I have no doubts that whatever good, happy, positive mood we wake up in on Saturday, by the end of the day it will have been ruined by another negative showing from Ivic and his odious mentality.
Show me 5 people or comments where anyone said this. I’ll accept 3 even. That’s far less than ‘many’ as you claim so shouldn’t be hard. I mean, you wouldn’t want people to think you’re spreading utter nonsense would you? Mind you, you’ll have a hard job still given you think Brentford were awarded a ‘fortunate’ penalty for a clear handball, or that us drawing at home against 10 men was the ‘desired result’. By all means be positive. But that’s some straight-up ‘cloud cookoo-land’ drivel right there.
Huddersfield 9-0 Watford Huddersfield are basically the Barcelona of the Championship and are now firmly in control of HMS PTL, all Watford clappers have been rounded up and moved to the brig. Best team we'll ever play in the Championship. Only reason they're 14th is because they've been robbed by dodgy refereeing decisions, plagued by injuries/suspensions, a Government conspiracy, alien invasion and food poisoning, honest.
I am not going to go back and look at the posts regarding this but feel free to do it.You know they exist so don't go all Guy Pearce on me. However 29 people voted in the poll that we would get a a good beating so that would answer your question. So the only defence the Ivic haters have for not getting thrashed by Brentford is they only had 10 men. Well we had a legitimate goal disallowed which would have won the game but let's not count that as it doesn't fit your narrative. I have no doubt that when we beat Huddersfield this forum will be populated by the dullards who have nothing better to do than get upset because their team won again.
Five penalties this season: three fouls on Sarr, one handball from Sarr's cross and a foul on Perica. Got eight last season apparently, Deeney scored five from six, Deulofeu and Pereyra one each.
Then find them? I’m not the one making claims and alleging ‘many’ people have said things and then not backing it up when asked? Its because it’s a lie and you know it. If I’m wrong, prove it. 29 people voted that we’d lose by more than 1 goal and that we should have signed Toney...hardly equates to your original comments does it? You did provide speech-marks after all. Who said it? I don’t have a ‘narrative’. We did have a legitimate goal chalked off. I mentioned that was a disgrace in my post immediately after the whistle. I’d have a pretty poor narrative to shoot myself down in such a way. I’ve also said in many posts this week that I don’t think Ivic is a bad manager, I just think he’s unsuited to the goals the club needs to achieve. I don’t ‘hate’ him. I just think it’s ridiculous when you make claims about ‘many’ posters saying things that didn’t happen. Falls into the same category as those who think others are ‘demanding we win every game 5-0’ or play ‘free-flowing football for 90 mins every week’. Didn’t happen, and is disingenuous clap-trap. Can you explain why you think their penalty was fortunate? Or why you think us drawing at home with 10 men after being 1-0 up was the 'desired' result? Or was that more nonsense?
Their fans weren't particularly happy with the performance last night and are saying their squad is completely threadbare and looks exhausted. Our extra day's rest might be a factor in our favour here but need to keep the tempo high (lol!). This is a must win, would get us some momentum on the road and set us up nicely for the Norwich game with a full week to prepare and Hughes hopefully back.
This game is a very slippery banana skin for us IMO, as their home form is good and our away form is, shall we say, not good. Although I obviously want a win from this game, I would not be too unhappy just to avoid defeat by getting a draw.
MaL is clearly bringing some levity to lift the dire pessimism on here. Good for him. It’s only some of the tongue in cheek, self deprecating humour on here that keeps me coming back, it certainly ain’t the Ivic brand of expansive attacking football..
I keep seeing this about Huddersfields home form, so I was surprised to see that they are around mid table in the home form table when I checked as I was expecting them to be at the top. In all fairness any game away is a banana skin for us the way we have been playing though.
On the penalty front, and hopefully not tempting fate, but we’ve now scored from our last 9 spot-kicks in league and cup. You could actually argue it’s 13, as we scored one pre-season too and all three in the league cup penalty shoot-out. The last one we missed was v Spurs in the 0-0 draw almost a year ago. Had we netted it, it could have provoked Spurs into being more attacking and pushing for the equaliser so it’s not totally right to say it cost us the two points that would have kept us up, but you can’t help thinking that.
Sooner or later Deeney is going to have to change it up. You'd think that he'd be able to roll it into the corner next penalty as the keeper stays rooted to the spot. The Brentford keeper dancing on the line was clearly trying to put him off and it looked like it worked, was a terrible penalty along the floor and he was pretty lucky with it, hence why I think Deeney gave him a load of verbals as he ran past.
I'm old enough to remember Ray Stewart at West Ham, who smashed every penalty he took as hard as he could. Over 12 years (1979- 91) he scored from 78 of them, missing 5 but he scored from the rebound after two of those.
His technique has evolved to the point where he just smashes it as hard as he can now though, the keepers all know where it’s going but they can’t do much about it. He used to knock it slightly off centre but not as hard and hope the keeper dived, he can’t do that now as they’ll easily save it. I can’t see him changing it now, sooner or later he’ll hit the keeper or sky it over though, but it will still get him a decent scoring ratio as far as penalties go. This isn’t it a criticism by the way, merely an observation, but his technique reminds me of the toe poke. Sometimes a toe poke/punt would be appropriate and make scoring a goal easier in certain circumstances, but it’s kind of frowned up as a technique so you very rarely see it. The way Troy now smashes penalties, any player could do that (and sometimes they do) and probably score more often than not, but I think with penalties it’s kind of expected that you try and place it on one of the corners. It’s kind of like slightly cheating as far as technique is concerned.
Quina out for 6-8 weeks Hughes still unavailable Joao Pedro ‘50/50’ Capoue fit to start Glenn Murray left out because there are 3 or 4 players in better condition ahead of him. All courtesy of Ivic via Leventhal today.
You KNOW that many people on here stated Brentford would give us a good beating and Ivic would be found out. If you deny this then you have a convenient memory. I'd also say that 29 people voting for more than a 1 goal Brentford win at Watford would have been them giving us a beating. The ONLY goal of the club this season is to achieve promotion.Ivic has to do this with an unbalanced squad, one where several players were not available for multiple games because the club wanted to sell them.Obviously the club did not give him all he asked for when he joined and it'll be interesting to see if they do in January(doubt they will unless we sell sell sell.)He also has had to manage a squad with multiple covid infections, several of them acting like prize asses and simply not caring and our pivotal midfielder being unavailable for virtually all the games.Chuck in the fact he has had no left back available so I think he has done very well.We could have lost all chance of automatic promotion by now if things had gone as poorly as it appears some on here hoped but he has made us very difficult to beat and gave us a chance of getting something from every single game. What more do you want from a coach coming into a relegated team with no money and zero confidence? A home draw with Brentford was a decent(not sure where desired come from) result.Of course it would have been better to win but a home draw isn't disastrous and shouldn't send many fans into meltdown. The penalty for them was fortunate. If they hadn't got it they wouldn't have scored
I wasn't gonna bite. i Mean, without the penalty and the red card we certainly wouldn't have scored either. They hit the post for a start.
Crikey. Must’ve been hard to come up for breath in between all those excuses. Yet, not one example as yet of anyone say we would “get a damn good thrashing” despite you claiming ‘many’ said it. I have zero issue with your positivity - but you’re just spouting lies about those who hold different views. You have no idea where the term ‘desired’ result came from? Read your original post. It was you who said it. I’m not even going to dignify the comment re. their penalty with a reply, given we got a penalty. It’s beyond ridiculous.
You seem to have had a sense of humour bypass along with your memory loss. Go and check out all the pages on the Brentford game page and you will see multiple comments regarding a good beating etc. If,at least,a two goal victory away to a team above you in the league isn't classified as a good beating I don't know what is.29 people voted for that so this alone would "prove" my point. I'm sure you aren't trying to be mischievous but the "desired result" comment clearly applies to the Huddersfield game but you seem to have conveniently twisted that. I like the way that facts are excuses.Ivic has never looked for any and has been consistent in what he says.I clearly stated I was happy with the points tally and the fact Ivic has given us a chance in EVERY game. Why would I need excuses if I am happy with the situation?
