteed regular football in a championship team chasing promotion, better than sitting on the bench/reserves at palace! As I say kone Deal may be instead of but thought I’d mention it anyway
I thought Will loved the Club, but just wanted to get away from having a camera shoved in his face every 5 minutes..
Kone doesn't seem an immediate upgrade on what we have right now, just a rotation option. If the move to Udinese later is true then we could just be used to help him acclimatise a bit more to Europe and European football before the summer, rather than being an immediate first team regular. If we're serious about promotion then getting this done to play alongside Choudhury would be a no-brainer.
Kone would be expensive at 7 million though to then not to be ready to play ? As for Hughes he probably liked the club . Just not the owners or as some suggested the manager at the time .
If it's true that he couldn't wait to see the back of our regime, but he's content to come back with a slightly different set-up now at the club, I'd take Hughes back in a heartbeat, the bloke is quality at Championship level, and for all of Kone's apparent ability, he doesn't seem like a Hughes or a Louza type which we do need
Why would he come back here after the way Gino treated him after he had the nerve to exercise his right not to sign a new contract? Would be happy if he did come back but cant see why he would want to.
I don’t think it was Pozzo who did this. But the point does remain for who was responsible. And perhaps Pozzo should have stepped in to resolve it all.
If he does come to us it will have a lot to do with not moving house and not losing pay. There are limited options for him if he has those aims and we are one of them.
He's exactly what we need and in hindsight exactly what we needed last season. A bit of calm on the ball that Kayembe and Choudhury just can't provide.
I heard this rumour at the beginning of November. No supporting evidence. As a fish trip I put out a suggestion we take Docoure in on loan to see if anyone fired back with the “no need we are getting Hughes in” But no one bit. Which I took to mean no one else had heard a rumour that Hughes was on the radar for a return. Maybe this is just a Gosling long term absence inspired reaction, rather than longer term plan. Happy if it happens as I think he would do ok back here in The Championship, despite treading water at Selhurst Park.
Probably because he's realised he is not as good as he thought and been found out at Palace. Overated, but could do a job for us in the Championship.
Up to the maximum 5 loans with the Martins signing, shame as I would definitely take him back on loan.
There are six or seven other teams that could attract him in the champo though, why would he want to after Gino treated him like **** just for not wanting to sign a new contract?
Sure he's a nice fella, but maybe it's time to accept you're just stealing a living it you can't stay fit for more than 90 minutes
I a alla b Maybe Hughes just wanted to leave because he was sick of Foster constantly sticking his GoPro in his face? And now the muppet has left.
Something you’ve heard? We better be replacing him. Think a high risk high reward young CB who could make the step up to the PL next season or after is the last recruitment priority. Currently we have no PL level CBs.
There is nothing to replace? The guy is never fit to play. It’s burning money. Surprised we can wiggle out of the awful decision to sign him to be honest!
Well yes. But I think we still need a player in the mould of whatever he was meant to be. Cathcart and WTE are passable but not getting any better and are clearly not PL level and never will be (again). We need to sign a young CB who could be PL level in the next 18 months. We won’t, of course
Ah - just realised that if we replace Hause with Hughes, we still won't have a loan spot for a RB - which is as much of a problem as our CM,especially with Gosling now out injured. So I wonder if that'll be an area we plan on spending some funds.
Would be very surprised if there's not a queue of top level clubs lining up for Hughes' signature if he's available. After all, I was lambasted for calling him an average PL midfielder when he left.
Gosling getting injured is, inexplicably, a bit of a blow, but with two actual, able-bodied RBs, no chance that's our priority now. Think 'passable' is a pretty accurate description of the pair of them tbf, nothing more, nothing less, but if it meant we could get Hughes back, I'd definitely take our chances with Ngakia and Gaspar
