Considering they are now only 1 behind our GD, then in light of the amount of points they have to make up then chances are their GD would be better than ours if the terrible happened and they caught up with us.

If it comes down to goal difference, they have the edge because we'd have to lose games and they'd have to win tbf

Today just shows how Brentford and even Swansea are quite good and just how badly they have messed things up in recent weeks.

    Our consistency has been amazing.

Made worse by the fact this line of thinking is being pushed by someone called The Undeniable Truth which is making me think he's some sort of forum Cassandra and the rest of us won't wake up until it's too late and we're in the play offs.

If we lose to Brentford we would only need to lose one game more than them over the rest. Not a dramatic change of form.

“It doesn’t require a big change in form, but I f we suddenly lose a load of games and Brentford and Swansea win a load and there’s a huge swing in points then we won’t go up”.

Makes sense. I get it now.

They play Rotherham at home the Tuesday before our visit to theirs, a game they should win as Rotherham have a heavy schedule, but still, it's a game that I'm sure they'd rather have not played just before what could be their biggest game of the season

We don't have to lose a load. Who said anything about Swansea ?

That is true, but they do have to win those games, and one of them is against Bournemouth

Yes it is? That’s a huge change in form. It’s requiring us to lose at least 2 of our final 5 and for Brentford to go from the form they’ve been in to suddenly winning almost all of their games?

The levels of bedwetting are ridiculous we are 9 and 10 points clear okay the others have a game in hand and won today but they also did not win in their previous four games so who is to say that they will even win that. We have just beaten a promotion rival and have won 10 of our last 12.

It is. It either requires us to inexplicably start losing and drawing or Brentford to start winning every week.

Top 6 all winning. We cannot f**k it up now
Good job we won last night.
All the remaining games are pressure games now.

Ok if you expect Brentford to keep losing even after today then yes it would come as a bit of shock to you. Presume you were stunned that S & B both won today ?
We have a much tougher run in than the last dozen games. We all knew that. It's great we've built this lead, let's hope it's enough.

You’d honestly think we were only 4 or 5 clear, not 9.

Of course if we dramatically go off the boil and fail to pick up many points as Brentford and/or Swansea go on a near perfect run then we won’t go up, but it’s not likely, is it?

We need to 10 points from a possible 15 to be completely uncatchable and that’s assuming Brentford relentlessly get 18 from 18.

We're talking about 5 games. If you think its impossible that we will lose to Brentford and drop 3 more points over the other games, then great.
I think it's unlikely, but certainly is possible.

weve lost one in 14. That’s Brentford’s first win in 6. Us NOT winning against Luton and Millwall and getting at least a draw vs either Brentford or Swansea will be a dramatic change of form. If there is no dramatic change of form and that happens then Brentford will have to win 5 and draw one of their remaining 6. That will then be a a dramatic change of form

The above is possible but hoping you can see what many are saying. It will need a dramatic change of form

I think if we lose to Brentford and Norwich we can still be ok by winning the other 3 games unless Brentford win all their games.

If that happens then credit to them.

  23. NathWFC

Er, no, I just don’t expect them to suddenly win almost every game they play and for us to suddenly go completely off the boil. Of course they’re both still going to win games between now and the end of the season.

Not that home and away really makes much difference this season.

They don't have to win every game ? Just beat us, and do 3 points better than us over the rest.

But it’s not just about us losing to Brentford and dropping 3 points outside of that, it still requires Brentford to win multiple other games whilst we fail to win multiple other games.

Which, again, requires a huge swing in overall form and results for both sides.

Just need to beat Luton and Millwall and we are on 88 points, pretty much over the line even if we shockingly don't pick up any points in the other 3 games

Not sure why people assume we won't take points off Norwich, Swansea or Brentford anyway, we beat the former most times we play them and we have been comfortably better than the latter 2 since Xisco came in

TBF on today's form they'll beat Millwall and Cardiff but Bournemouth will be tough.

It seems if these teams score first they go on to win.

Could this be like when we won 6-0 v Bristol City for Brentford and Swansea.

Of course they will probably wish they weren't playing us in what will probably be a must win for Brentford whereas we might get away with a draw.

We should get the remaining points we need without worrying about what other teams do.

But I must admit to being a bit disappointed by the manner of the Swansea and Brentford wins. I suspect it will do for them what the 6-0 Bristol win did for us.

Hopefully this will keep our players focused and determined to keep winning because we can't afford to let up now.

Brentford just need to beat us and drop 3 points less than us over the other games.
    It's simple really.
You're getting yourself confused. I'm not saying that B will beat us to 2nd spot. I'm saying it's unlikely but possible.
You're trying to convince yourself it's 100% impossible because our relative runs over the last 10 games or so must continue for the next 5/6 games. Yet B & S won convincingly today

What would happen if there was a dramatic change in form though? My head hurts from all the speculating so I’m off for a nap and will check the table again after L*ton to see if it’s changed at all - I think if we win more games then that would put us on a better position than if we lose them but it would also depend entirely on what other do around us so......... nap, it’s time for a nap

To be fair Brentford can only get to 91 points even if they win all of their games and if they were to lose to Bournemouth away which is very possible considering Bournemouth's current form and that they will need a result then they can only get to 88 points. We are already on 82.
