Especially as Wycombe play at Boro, whose manager is a well-known Blades fan and Wednesday hater, lol.

I get what you're saying, but we 'improved the defence' in the division below, against an astonishingly different set of opposition attacking lineups, with two of that improved defence being players who were relegated last season with at least some obvious culpability and a goalkeeper currently worse than the one we were relegated with.

On top of that, Sierralta is a monster and hopefully should make the step up with ease, but WTE is at best no improvement on our other crop, and at worse a suicide-machine for gifting Prem teams free goals. Without some investment, there is no way we can say our defence is stronger than it was last time we were in the Prem overall, despite the promise of El Gaucho (who as amazing as he has been, we should also remember is only 23 and has never played in the top flight before - he may take some time to further adjust).

We are only 4 points ahead of Brentford.christ almighty we must win on Sunday or the gap will be down to 1 point. Then it really will be squeaky bum time.

The best thing about getting promoted this season is that next season Deeney will get us relegated to the championship rather than league one. Happy days!!

Pretty sure we can sign players. Just can’t file the paperwork or be announced until July 1st. Could be wrong, as the rules/laws get changed. At some point this was true though. Don’t know if Brexit has changed it. @UEA_Hornet is normally up to date with this stuff.

As far as the team is concerned, we went down last year because our forwards weren't good enough (which isn't to say there weren't compounding issues, like the baffling reappointment of QSF). This put additional pressure on the defence; if your forward line isn't a threat, the ball just comes right back at you and you're under pressure again.

While our back line last year certainly wasn't brilliant and would not have hurt to upgrade it, it was good enough to survive. Our record was comparable to most bottom half teams that did stay up, and better than some. A competent strike force and we probably would have avoided coming down; in fact, I suspect we could well have managed it if Deulofeu hadn't have been injured (or if Deeney had been the player he was in our original promotion season).

The forward issue is been put on stark display this season after we came down and our defence markedly improved but our focal forwards have still been largely poor. Pedro and Sarr are both good enough, but neither of them is an out and out goalscorer, and Pedro is still very young and needs time to grow into himself more.

What's kind of funny is that, now all the pressure is off and the teams who won automatic have won automatic, the Bees are in the best form in the division...

They really are bottlers. 20+ games unbeaten, bit of pressure, can't buy a win, autos gone, best form in the league.

Imagine, despite said form, they must be quivering slightly at thoughts of the playoffs...

I have nothing against it, and literally support the concept/am impressed by how much Rooney moved the goalposts on it publicly and, to some extent, literally changed attitudes towards having it done when he went out and publicly acknowledged/spoke openly about it, but realistically all those hair transplants he had were not at all worth it, were they, sadly.

Totally grey by 35 and still incredibly thin to the point it cannot be said to look any better (and indeed probably looks worse) than if he'd just shaved his head, as the end result of several very expensive surgeries.

I was just thinking exactly that and how thin his hair is now, despite having had a hair transplant.

I think the reality is for blokes like him who go aggressively bald in their twenties, their hair follicles are obviously so sensitive to DHT that it’s ultimately pointless because the new hair will just end up the same.

If you’re in your thirties/forties and thinning a bit (I think Jimmy Carr must’ve had one recently?) then it will last a good long while and probably be a lot more worthwhile.

FYI I was always paranoid about going bald as my dad is as bald as a coot and was thinning from a pretty young age, so did a lot of research into how it all works, but thankfully I’ve managed to keep most of it.

Funnily enough I'm the exact opposite, my Dad has a full luxurious mane in his 60s, but I've done the exact same - it fascinates me. Whilst I applaud his 'bravery' in doing it, he did also kick off this footballers having transplants as a cosmetic thing in their 20s, and as you say, traditionally they don't like doing them until post-30 so that they can see the real pattern of hair loss and how it will hold up over the years. Rooney had his done at 25 if I'm not mistaken, and, as you said, there's really only so much you can do. He always had thin hair anyway, and so they were just harvesting thin hair that wouldn't produce a high number of grafts in one procedure, hence his multiple procedures. In the end, it's harsh to say but for him, it was never really a legitimate option.

I keep a list of every footballer who has had one, as well as potential new recruits, and for a real result you can't look much further than Andros Townsend. Antonio Conte is the absolute king in the footballing world, but there are strong rumours it is actually a hair replacement system/wig, rather than a transplant, given just how incredibly savage his hair loss was by the time he recovered it...

You are very right about Jimmy Carr, by the way - he was also open about it, which is fairly de rigeur by this point; in part thanks to Rooney, I honestly believe. He is a pretty perfect candidate.

Funnily enough in this televised game another perfect example of a pointless transplant in Barry Bannan - in this weather especially, it looks insane!

Probably should have been given offside too.

Wouldn't bet on anything the way that game is going with 20 mins still to play!

    Rotherham safe as things stand.

Yep, rotherham wasted enough chances today to win 2 or 3 games of football. Personally I would prefer for weds to get a winner, although i fear for derby if relegated.

Play offs set up perfectly. Brentford finished 10 points above Bournemouth, yet they’ll bitch about parachute payments when they inevitably lose to them.

Wycombe 3rd bottom as it stands as well, kind of wishing the beast could’ve managed to hit a barn door against us now.

Brentford have a bit of momentum behind them now, Muff have lost 2 of their last 3, including one at home to Brentford who had 10 men.

Toney has his shooting boots back.

Just hope Barnsley win it overall.

Agree, but at the same time I don’t think we can draw too much from the results we’ve seen since teams have secured their objectives. I think the form will go out of the window now, good or bad.

Speaking of Bournemouth, who remembers Sheff Weds fans singing their name after scoring a late equaliser against us to deny us the title?

    Enjoy Cheltenham away lads :D
